Volvo 'K' cam and carb replaced with fuel injection, Megasquirt controlling only fuel injection on that time, original spark.
Later replaced original Renix ignition with Bosch -139 module which was controlled by Megasquirt V1 with Extra code. That added a lot to low end torque, which in this video did not existed so it started to pull after 2500rpm.
Test was 2nd gear from idle to limiter, maybe around 8-92kph.
Renault 5 Maxi Turbo had pretty much same engine block than yours, different cylinder head, turbo and such, but still I believe it is not awfully bad if you can get hold of Alpine cylinder head.
And you can always put Clio 16 valve engine as bellhousing bolt pattern matches in those, it is much more difficult to put such powerplant to 360.
Google volvo300mania if you have not already, some good info and people there :)
Renault F7P or F7R engines should be fairly easy swaps (I believe them are 1.8).
There are more or less problems with R5 turbo route as manifolds are rather differently set and I believe that you need to replace pistons too, haven't done such job myself, only read from it.
But you can find much more from discussion board of that volvo3mania site, some project threads with F7P conversions and very helpful people, this one too watch?v=_Lu3fqmOYHU
If carb is not working perfectly (when it works? I have not seen fully working carb), then I would say it is worth the trouble. I did install standard fuel injection stuff with Megasquirt in control and car really changed after that, much better to drive and better fuel economy, so I would not hesitate to replace carb with fuel injection. Whole engine is much bigger project. Replace cam shaft after installing fuel injection and you have very nice motor for daily use.
Not much of power indeed, also below 2500rpm it does not pull too well, because of camshaft. I hope to get 150-180hp out from it or then turbo and 2xxhp but route is not clear yet ;)
What engine? :3

@jtbo Is it worth transfering a carb model to a fuel injection or throwing in a whole new engine? :P
