I don't even mess with shooting gar unless they are huge. I like to eat them and they are a pain to clean, and if they are small, you won't get much of a fillet. Also, if you are killing gar in a situation like this, you are taking out another predator that feeds on baby carp, essentially contributing to the carp problem.  Once the silver and bighead spawn, you can see gar eating tons of the fry. Excellent shot, headshots are the best. With the structure of the head, they don't pull off much

@ArcticCat137 Any rough fish with no size or possesion limit. Also in the states with invasive species like the bighead or silver carp, i say in the states with them because i am in MN and these fish have not yet come up the river to me. (thank god)

look on amsbowfishing website and they sell kits, if you have a compound bow, the place you screw in your counter weight, they sell adapters to screw into there and you put a reel on that. then just buy a zebco and line to put on it along with fishing arrows and your set

i went out at night 4 my first time last night. i bowfish in the day a lot but the first night out wasnt really good. electric motor burnt up. the good thing was i saw about a 50lb+ common carp. thats a state record where i live and i never used a generator. spotlight worked 4 about an hour. then we went to the 2 bow mount lights

You just need a special reel, not a special bow. You can get a basic set up from cabelas for about $30 that would work fine for a beginner.
