I have seen Yes twice (2000 and 2002). I believe the Union Tour must have been one of their greatest tours ever. (I do like both classic and Rabin-era periods... I actually like everything in Yes ;)). Awaken was possibly the highlight of this tour. Absolutely amazing. Long live to all Yes members!!!
@trandangle As much as I am a Bill fan, I've always thought that some of his additions to Awaken in this tour do not perfectly work. (Maybe it is also a matter of being too loud, as you said...)
Just to see all of the YES members on one stage in a union which i believe is what they meant by doing this unFUCKINGBELIEVABLE. I love it. GOD BLESS YES
Seen Yes 4 times and had the privilege of seeing them perform this at two of those shows. God knows how many times I've listened to it over the years and every time I do, the ending always moves me to tears. The only other Yes song that can rival this one in my mind is Gates.
This brings back so many memories.I saw them in Birmingham (England) and when they played Awaken I was in complete heaven. It was worth the ticket price just for this.Me and my mate Si Gilmore and an evening of Yes VIRTUOSITY. Superb!!!!!
Beuatiful...just beautiful. Great live performance. This song is one their greatest tunes. Hope all is well for you Jon... recover soon. Love and light. XX
I saw their Topographic Oceans show in Denver in 1974 (??). Absolutely awesome show. YouTube has opened a whole new world of old Yes (Tull, ELP, etc) concert footage to some of the finest music ever made.

Thanks for posting this, but this video really ruined a great performance. Whoever edited this footage obviously has no clue about this song. For example, Wakeman is soloing at 4:53, but yet the video stays on Trevor Rabin who is just standing there holding his guitar, clicking his effects pedals for his reentry to the music. I swear, Yes has some of the worst videos out there and it's a shame!
I saw this tour 7 times and watching it again still gives me joy. I was still taken back that they played Awaken in that show. I have seen them 38 times in concert and I still always look back on this show as one of my favs.
Saw this tour 3 times, and it remains the best I've seen. When the machine kicked in, the power was palpable. Until today, I've never been able to touch those moments. I am truly lucky. Thank you to those who made it there for me. One of the times, during "Awaken" in fact, there was some weird magic created. I've felt musical ecstacy, and this was different. I looked around, and others were in it also. I can't describe it any better. Some odd magic.
@dmcastro100 I did see tales performed live all four pieces back to back and your correct the two albums in which these songs reside are the finest recordings Jon and Rick have ever recorded ... hopefully we will see a rebirth of Yes once again in our life times. Steve
Lols, long time Yes concert goer here (since 72) your right, certainly Rabin has no sensitivity for this material, he completely over plays and ruins the atmosphere of this song, (atmosphere being what this song is about) ... on the other hand, ditto on "The Big White Light" as you remarked a few comments down
I've never been even one Yes live performance, so I had been thinking for longtime that it would be impossible to perform Awaken, the greatest composotion - besides Topographic Ocean - live. I was wrong, of course. Every time I listen to Awaken - once a week at least - I am deeply moved, and hardly can I retain my tears.
@Pofazovics I have seen both tours Tales at age 16 and Going for the One which contains Awaken at age 19. on this album Jon Anderson: Vocals, percussion, harp Chris Squire: Bass guitar, vocals
Steve Howe: Electric and acoustic guitars, Spanish Laúd ( incorrectly listed as a "vachalia" at the time, and since as a "Portuguese guitarra" ), lap steel guitar, vocals
Alan White: Drums, percussion awaken was perfect.
Rick Wakeman: Piano, organ, Polymoog and Minimoog synthesizers, church organ

Yes, that's true. And Bruford's drums are certainly over-amplified. Also a bit strange if I compare this to his rather jazzy drumming style of Fragile and the Yes album. And I have trouble hearing Howe's guitar here...A pity for what could be their masterpiece.. (along with "close to the edge") "Going for the one" was one of the finest albums they've made.
I love "Awaken", "Turn of the century" and "Wondrous stories"..
Jon Anderson had the nerve to say that the best Awaken was from 1991 LA Forum. We all know that's not true. He's just saying that. 1977, 1978, 1979 make the 1991 versions look like a piece of crap!!!!!!!!!!

As a kid we would always have battles on who the best guitar player in the world was. I would always choose Steve Howe.

My how I miss Bill Bruford..does anyone hear his rifts in this song. They are so very distinct!

I had never heard this song before. Did you see the intensity of Steve Howe? Guess it is time to go out and by Tales of the Topographic Oceans.

Awaken is on Going for the One, not Tales From Topograpic Oceans. The reviewer below is just saying he or she saw the Topograpic Oceans show in 1974.

Definitely the same video shots used on Yes Years, but the audio is way below par by comparison.
