i dont understand why youve put so much attribute points into strength, you only need around 20 to 25 for quite good armour and also spare some cunning and put them all in dexterity. you get more damage with bows, increases critical chance and evasion.

Far song is aquired by not saving the black smiths daughter on the quest "lost in the castle". After finishing all the events of the caste, you return to the blacksmith, who has found out her daughter was never found. You are then kicked out of the shop. You return ( not sure the event period ) to find out the smith hung himself and theres a new smithy. This new smithy sells the bow for 100 something gold. ( source: experience )
@574383 A dagger and a shield would be good if you were a DEX Warrior and taking,which you're (hopefully) not.I'd recommend getting another dagger just for higher DPS and good stat increases on your off-hand.And like tna said,get Leathality so you can use Cunning instead of Strength.Speaking of which,whatever your current Strength is at,stop it there and get Dexterity to 34-36 and pump Cunning.You'll be an effective backstabber then. :D

I have tested a Bard/Assassin and a Ranger/Assassin. My Bard/Assassin did like 100 damage per attack, but because I had him set with cunning for testing out crits he did a max of 1200 damage so far. With the Ranger/Assassin he attacked with 160 damage with the dex build, but with crits he only did a max of 900. With mark of death it added like 10 extra damage I seen and idk if it is even worth it or not.
@Balintcool You get Far Song from the smithy in Redcliffe, but there's a catch: remember how he tells you to rescue his daughter Valena? If you find her and complete the quest, he's happy and nothing much happens. If you do not find her (you can find her, just don't talk to her), go back to the smithy and tell him you couldn't find Valena. He will be replaced by another new smithy, and she's the only one to sell Far Song. At the end you get to know what became of the poor smithy.
How do you find the ancient elven boots? I have asked ser bryant for assistance but the boots aren't in the cabinet. Do you have to say or do something to get them?
@MJ1284 Actually I tested that out myself, Assassin when using Mark of Death, it adds like 10 damage with every attack you do. Not much but it does add up. Now the rest of the moves do nothing unless you dual wield.
@JonathonMichaelFinan Mark of Death does affects ranged attacks true, but I find Bard/Duelist much more useful. Dueling adds +10 Attack and Song of Courage buffs Attack & Damage & Critical chance (based on CUN) to whole party, IMO that 10 extra damage pales in comparison. But if you have another Rogue in party with Assassin spec. it's definitely worth casting MoD on tougher enemies.
In DA:A it doesn't matter what you do with Archer, Accuracy is ridiculously OPed.
my archer does 80 to 90 dmg with one shot....just saying...don`t make a vod if you`re not that good and the song its to damn expensiv...you find better bow`s anyway...

Well the best armor and one of my favorites for rogue archers is the felon's coat you get at wades emporium for 88 gold it's more efective then the elvin! and Daul weapons are good If u can't use your bow in CQC
you should invest 3 points for lethalty so that your strengh modifier for damage can get replaced with cunning (then cunning acts as strengh in your damage out put doing more damage), you could also switch the Ancient Elven set fot felon's coat, jenny's seekers, helm of honnelath, and cadash stompers, with this, u can go perma crit by the time your lvl 24
at level 18 i managed to have 60 dexterity 30 cunning and be able to wear the superior dragonscale armor . Archer build is one of the highest damage build in the game you should pick it if you want the heavy hitter trophy
Instead of the ancient elven armor, you could use the dragonscale armor that Wade crafts if you bring him enough drake scales.
Instead of the Far Song, you could use Falon'Din's Reach, the most powerful bow in the game, which you can get as loot by defeating the dragon in the heart of the Brecilian Ruins.

The best armour for an archer is one of these:
Battledress of the Provocateur (Leliana's song DLC)
Evon the Great's mail (bought from Wade's Emporium BEFORE you give him the second set of drake scales)
The Felon's Coat (also bought from Wade's Emporium)

If you did not know, as you go up the armor scale (light, medium, heavy, massive), the aggro from enemies also increases (hence why alistair is targeted more often than others unless you've matched his armor style with another party member). Also, it requires great strength and increases alot of fatigue, rendering your talents to cost more than they should...
@qwerty50886 ...Another thing to note is rogues are best with daggers. don't mind swords. Reason is that daggers have higher criticals and armor penetration. Which is much more important than the initial damage. With light armors decreasing aggro so that the enemy is distracted by your massive-armored tank, you can flank the rear and backstab for a real potentially high damage. Search youtube for "Dragon Age Origins - Super Fast Duel With Teyrn Loghain" and you will be amazed...
Wade Drakeskin is too ugly for women, so i myself will use Ancient Elven Armor, i don't care how people say about that matter. So i agree with the armor except few things, the stats is odd...he should have only have 22 str + 4 from the Fade for the armor, the rest invest in Cunning with Lethality

@swiffstep You have to play through Redcliffe castle and make sure you don't talk to Valenna. Doesn't matter if you run into her, long as you don't talk with her you can tell Owen that you didn't find his daughter.

i know what armor he is whereing, ancient elven armor. its a set that has all of its part spread throughout MULTIPLE locations in the game, if you miss one of them, there is no way to get it back. the boots are in lothering, in the church i think. the armor itself is in the brasilian ruins, after the arcane horror battle. the helm is with the old hermit, trade him either the scarf, the book, or a ring for it. im sorry to say i dont know where to get the arms just yet. ill post again when i do...
Get to 26(Fade bonuses gets you to 30) dex and pump everything else into cunning and keep up SOC and Aim and have Shale in your party with Rock Mastery on and with the right gear you will crit pretty much every shot and hit over 100 easily
One more thing I forgot to mention. Master Archer is the one thing you cannot miss, it's the best archer talent. This build is fantastic all around regardless of gear. Get yourself Dex. and crit% gear and spend points on Cunning. 2 crits with this build are actually better than Arrow of Slaying on med and high armor enemies. I hit 800 + damage every now and then with it with my level 23 archer. Something like 86% crit fully buffed. Neat!
cont... After reaching 40 or so Dex. go for Cunning, because later in the game armor penetration is far more important than damage. The more cunning the better. Keeping constant Aim is only good if you have Rapid Aim, so Far Song will do the trick nicely. Don't use your talents in combat too much; this build does all with crit% and don't forget Song of Courage (2nd spec.) It stacks with Leliana's and Rock Mastery if you get Shale. Wicked sustained damage. Thanks for the video buddy.
30 Dex is all you need, 28 if you can live without Arrow of Slaying. Otherwise I'll agree you guidelines, Song of Courage + Aim = Godlike crit%
Only combat talents I'd use with this archer is Scattershot (AoE damage) and Shattering Shot (knockdown).
Oh, and here's another combination: Pinpoint Strike/Death Hex + Rapid Shot = Forced Criticals.. best thing is that you can get rid of that pesky attack speed drop caused by Aim.
@MJ1284 Sounds good! I can't remember offhand, but won't Rapid Shot disable Aim? But you're right, Pinpoint is also good if you're patient enough to reach it. There's a lot more to a good build but these short comments don't make it easy. You'll be interested to know that on my other rogue run I forgot where Far Song came from and I rescued the armor-smith's daughter. Dang.

Yes, Rapid Shot disables Aim.. but you don't need Aim while Death Hex/Pinpoint Strike is active, "Forced Criticals" overrides the whole "you can't crit with Rapid Shot" rule so might as well make the best use out of increased attack speed.
I haven't tested this yet, but Rapid Shot + Suppressing Fire sounds nice combo.
Actually not, Aim gives -1.5s penalty to your "aiming speed" and most "Rapid Aim" items give you 0.3s boost to your "aiming speed". Therefore you'd need 5 "Rapid Aim" items to negate the aim time penalty completely.
All in all, CUN based Rogue archers is still pretty balanced all things considered (high crit% but "slow" attack speed)... DA:A broke archers, "Accuracy" is so overpowered it's not even funny.
@MJ1284 I'm responding to your comment about Dragon Age archers from a few months ago, and about getting only 28 DEX if you can sacrifice Arrow of Slaying. Sorry about the delay, but I suppose it does no harm. I used a user generated patch for some of the minor bugs in the game, and I liked it because it addressed only arithmetical errors, mostly for archers with Aim, Rapid Shot and whatnot. It also fixes Arrow of Slaying to do what it's supposed to, and now it hits in the thousands. Fun!
@1971ojoalparche1971 AoS is nice ability even in vanilla version, it's just that it has massive cooldown & fatigue penalty. As Dragon Age Wiki stated:
"This damage bonus is reduced to 10% against Lieutenant and Boss creatures, while Elite Boss creatures are immune. "
AoS isn't particularly useful IMO, things it does one-shot are easy to kill with auto-attacks and things you'd LIKE to kill fast (Lieutenants and Bosses) are nearly immune to it. I'd much rather have archer as backrow DPS & Debuff
I see many people only criticize you because of your video, and no one offers any insight. I can recommend you another slight variation on your build, and it's fun! Even though B. Belt and D. Strike are useless for archers, go that way and reach Lethality for the crit bonus. Duelist for a second spec. because you really want Dueling. Spells: Master Archer. Keep Aim and Dueling on all time and you have a killing machine...cont

I do have this on console yes but I haven't picked up the game in a while, so I don't have a way to form a hypothesis on dexterity actually making your damage rate go up, I picked up awakenings so I should be able to help you soon.
For me the best armor for a archer still being wade superior drakeskin +4 Dexterity +70 Fire Resistance Set: -10% Fatigue Set: +5 Defense A total of 12.75 armor and Fatigue: 4.03% and the Ancient Elven Armor Set +1 Constitution +2 Dexterity +4 Armor +4% Spell Resistance +35% Spirit Resistance Set: +5 Defense Armor: 11.20 Fatigue: 12.95% and is a medium armor, you need more str to carry this one.

atleast one rogue should definitely be in ur team. i have 2 mages one rogue and one tank. however i dnt need th rogue as much as my warrior bcuz iv gt some devatating spells tht can kill these wolfs in no time and i dnt have to run around i just paralyse thm and thn th job is done. but th problem with ths is if th enemies appear right in front of u thn u cnt cast aoe spells or else thy will hurt u aswell so u should hv a rogue maxed with archery abilities to deal situation at these times.

@SanctusDiabolica i have played a looott this game.. soloing 100% with warrior and rogue in Nightmare... and finish with party 3 times the game. but i never have found that bow... do you know how much % drop chance do there is to get that bow? thxs.

@SanctusDiabolica Far Song is stronger than Falon'Din's Reach, it gives the +2 damage and Rapid Aim that Falon'Din's Reach gives as well as ranged crit chance, crit damage and attack.
The best armour for an archer is one of these:
Battledress of the Provocateur (Leliana's song DLC)
Evon the Great's mail (bought from Wade's Emporium BEFORE you give him the second set of drake scales)
The Felon's Coat (also bought from Wade's Emporium)

@qwerty50886 absolutely not. If you did not know, as you go up the armor scale (light, medium, heavy, massive), the aggro from enemies also increases (hence why alistair is targeted more often than others unless you've matched his armor style with another party member). Also, it requires great strength and increases alot of fatigue, rendering your talents to cost more than they should...

@qwerty50886 ...Another thing to note is rogues are best with daggers. don't mind swords. Reason is that daggers have higher criticals and armor penetration. Which is much more important than the initial damage. With light armors decreasing aggro so that the enemy is distracted by your massive-armored tank, you can flank the rear and backstab for a real potentially high damage. Search youtube for "Dragon Age Origins - Super Fast Duel With Teyrn Loghain" and you will be amazed...

Wade Drakeskin is too ugly for women, so i myself will use Ancient Elven Armor, i don't care how people say about that matter. So i agree with the armor except few things, the stats is odd...he should have only have 22 str + 4 from the Fade for the armor, the rest invest in Cunning with Lethality

@swiffstep You have to play through Redcliffe castle and make sure you don't talk to Valenna. Doesn't matter if you run into her, long as you don't talk with her you can tell Owen that you didn't find his daughter.

i know what armor he is whereing, ancient elven armor. its a set that has all of its part spread throughout MULTIPLE locations in the game, if you miss one of them, there is no way to get it back. the boots are in lothering, in the church i think. the armor itself is in the brasilian ruins, after the arcane horror battle. the helm is with the old hermit, trade him either the scarf, the book, or a ring for it. im sorry to say i dont know where to get the arms just yet. ill post again when i do...

Cunning archer > Dex Archer
Get to 26(Fade bonuses gets you to 30) dex and pump everything else into cunning and keep up SOC and Aim and have Shale in your party with Rock Mastery on and with the right gear you will crit pretty much every shot and hit over 100 easily

One more thing I forgot to mention. Master Archer is the one thing you cannot miss, it's the best archer talent. This build is fantastic all around regardless of gear. Get yourself Dex. and crit% gear and spend points on Cunning. 2 crits with this build are actually better than Arrow of Slaying on med and high armor enemies. I hit 800 + damage every now and then with it with my level 23 archer. Something like 86% crit fully buffed. Neat!

cont... After reaching 40 or so Dex. go for Cunning, because later in the game armor penetration is far more important than damage. The more cunning the better. Keeping constant Aim is only good if you have Rapid Aim, so Far Song will do the trick nicely. Don't use your talents in combat too much; this build does all with crit% and don't forget Song of Courage (2nd spec.) It stacks with Leliana's and Rock Mastery if you get Shale. Wicked sustained damage. Thanks for the video buddy.

30 Dex is all you need, 28 if you can live without Arrow of Slaying. Otherwise I'll agree you guidelines, Song of Courage + Aim = Godlike crit%
Only combat talents I'd use with this archer is Scattershot (AoE damage) and Shattering Shot (knockdown).
Oh, and here's another combination: Pinpoint Strike/Death Hex + Rapid Shot = Forced Criticals.. best thing is that you can get rid of that pesky attack speed drop caused by Aim.

@MJ1284 Sounds good! I can't remember offhand, but won't Rapid Shot disable Aim? But you're right, Pinpoint is also good if you're patient enough to reach it. There's a lot more to a good build but these short comments don't make it easy. You'll be interested to know that on my other rogue run I forgot where Far Song came from and I rescued the armor-smith's daughter. Dang.

Yes, Rapid Shot disables Aim.. but you don't need Aim while Death Hex/Pinpoint Strike is active, "Forced Criticals" overrides the whole "you can't crit with Rapid Shot" rule so might as well make the best use out of increased attack speed.
I haven't tested this yet, but Rapid Shot + Suppressing Fire sounds nice combo.

Actually not, Aim gives -1.5s penalty to your "aiming speed" and most "Rapid Aim" items give you 0.3s boost to your "aiming speed". Therefore you'd need 5 "Rapid Aim" items to negate the aim time penalty completely.
All in all, CUN based Rogue archers is still pretty balanced all things considered (high crit% but "slow" attack speed)... DA:A broke archers, "Accuracy" is so overpowered it's not even funny.

@MJ1284 I'm responding to your comment about Dragon Age archers from a few months ago, and about getting only 28 DEX if you can sacrifice Arrow of Slaying. Sorry about the delay, but I suppose it does no harm. I used a user generated patch for some of the minor bugs in the game, and I liked it because it addressed only arithmetical errors, mostly for archers with Aim, Rapid Shot and whatnot. It also fixes Arrow of Slaying to do what it's supposed to, and now it hits in the thousands. Fun!

@1971ojoalparche1971 AoS is nice ability even in vanilla version, it's just that it has massive cooldown & fatigue penalty. As Dragon Age Wiki stated:
"This damage bonus is reduced to 10% against Lieutenant and Boss creatures, while Elite Boss creatures are immune. "
AoS isn't particularly useful IMO, things it does one-shot are easy to kill with auto-attacks and things you'd LIKE to kill fast (Lieutenants and Bosses) are nearly immune to it. I'd much rather have archer as backrow DPS & Debuff

I see many people only criticize you because of your video, and no one offers any insight. I can recommend you another slight variation on your build, and it's fun! Even though B. Belt and D. Strike are useless for archers, go that way and reach Lethality for the crit bonus. Duelist for a second spec. because you really want Dueling. Spells: Master Archer. I do have this on console yes but I haven't picked up the game in a while, so I don't have a way to form a hypothesis on dexterity actually making your damage rate go up, I picked up awakenings so I should be able to help you soon.

atleast one rogue should definitely be in ur team. i have 2 mages one rogue and one tank. however i dnt need th rogue as much as my warrior bcuz iv gt some devatating spells tht can kill these wolfs in no time and i dnt have to run around i just paralyse thm and thn th job is done. but th problem with ths is if th enemies appear right in front of u thn u cnt cast aoe spells or else thy will hurt u aswell so u should hv a rogue maxed with archery abilities to deal situation at these times.
