And the small flame on the end of the barrel is propably gasses that re-ignite after the shell has left the barrel and the pressure in the barrel drops to a normal level. This happens more often when firing large amounts of shells continuously, unburned gunpoweder & whatnot stick to the surface of the chamber and at some point come off and ignite.

Sorry to ruin your clip, but there is no backfire.

The flames to the side og the firing canon is due to the Muzzle Brake of the gun, directing the main part of the blast sideways to reused recoil.

The clip of something burning is not of the Paladin, but another clip.

If, the shell did go off inside the canon, the result would be utter destruction of the gun and the turret.

This is evidently not the chase.

So... just another bogus clip on youtube, trying to misinform.

something went wrong, if you watch carefully the end of the barrel is bent. so something fucked up royally. shell might have exploded near the end of the barrel causing the bend

No. If you take the time to take it frame by frame, after the shot there is a bit of burning gas around the muzlebrake, this distorts the image, and givs the impresion that somthing went wrong...

But looking at the last frame, the flame dies out and the barrle and muzzlebrake is esactly as they ware before the shot.

And if somthing went wrong, the barrle would newer bent.

So take a good look this time, cause there is no misfiring Paladin in this video. ;)

This is not possible, if the bag detonated behind the shell and caused that massive fire that quickly inside the vehicle, the crewmen would be dead. The bag detonating that fast would have cooked everyone inside, just like what happened to the Iowa when she had a bag detonating in the still open breech.

@Geilswijk Shells dont go off unless armed. heat will not ignite them without pressure. our tanks and arty do not use brass casings. the tanks use a cellusos case that is fragil cardboard like material and the arty uses pre measured bags of propellant. with that said... if there is a fire in a tank of howitzer, it will not be a huge explosion... it will be a flaming mess due to the amount of room the powder has to burn and the slow rate at wich it burns when not compressed in a breech.

@Geilswijk also as there is usually a "flash" at the end of a muzzle break.. there shoulnt be a flash followed by a "fizzle" as shown here. the fizzle is likely due to a fouled bore evacuator that hadnt been cleaned resulting in a flash back which isnt un common in M1 series tanks nor the 109 paly. the flash back would have flashed the inside of the turret and caused a bag to ignite. if you are going to troll at least research.. spc4 B-2-252 armor, 19k M1A1 crewman. Hooah

Looks like flames came back from the tube inside and set it afire. The crew run away while the powder explodes. After a while, shells also explode so it becomes a big fireball.

In the case it is not properly closed, there is a (high) risk of backdraft. Here we don't see the original shot. What we see is the explosion of a ball of powder because of the fire.

It looks like the round got stuck in the tube and exploded in the tube. It's rare but it does happen. Never happened to me in my 3 1/2 yrs in artillery. But one of my section chiefs said it happened to him once. All you can do is run and call EOD.

the round fired, you can tell by the recoil of the tube, as for the actual term of what happend, i forget, but there was still dunnage burnin in the tube and when the breach opened the flames swept back through catching open propellant cannisters on fire, and this is from 14 years (and counting) of artillery, and having talked to people that were there.... no, the video of the gun firing on the inside i doubt was the one burning, but ya never know, oh well,, cool to see though
