i shoot benchrest and it does get expensive but i dont see how people dump 2 or 3 grand into a 22. im not disin 22 benchrest cuz it is fun i just wouldnt spend that kind of money on a 22
@scoutII345 The high mounts were a proof of concept - e.g. to prevent excessive contact with stock and also to deal with some drop issues. This kit was changed afterwards - "refactores" with another stock (a Bell & Carlson) for metallic silhouette shooting. All things considered the 10/22 Target (even with "tons" of Valquartsen upgrades, such as this kit has) is not a "serious" option for the extreme precision of competitive Benchrest shooting.
In fact neither the standard stock or the target model (laminated wood) stock area adequate for Benchrest (BR) shooting. I found, for both BR and Metallic Silhouette, the Bell & Carlson "Anschutz" model stock to be the more adequate in the non custom market.
This Ruger 10/22 Target is a free floater from factory. Barrel and stock are spaced - can be filled with a dollar bill. This model / setup will offer a precision at 50 meters (approx. 55 yards) that will be, on best, cloverleafs, not one hole.
So the 22 is pretty much clamped in?I learn new things every day!! Also...Your 22 must punch 1 hole with 5 shots at 50 yards ( Meters?) on that setup on a calm day.I cant even fit a dollar inbetween by barrel and stock ( not good) but she can cloverleaf 3 shots in and around 50. One thing i need to do is get rid of my aluminum scope rail and tig weld a mount on my barrel. Im not a tasco fan but i do have a world class fixed 4 x 44 on her and i love it! Im a fan of fixed power. Thanks friend !
The scope mounts seem a bit high. You should prob get a cheek piece for a positive cheek weld or lower mounts. I have the same one with lowboys on it. Its been a very good 22 for me the last 10 years or so with several trips out west varmiting.
On the sport of Benchrest 50 the use of high mounts offers a stance where the shooter has a "forced" less contact with the stock - and, thereby, less interference on (extreme) accuracy. This is not a setup for varmint but for BR50. Thereby it's a little "odd" ... but for a particular purpose .
Muzzle brake did not produce any negative effect. The moderation in recoil was low if any (since the original .22 LR recoil is already very low). I end up removing it.

@killer4life1000 The Volquartsen m/brake clamps to the barrel. No custom work is required.

It is best to have the scope as close to the bore as possible , those are really high mounts.

Is there a difference between a 22 bolt action a semi auto when accounting for accuracy and power?

Hey what do u prefer the stock 10/22 or the target model and dose the target model make much of a difference when shooting.?

@ansterds IMHO the Target model is worth the extra investment. Bull barrel has better performance over the standard one.

I know my 10/22 target wasn't a free floater from factory. Have they changed this in the newer model?

did the muzzle brake affect your accuracy or make the gun louder and did it reduce the recoil or didnt it ?
