Some time in my life, I am going to build an underground temple full of Scientific information and other stuff found by the human race, so that if the human race ever dies out, aliens will know what we were. This type of solar system model would make the perfect addition!
does anyone have any problem with the planets not turning properly?...my first 4 planets turn fine but the other ones move for a bit, then seem to stop? all the gears dont interlock like i though they would, there is a gap in between the gears were the arms are, so how are the planets suppose to spin ?? does any one else have this problem
I haven't been able to set mine up fully to see tbh, i can't get the moon arm in place, i'm sure they drilled the hole the wrong way for the screw! If i put it one way, it screws in but the gears clearly don't meet, an the way i put it for them to meet, i can't screw it! They just give bullshit about not being able to sort it out!
it would be cheaper to find one of these on the internet, try a gadget store or something like it. by the time you buy every magazine it will probably be in the hundreds of pounds. its a rip off. trust me i've been cought before
i didn`t need the extra gear they give you, i found it was tight because the earth arm was curved upwards, i took it to work and put it in a vice and bent it back, then it went round smooth as.
When Moons Collide! or when the Orrey is complete and we turn it on,the planet arms crash into the gears, all falls to bits in front of our families :)
I just got saturn lately and I discovered something that there's no solution for it. I think. The arm that holds saturn is bending down because of it's long arm. The big planet is even making it worse. I even changed all the grub screws to check what's wrong but nothing has led me to solve this problem. What do you think about this problem?
The publishers are LYING. They say it's made of brass - it's not. Hold a magnet hear the "brass" pieces - they are strongly attracted, showing they are ferrous, not brass. I was wondering why the instructions say they are coated with a "protective laquer" and that you shouldn't try to clean or polish them. Why? You'd damage the brass plating!
Actually, if you actually read the magazines, it says the gears are solid brass whilst the non-working parts are brass plated. If you hold a magnet next to the gears, it isn't attracted, ergo, the gears are indeed solid brass. They do actually say that the non-working parts are brass plated, so they are not lying.
The grub screw that's supposed to hold the Venus Gear Arm in place won't go in properly on mine:( I had to use Blu-Tak to try and fix the problem, which kinda ruins the novelty
A couple of parts in mine didnt fit exactly as i thought they should. plus mine wouldnt spin properly. My dad used a can of WD40 on it, seems to have done the trick!
After collecting the first 7 issues i was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the parts supplied. However i am disappointed with the model of the earth in issue 8. The model of earth advertised was in finer detail with antartica and clouds clearly visible. When i purchased issue 8 i was disappointed that the earth model had no resemblence to the one in the magazine. I believe i have been mislead and now the excitement of buying the weekly magazine has dwindled.
got the tools today but I don't like em, the phillips screwdriver could easily slip and wear the little brass screws and the alan keys feel flimsy when you put pressure on them, worth the money in my opinion, just take your time building it...don't rush it you could easily make mistakes not following the instructions :)
built up to venus tonight, I recommend doing it in the day time or at the least under good light as the grub screws are very small and easily lost! spent 10 minutes looking for one under the sofa! It is fairly easy to follow but do it as it comes rather then building up magazines and doing it all at once. It took me 1.5 hours tonight looks good.
Yay! I am getting this. I have the first four issues. Does anyone know if I should buy the toolkit, or just use the stuff I have around the house (my parents house). Not sure if I need to buy that or just use stuff I have. it looks confusing hopefully I will be able to build it.
where can I buy this?

@JRERRA1382 I have had one of these for last three years, it is supurb quality. The brass is now starting to darken so it now looks even better.

Do they ship to Canada? How much would it be all together? and how long does it take for you to get all the pieces?
