@SidJustice1 Yes, If I remember correctly, it premiered on a Thursday and broadcast a few epiosdes there as well but eventually moved to Saturday and was cancelled after 1 season. Watched the whole series on dvd this past summer. Seemed weird that over 20 years had passed since the show cancellation.

The opening theme sounded like a variation of the Batman theme. I'm not complaining, i think it's awesome and it gave the series a sense of DC Universe continuity. I love Danny Elfman's score!!!!

I came here expecting another goofy not-quite-there-yet superhero adaptation. I was wrong, very cool intro, great effects, and the music was fantastic and reminded me of the batman opening theme.

Well-done series---strong Batman/Elfman influence and exceptional writing. Unfortunately, the series was killed due to the excessive budget.  The fast-motion fx were very expensive and time-consuming.

@HamburgerJameson Believe it or not, GG was planned for season two. Other villains as well. CBS renewed the show then waited until the least minute to tell the producers that the budget would be cut. The producers basically said hell you might as well go ahead and cancel it then.

@joshminor7 it was a wrong place wrong time scenario. when they launched it, they had it planned to go against the Cosby Show for ratings, but Fox debuted the Simpsons at the same time, which annihilated it in views and ratings.

Not only did Elfman do the theme, but Shirley Walker composed the music for the series.  They would team together many times, including for Batman: The Animated Series.

His costume was awesome. It's one of the best I've seen. This series rocked and the speed effects were really good. At the beginning I was afraid that they were going to do the "Bionic man slow-mo run" but you can actually feel that he's going somewhere fast. So sad that it didn't last long. The rogues gallery was cool, especially Mark Hamill, and a killer soundtrack.

Danny Elfman(form Oingo Boingo!) is, in fact, a great composer. While most of his music boarders on frantic, thats why he's popular. He's fresh & (fairly)new, but he's also creative. Man in Black does NOT sound like Batman & Batman does NOT sound like SimPsons, & SimPsons does not sound like A Nightmare before CHRISTmas! Then there's Good Will Hunting, Dick Tracy(music oscar nominee!) & Mission Impossible among others. So lets not bother with the 'he's a hack' comments since they have no merit.

I got the DVD boxed set as soon as it came out. What a great show this was. It was well written with superb production values and had a unique comic book atmosphere about it. Like all truly good shows, it was killed after its first season. What a waste and a shame.

I wish there was a second season to follow up on The Flash's first. I'll never forget the premiere episode. It felt like I was reading a comic book. Great television series that was inspired by the success of the 1989 Batman movie. A crime it didn't last past the first season. I heard they would have introduced some more DC Comic Book supervillains like Grodd The Super Gorilla and Doctor Alchemy. At least seeing Mark Hamill as The Trickster was fun.

That's why they got Elfman to do the score in the first place. Second, why should it surprise anyone then that they both sound like Elfman's work? That just proves that he is a recognizable talent with a highly sought after signature sound...which just makes him all the greater. So, learn something before popping off at the mouth.

Yeah , that was a Real big part of it. I imagine that the totally fantasy style of the show's look and feel were not cheap by any means. The Gulf War coverage also pretty much destroyed the show's rating's and ability to find it's footing on CBS.

It's a shame that this series only lasted one season. Unfortunately, it was not only handicapped by competing against "the Simpsons" when it first aired, but it was preempted by news coverage of the Gulf War, as well as being shipped all over the CBS schedule grid. The fact that the show cost $ 1 million per episode to make was also a big factor.

@mwells219 Smallville is good because it's telling the part of the story that is pre-Superman days. It takes some creative license, but that's excusable when it's basically uncharted territory anyway. Made me go from only marginally liking Superman to being a much bigger fan because Smallville showed a more "human," personable side to Clark Kent and I was able to connect with the character.

As for the Flash, I liked this tv show and wish it lasted longer. Keep hoping for a feature film soon!
