This was a setup. Both players made the score end that way so that they would both move on in that format. They discussed it several minutes before the match began. Tony is a really nice guy and got screwed even though he has beat reyes 3 times including this one. I lost all respect for reyes after this, you should play to win and not intentionally cheat others. Earl even stood up for Tony and was screaming at people about this after the match.

the commentator didn't know some old Philippine bilyarista tricks....you don't need to pocket the 9 ball when your opponent already conceded....funny how he said.."... reyes missed the 9....unbelievable"...hahahaha.­...i do that all the time when my opponents conceded, i make some effortless exhibition shot on the 9...it's either a way to show respect with your opponent's decision to concede or just plain playing silly....it's nothing special...just the usual Filipino billiard etiquette..

This is the final round of qualification. 2 out of 4 proceed to last 64 single elimination tournament.

Apancho beat two guys and this is the last match of their group. He secures 5 rack so he cannot be 3rd or 4th in the group, I think he knew this fact at that time.

Efren beat a player however Tony Crosby of USA defeated him so he must win this game to get ticket to final stage.

That's one of the oldest tricks in the book.... if somebody gives you the 9-ball and concedes the game shoot it anyway and miss it just to screw with 'em :P

Works well for short putts in golf too ;)

I was there sitting ring side in that match... And of course Roy Apancho has conceded after he missed the 9, shook Efren's hand after that. Efren tried something crazy with that 9 because he knew that he had that match. He's just showing off some shots for the crowd since the whole match did not produce really great and fantastic shots...

Everyone does it specially in the philippines... if the opponent concedes the other player tend to miss it on purpose or sometimes even pretend to miscue so the other one would think that they shouldnt have conceded. Hehhe. Great video!

Who knows what Reyes was thinking? Maybe he tried to bank it or just lost concentration. He would almost certainly have made the 9 if Apancho had not conceded but this shows why you never, ever shoot the 9 if the opponent concedes. Once he throws in the towel, shakes your hand, or unscrews the stick, it's over and you shake hands and call it a match.

Apancho has conceded the match by shaking efren's hand. Efren was trying a trick shot for the fans but the cue ball hits the 9. Notice how he hits the 9 THICKER, he was going for the BANK on the side pocket. Pool players knows that shot. If you know what I mean. IT would have been a great ending has Efren made that bank.
