  • whats wrong with you i didnt even say any thing

  • nice..... watch this as well...

  • what is the glass inspection plate for?

  • Walk and pan slowly.

  • @WilliamGruff Guys. i shot this video over 3 years ago. Get over it.

  • @ANDREWAMTRAK: It's not us who need to get over it; we didn't make and post a shitty video.

  • the was a pretty smooth start up after sitting for a year

  • where is this located?

  • don't you people find it funny that you search for locmotive start ups and in the related videos there's a video of a lamborghini gallardo start-up....i mean i get the concept that it's a start-up vid...but other than that there are NO similarities what so ever :P somehow squeeling italian supercars just don't fascinate me as much as the nice purr of a locos diesel engine

  • this video is way to jerky hard to watch !

  • IS THIS A ALCO

  • @jayfine01 No, this is an EMD F9 with a Naturally Aspirated 16 - 567 prime mover....meaning it's a (V) 16 cylinder with 567 cubic inches per cylinder, which yields a total cylinder displacement of 9,072 cubic inches.

All the EMD prime movers are 2 cycle design....except for the H series which is a 4 cycle (like ALCO's were)

that EMD had intended to replace the 2cycle...but couldn't meet the tier 2 pollution specs. EMD is now owned by Caterpillar since Dec.2010

  • @jayfine01 Hush your mouth...This is a GM EMD ...General Motors Electro Motive Division

  • Nice placement for a toilet at 3:15... quiet, clean, private, and in no immediate danger of having your eardrums imploded...

    *sarcasm*

  • BEAUTIFUL!!! do you have a "cab view"??

  • That engine's in GOOD shape.

  • Cool subject terrible camera work. Hold it steady!

  • I've heard that this unit was a back-up locomotive for the filming of the movie "Runaway Train". Do you know anything about this?

  • @trmania This is the F unit that was used the in movie.

  • @ANDREWAMTRAK The F-Unit in the 4-engine consist was ARR 1500, so I know it can't be that one. I read something about filming on the Butte Anaconda & Pacific.

  • @trmania Nope the engine was re painted and re numbered just for the movie.

  • @ANDREWAMTRAK Can you provide proof? Everything I've seen (including the plow and the winterization hatch on the movie F-Unit, which this one does not have) indicates it's ARR 1500.

  • Need a few lessons on video recording.

  • tnx-i can see how much bigger than train`s engine.

  • Athearn's got better sound. How big is the speaker in that thing?

  • @paullubliner lol

  • Sounds like our Class66s

  • same prime mover.

  • Thank you! Does this bring back the memories of the old Northern Pacific! I remember this locomotive and all the rest of NP's that ran on the line here in Minnesota which is now the BNSF.. Great memories of these...

  • park benches in a coach? How safe is that?

  • I just love the sound of these old F units........ great vid..... thanks for sharing it.

  • V10 :D

  • These old E/F Series locomotives are the first ones I remember and my favorites of all time

  • that loco is a beauty

  • do they start those things on air??

  • No they start off the main generator

  • I thought these had a steam heat boiler at end oppostite to cab?

    Good video.

  • They only had a boiler if they were the passenger model, this one was not, even most passenger models have had their steam generators removed and replaced with head end power generators these days.

  • doesnt look like theres any space for it!!

I always liked the look of these.

  • Good old 567c engines!

  • hey did i see the "head" (toilet)?

  • yes you did but we dont use it i think we may use it again someday.

  • I was a part of BN-1 and BN-2's crew at IRM for a few seasons. These EMD F's are some of my favorites~ Was this unit repainted from BN Green? If So what was her BN Road Number?

  • Yes it was origanally painted in BN green then painted for use in the movie Runaway Train i cant rember if the original number was 838 or 338.

  • Awesome! That gives me a couple of numbers to check some rosters with. Thanks so much~

  • Yeah it was originally BN 838 i just double checked

  • How about Friends of the Northern Pacific Or maybe Railroad fans like us. Who gives a shit about you hey Loser? Well maybe your mommy does.

  • that's what i call great sounding F9 they my 2nd favorite 1st is GP38-2

  • Awesome stuff! Jason's a hater for not postin vids! hehe Just kidding dude!

  • ANDREW, thats funny how it starts out as a lawnmower sound.

And theres Jason with his big ass camera but not postin vids

  • I don't think the lawn mower sound is the loco. I've started a great many EMDs and hvae never heard a sound like that. I'm guesssing its a portable generator.

  • You are correct the lawnmower sound is the generator on our concessions car that was started to test the lighting and the bathrooms.

  • awesome!

  • I know isnt it? me, and andrew are going to be in the cab of that tommorow

  • lucky! hope you have fun.
