"Halacha gives clear guidlelines" including covering the color bone. that is actually one of the few things that are explicitly stated. (unfortunately lots of that bone showing) I'm not like a religious zealot or anything but I find that this video does not do the job of showing what tznius is in the slightest. sexy? yes. very sexy but tznius not so much
What I don't get about this is that it is MEN who are telling WOMEN how to dress. Is this the late 1800's, the Middle Ages, Roman times? the Orthodox ( of any religion ) need to get a grip and come into the 20th century.
A LOT of what is flying for acceptable/modest in Crown Hts, and other Orthodox communities these days is in fact ONLY modest by comparison to the majority American culture. The video talks about collar bones and knees, yet in actuality there was a lot of both showing. As for that standard it's really lacking. The truly modest standard is skirts to the ankle and sleeves to the wrist, collar bones covered and looser clothes, NOT form fitting ones. The standards now is Hot Chanie: Lo ssanua.
@AbigayilNeshama Shalom. It bothers me as a baal tshuva man that the women here in CH push the envelope so much. I've always believed in saying something if you see something wrong & you think you can change it, & in shining light instead fighting darkness. When I see a woman who you can tell is trying, but finding it hard to be tznius, I say (in a tznius way of course)"Yashar koach ma'am on dressing tznius, I know it's difficult these days!" They really appreciate the boost!
@The95kaiserdanish Oh sorry, I thought you were from one of those weird cults that operate under the blanket of christianity. When they make comments such as that, they usually mean it. My bad.
@zagnutmmm None taken. It was my action of writing that provoked you. Its okay not your bad. But it was me other wise you wouldnt have replied. Never mind
Anyways try not getting bothered by any one comments. At the end of the day we all are unique, all human beings are unique in their own ways. We should respect one another besides the difference we may experience in our daily lives. We all have opinions and we should listen to one another
Bending the rules? Blurring the lines? Grey areas? Let's get real here and remember why orthodox women are required to dress b'tznius: we are bas melochim. Tznius is so much more than covering knees and elbows (not all would be yotzi here either!). Many could draw strength from the Bais Yaakov standards in tnzius. The sefer Oz V'Hadar Levusha by Rabbi Falk offers clear & comprehensive delineation of halochos of tznius. Form fitting, multi-coloured sequined and sexy is nothing to emulate.
while this is all nice for your husband, this is a big Chillul tora.if you anna dress like a ho,then atleast dress like a ho,not ACT like its tznius and do 50 /50!
Very interesting (and saddening) that these people think that tznius is just a list of rules and that its simply about whats covered and whats not covered. its a way of life. the point is that a woman should hold herself to be more than a pound of flesh. a woman should not dress (or act) in a way that will make men stare at her body. just because your knees and elbows are covered doesnt make it tznius. Tznius is something so much deeper than what these ignorant people make it out to be. its sad
The idea of being able to dress tznius and express your individual tastes doesn't work for some people. Before becoming religious, my style was brightly colored figure fitting pants and often a black top. Though, I also did yellow or orange tank tops with red pants and sometimes a pink top with my fuschia pants. If your style is pants, you can't adapt that to tznius.
@Michalbasavraham why arent pants tzniut? if anything, men shouldnt be able to wear pants cuz you can see their goods. girls dont have goods there. everyone has their own opinion on what is modest. saying that pants arent tzniut is just the opinion of many rabbis, because women didnt wear pants much before the 20th century. why don't we just put on burkas and then the entire "issue" of tzniut can be put to rest? i'm sick and tired of it.
personally, i find pants to be more tzniut than skirts.
@xanafanadu I should have put "tznius" in quotes at the end. I was being a little combative. After all, so many of the hot chani girls wear tight short skirts and tight tops with heels and skanky make up.
just because clothes don't cover your elbows, doesn't mean it's not modest. but if you're going to wear clothes that are "sexy", you are officially NOT being modest.
Covering one's elbows is a no brainer. The proprieters of this store do not. Tight is wrong. SEXY and MODEST are oxymorons and to pass this off as allowable in the Torah is in all honesty HERESY...
