Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. This clip has over 90,000 views now - hard to believe. It was just an impromptu piece I played picking up the guitar. I think this guitar has some magic in the wood. It never fails me...
I just want to let you know how difficult you are making my life. I thought I had it all figured out and was all set to get a Martin D28 and I had to find you damn video. Couldn't you have played out of tune or something to make it sound like crap. Now I have to rethink my decision.
Since last year, started the acoustic guitar. The sound of acoustic guitar, every day, is healed. I Do not use pick has played in five fingers and arpeggios. I prefer to play the bass quite mixed. Gibson J-45, Martin D-28 to hear their sounds, videos and met you. The sound of your guitar playing, head, ears and body was healed. To be met with a nice video, I thank you and your guitar.
@vickhily Thanks. Sorry can't tab, wouldn't know how to or where to start. This is an improvised jam thats all. Prob. couldnt play it again the same myself.
If you don't feel it don't play it - my motto. I saw a documentary on Elton John once, the camera crew was following him around his house and the guy drew attention to a massive piano in the room. He said to Elton John "looks great, do you play it often", John replied " Gosh no, I never work at home". That is exactly the opposite to how I see music. ( nothing bad against Elton John & all his fans - just making a point ! )
this Guitar was made by a man called 'Joe' at the Gibson Bozeman Plant in 2005. Joe did a good job I think. Yeah it's fairly opened up by now, I play it a lot and change the strings pretty often. Thanks for the comment
Our musical friend reckons that the Gibson J45 has a better pickup than most Taylor guitars. I really want to know before I indulge myself and make that dream purchase. Anybody got an opinion?
Great playing, I thought you were in my spare room lol, you wouldn't believe how much they look the same, wood, sloping ceiling. Anyway fantastic guitar, I have never played one of these but I have played a J200, are the necks the same fat round baseball bat shape or are they slimmer like the old Yamaha FG's, and Martins?
awhile back when i was asking my parents for a j-45 i showed them this vid to show them the sound. and now i have one! So i wanna say thanks and it is an amazing guitar lol. i got this song about halfway down haha
Just wondering if you can give me heads up on this jam? Where do I begin? Is it a song? Or are you just jamming? I'm just starting to learn scales etc. Are you playing areound certain scales (if so let me know) cheers.
just improvised jam with many things picked up over the years. To be honest I learn and play by ear, not scales etc. Try and pick up what you can by watching the vid. maybe
"Not so good at that sort of thing!" - uh, yeah sure. C'mon man what can it hurt to tell the guy what the guitar is tuned to? Your good though - damn good.
Nice tune- good playing. Great fun! Espeically the first couple of minutes! I have a j-45 as well. It's a great guitar for fingerpicking. The Martin's longer scale makes for a brighter sound I think. I prefer the warmth of the Gibson.
Dude, if you ever make a cd of your playing, I'll buy one. Awsome! That is the best sounding guitar I have ever heard, I have always been a Taylor fan and have owned 7 of them. Now I think you have converted me to Gibson. I see a J-45 in my future.
Thanks a lot. Yeah, Martins I could never warm to for some reason. J-45 has a nice warmth to it. This guitar is about three years old now and fairly broken in. I had to get the action adjusted and a new nut but after that - no problems !
Thats funny, just bought one this summer and had to take it in because of buzzing on E and B strings. Did an ajustment and started buzzing again. Turns out the nut was cut too deep on both strings and they gave me a new guitar. 2nd one sounds great except when i plug it in i can only hear the bass strings. must be a pickup adjustment in order but i cant bear to be without it long enough to take it back in. Sounds great Cowboy! Keep pickin
Hi thanks for the comment. Guy who adjusted mine told me Gibson make crap nuts! I didnt know that all I knew is that the thing was buzzing. Haven't had any problems with it since though.
i played one of these rosewood gibbys the other day. It was a bit heavier than the mahogony J45 and i didnt really think it sounded better. i prefered the original J45 but to each his own. both great guitars though. rock on brother!
After having heard this (and tried out a J-45 in the local shop) I started looking for a secondhand one. Which I did yesterday - greeeaaat guitar - (cool if this is all improvised. ) G is also my favorit chord :-) Michael -
hey do you know what the differences between the rosewood model and the mahogany model are? is it just the tone? and if so what are the differences in the tone?
I haven't got a clue ! Ha ha, Maybe they're he same ? Rosewood is allegedly better wood but to be honest, if you can play and it's a Gibson then it'll sound okay.

i tend to say its the opposite of what stevie46 says...i say the 'hog has a drier, flatter, more woody, typical acoustic sound (which is why its a great all-around workhorse guitar) while the rosewood provides more low end, more warmth overall and a terrific throaty middrange...but also a less bright top-end which is why i feel it can sound great with very bright strings (ie brass 80/20s).
Using Elixir 10's. Really great strings and they last forever. Factory set up was poor, I had this set up professionally, new nut improved action. Made a big difference.
wow 10s eh? (thats "extra light" right? nanoweb or polweb elixers?)? factory ships with 12s right? and you dont find them too light? why a new nut? was the saddle lowered? is the action much lower than factory? (mine feels pretty high). im always curious what others have done to their guitars.
Great playing. Do you own any Martins? I've been trying to find a Martin to buy but it seems to be taking forever. Maybe I should look into a nice Gibson instead.
Any Martin I've ever played has been only 'okay', for me GIbson make better acoustics. Others swear by Martins! Try a J-45 ( make sure the strings are new-ish at least) and see for yourself
