This is awesome. What a simple and effective method. I think that a lot of beginner course anglers need to be educated about the demise of the Eel populations, I've seen far to many killed over the years and discarded simply because they weren't classed as a course fish.
They are simple and cheap and should be installed all over the place.
What you say about killing them is true, but a few people used to take some for the pot. However, it is now illegal to kill any eel caught on rod and line. Unfortunately, the Environment Agencuy still allow comercial fishing, although it is licensed and there will be no increase. But a strange decision when it is quite obvious that rod caught eels have not been a cause of the eel's decline.
