The Studio filled the gap of the Inspiron 1720, although, if you ask me, the graphics card of the Studio 17 sucks...

Because the programming on it kept breaking because it was prototype. My dad bought me and my sister a 1720 laptop each and both of them stopped working.

Some 1720s sell less than the 1525, depends on the hardware inside the machines. Like if you had a 1525 with a dual-core 2.5ghz intel processor and the 1720 had a single core processor, that could account for the price gap. Or differences in ram, hard drive, optical drive, battery, bluetooth, wireless card, os, software, etc.

ok well dell can put the higher graphic cards in, they did in the 1520/1521 but when they remade the models (1525) they decided to put the intergrated card cuz they want you to get the xps or studio because there higher end laptops/notebooks

Yeah, the 1520 is also a bit bulky. The 1525 is the way to go.

so let me get this straight. so the only difference is the screen size and hdmi port? cuz then ill just go with the smaller one cuz i dont need a big huge laptop, i need a small light one. Ive been lookin at both of these.

Yes, the 1525 is much smaller. The other major difference is you can get a discrete video card in the 1720 and can't in the 1525.

I sell HPs and Dells. I prefer Dells quite a bit in terms of keyboard feel, quality of the build, etc. The main difference of the 1720 and the 1525 is size. The 1720 is 17" and the 1525 is 15". Best, Dan

You are wrong. Dell's support is infinitely better than HP, in my experience, and HP's arrive LOADED with crapware.

The Processor make the computer think faster. The bus speed controls how fast the processor can get its computations over to the rest of the computer. The RAM (memory) helps store stuff so it's readily accessible later, speeding your computer. The hard drive speed regulates how fast you retrieve stored information. The internet card (wireless) determines how fast your computer receives its internet data.

See my other response first. To continue: Your ISP (internet service provider) makes a big difference too when it comes to the NET. A slow provider, or one that has more users than it expected, can really slow you down.

As far as your hardware:

Get a high GHZ processor, like a dual-core 2.5ghz for a laptop. And ensure it has a high bus speed.

Get 4-8 GB of RAM.

Get a 7200RPM hard drive.

Get wireless N.

Get a fast ISP.

They have not put a graphics card in the 1525 because dell wants all the gamers to purchase the m1530. The m1530 basically has the same dimensions as the 1525.

There's some truth there, but Dell has, in the past, sold many 15.4" Inspiron Notebooks with the nVidia 256 mb card. I'd have to say your logic isn't quite right. Have you held a 1525? They are thin as all heck.
