I stayed at the camp pendleton lodge a couple summers ago with my dad ( an ex-marine ), and i got to see some of these things in action, fuckin gnarly, I'VE BEEN CONSIDERING A CAREER INVOLVED WITH THESE THINGS, what do you think America?
I'll be the old amtracer to say ,..ahh that big of hole is pretty easy to drive in lol,...now ya try that in 15-20 ft swells, and a opening about 1/3 that size,,,,things get a lil hairy. y.a.t.- y.a.s. 3rd assualt amphip. 1980-1986 Proud to have been a greasy, no shine on boot, trac rat.
this boat looks like an LSD....when i used to drive these things, we used to have to navigate the ramp onto an LST....wayyyyyy smaller...and the angle coming off was alot steeper, which allowed you to hit the gas and go airborn and submerge underwater for a couple of seconds....that was a blast! YAT YAS!!!!
Hell yeah! That's my platoon driving those tracks. We just back a few weeks ago. That must be the splash we did in gaum we were out in the ocean for hours But trust me, it's not really as exciting as it looks. I hope I never see that well deck again...
watching stuff like this is one of the reasons of becoming a Marine to experience stuff people will never think or experience in theyre lives. Just curious can A Marine officer (thats what i want to become) operate or train in an aav or is it just for enlisted? thx
Enlisted marines are the crewchiefs, they drive and work on the tracs. the Officers are the plt commanders. the LTs sit in the turret or behind the driver and command the other tracs where to go. but i have seen a officer drive a AAV for the hell of it. YAT YAS
Just us enlisted get to opperate them on a regular basis, but the officers in our battalion did go through a short training school to be aav officers so I think they know how to opperate one (more or less). But they don't relly get to drive them in the fleet. I let my LT. drive for a little while on patrol once (he was terrible at it) lol
Holy Crap, I didn't know we had ships like this, that are this big. We have come a long way baby. Are those wooden boxes along the sides on the inside???? Looks like they are getting wet. Thanks for posting this.
Does anyone know if the Marine Corp. has upgraded all of its LVTPs with the Bradley suspension?

It was part of a program to extend it's service life until the EFV. Now it's to extend it to nothing.
