  • During a earlier visit to Berlin, I was surprised to see a street near the Olympic Stadium named in Jesse Owens' honor: Jesse-Owens-Allee 14053 Berlin ... (you may goggle this).... And the video explains many of Mr. Owens comments about his experiences. Thanks for posting this video.

  • "When I passed the Chancellor he arose, waved his hand at me, and I waved back at him. I think the writers showed bad taste in criticizing the man of the hour in Germany." --Jesse Owens on reports that Hitler had deliberately avoided acknowledging him & refused to shake his hand, in The Jesse Owens Story (1970) “Hitler didn't snub me—it was [FDR] who snubbed me. The president didn't even send me a telegram.” --Jesse Owens quoted in Triumph, a book about the 1936 Olympics by Jeremy Schaap

  • @kristinaxfrost In Berlin Owens didn´t go to "blacks-only" hotels nor had a seat behind in public transport

  • Jesse Owens had to imply in this video that Hitler refused to handshake hands with him. But he does not make an statement, he just cites the words of the Major of Berlin in 1951 ".. 15 years ago Hitler did no try to shake hands with you ..". But, the fact is that Owens himself reported before the War that Hitler saluted him nazi style from the stands. After the War, Owens could not repeat such story, real history is the first casualty of any war.

  • Such a shame NAZIS treated blacks better than the American Whites back in the USA.

    America sucks

  • hitler thinks hes all right he thinks only german with a certain hair color and skin and eye color are part of a Master Race but then jesse beat them so hitler got mad and didnt really appreciate jesse but then a white german came over and shaked jesses hand and hugged him and it was the lasting images of the olympics

  • @jbel867 You are misstaken.

According to History, Hitler didnt shake hands with any of the winning athletes after the first day of the olympics BUT he did salute Owens from a distance

Jesse Owens was more welcome and respected in Nazi Germany than in the states.

So the misconception of Nazism is huge,

  • @kristinaxfrost I have to agree. It's only those "few" people who're ambitious to feed others with their ignorance.

  • May all racism fall, just like Hitler did, and may it fall quicker than Owens' 100m time in Berlin.

  • I have never seen this footage or commentary before, and I'm a huge fan of Jesse. THANK YOU wskay1 for posting. I am so glad to see that Jesse was welcomed back to Berlin as a revered hero. Pure class, on every level. I LOVED this!

  • woooohhhhhhhhhhhh thats realy fast

  • Jesse scorched the competition back in

'36. The guy was incredibly fast, even to today's standards.

  • Go on playa! Mad respect!
