After all the awesome features the phone has, why did it leave out the compass?

I hope soon to see an application to get direction using GPS. You need to take a couple of steps to find out direction but that would work for me.  I'll code such an app myself if I have time.

why do you need a compass?

For one thing, if the thing had a built-in compass GPS could become a lot more reliable even on walking speeds as the direction is already determined.

I need it for many reasons, one is that I pray and I need to know the direction of Mecca.

you can determine the direction just by finding where west is and follow the mecca's direction then.trust me,my family is muslim too so i know.and as far as the gps thing is concerned, ovi maps does a great job.
