don't you people find it funny that you search for locmotive start ups and in the related videos there's a video of a lamborghini gallardo start-up....i mean i get the concept that it's a start-up vid...but other than that there are NO similarities what so ever :P somehow squeeling italian supercars just don't fascinate me as much as the nice purr of a locos diesel engine
@jayfine01 No, this is an EMD F9 with a Naturally Aspirated 16 - 567 prime mover....meaning it's a (V) 16 cylinder with 567 cubic inches per cylinder, which yields a total cylinder displacement of 9,072 cubic inches.
All the EMD prime movers are 2 cycle design....except for the H series which is a 4 cycle (like ALCO's were)
that EMD had intended to replace the 2cycle...but couldn't meet the tier 2 pollution specs. EMD is now owned by Caterpillar since Dec.2010
@ANDREWAMTRAK The F-Unit in the 4-engine consist was ARR 1500, so I know it can't be that one. I read something about filming on the Butte Anaconda & Pacific.
@ANDREWAMTRAK Can you provide proof? Everything I've seen (including the plow and the winterization hatch on the movie F-Unit, which this one does not have) indicates it's ARR 1500.
Thank you! Does this bring back the memories of the old Northern Pacific! I remember this locomotive and all the rest of NP's that ran on the line here in Minnesota which is now the BNSF.. Great memories of these...
They only had a boiler if they were the passenger model, this one was not, even most passenger models have had their steam generators removed and replaced with head end power generators these days.
I was a part of BN-1 and BN-2's crew at IRM for a few seasons. These EMD F's are some of my favorites~ Was this unit repainted from BN Green? If So what was her BN Road Number?
I don't think the lawn mower sound is the loco. I've started a great many EMDs and hvae never heard a sound like that. I'm guesssing its a portable generator.
whats wrong with you i didnt even say any thing

Nice placement for a toilet at 3:15... quiet, clean, private, and in no immediate danger of having your eardrums imploded...
