I still love this song ,and when it came out I was in my early twenties. I knew a New york DJ,He made me tape and I alwaYs played this jam.I'm so glad i found it!
I don't mind saying that this was one of the first KC tunes I got my hands on back in 92. Bought a lot of KC thereafter! Kerri set the tone right here; minimalism - kickdrum and bass with a very precisely rationed little bit of all the other elements (synth, snare, vocals, strings) goes a very long way. Goes to show that it ain't what you got, but what you DO with what you got that really counts. Masterful. Jolar, if you've still got yr tapes from early 90s you're a lucky feller. I have one!!!
Koolzainski, you're in fact partly correct. The vocal sample is Robin S (Show Me Love is sampled here). On backing vocals are Velva Johnson (Tears of Velva)& Wilma Beckford.
Yesterday I bought a Walkman(!) to listen to all my old tapes I had made of the vinyl I was buying in the early 90's. This song was on it and it really blew me away. This is such a beautiful and patient production. It has nothing to do with the rave music of its day nor the diva-overload of a lot of garage at that time either. It's truly original deep house and almost a blues number. I remember dancing to it in clubs then but it's hard to imagine it being played now. A very sweet record.
from about 3:30 on is just so deep

The vocalist sounds very much like Robin S. or Cece Penniston, I guess that was the house style of singing in those days...
good stuff.
I like this Kerri Chandler so much better than the 2000's Kerri....
