All of that ended in 1948 when Israel established their state, which forcefully removed hundreds of thousands of native Palestinians, and then in 1967 when they illegally expanded their borders into Egypt, Syria and directly occupied the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

I am for the original partition of November, 1947, which said that Israel would make up 45% of Palestine. What I am opposed to is that they didn’t compensate Arabs living within that 45% and just killed them and kicked them out.

When did I say that? Israel started the war, don’t forget. Article 2 of the UN Charter says that countries cannot acquire land by force, and Israeli acquiring the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights and Sinai Peninsula in 1967 were violations of that, which is why the Security Council passed 242 in November, 1967, ordering Israel to withdraw from territories they occupied after the June, 1967 War. Israel has been in violation of that for almost 43 years now.

3. Egypt and Syria weren’t planning to attack Israel. The Israelis were attacking Syria years before the June, 1967 war. Moshe Dayan, in his memoirs, admitted that Israel provoked the war with Syria because they wanted the Golan Heights, which they ceased AFTER the cease fire. And Nasser wasn’t about to attack Israel, as the Soviets only gave him small amounts of defensive weapons.

Taking the Egyptian army out would prevent any threat from any other country. Israel was able to wipe out Egypt in a matter of hours. Nasser imposed the blockade because Israel wasn’t living up to Resolution 194. Legal experts like Charles Yost that the Straits of Tiran and the Gulf of Aquba were Egyptian waters.

These “provocative” acts did not justify war, and certainly did not justify land expansion, which is illegal under international law. Syria threw in the towel after Jordan and Egypt accepted a cease-fire on June 8th, and Israel still attacked. The 1967 war embarrassed Nasser, who was recognized as the leader of Arab unity, took the Sinai which they considered a “buffer” which they built illegal settlements on, and took the Golan Heights. All illegally.
