dude, in about 200 years, everything and everyone in this world would be English Speaking American. So, what is the point of even arguing who invented the game? Besides, the Persians and the Indians also invented Chess, but Chess is considered a western game, not a persian/indian game.
Seems a bit of a stretch. In about 200 years what is now American English is about as likely to exist as Elizabethan English does now. Not all that improbable to say that the US won't exist at all by then.
English will probably make up the bulk of whatever language humans have though, mixed in with more Arabic and Chinese words I'd guess.
Only a guess though.
I reckon we'll either have blown ourselves up or become at one in the internet..
Go was originated in China during the Spring and Autemn Period, which is between 722bc to 481(perhaps even before that). Japanese people did not start playing go until AD. Go is one of the oldest Chinese culture, so you can't say that China did not have a lot of go strategies. The only thing changed is that Japanese people played go with a clean board rather than put 4 stones on the stars. In ancients times, Chinese players were better on average. Now the best player is a Korean guy.

Well by looking at the board black can't invade right, or the tops group that's separated will get attacked, and it's not depressing at all, it looks quite fun really, spending your old age playing games like that, and he probably does have shoes, they're just not shown on camera ;p
Confucian analects(论语) had recorded the game of Weichi(围棋,which was called Yi(弈) in Ancient Chinese). But Confucius despise this game.Confucius borned in BC 551,and Japan Founded in about AD 1st.
What do you mean by "develop as a game"? It has always been a game in both China and Japan. Japan simply modified it. Mahjong is another example of a Chinese game that Japan adpted and created its own variation.
it seems you know nothing about GO and its history. the original rule of GO is start with 4 stones on the board, 2 white and 2 black on the diagnal star position, then start to play. after hundreds years japanese learned the game, they changed the rule to start with an empty board, so they develop some new joseki and fuseki, but you cannot say it becomes a japanese game. if russian players develop some new joseki and fuseki, will it become a russina game? it is so ridiculous.
If you wanna know why Jpana adopted this game from China, you only need to see that Japanese name of this game is written using ancient chinese characters.
er~~ Nanosempai, I don't know what country you're from and i don't know if you have read the History of Go, but I do know something about Go myself. Let's me make thing clear. Go was originated in China, and in chinese, they had been called 围棋 (weiqi), meaning chess of capture or surrounding. You're right at some point by pointing out Japanese Go play-style is a BIT different from Chinese WeiQi's. But it doesn't change the fact that Go was first found in China.
I'm from the United States and I'm a second dan in go. Chinese playing style is hugely different from Japanese playing style. Go strategy became developed in Japan before China and although it's likely that go originated in China the only real solid evidence we have of that (that I know of) is that the oldest game records found were in China. All I was saying is that Go's origin has not been proven.
Go is Chinese because the Go board the Chinese emporer gave to Japan still exists in written documents and recent diggings found boards and stones in the tombs of some genera though the game was played somewhat differently.
I'm not familiar with the board your talking about but if a Chinese emperor gave a Go board to Japan I don't see how that proves or even really suggests that China introduced Go to Japan.
If a Chinese general played a game similar to go I don't that means that the game as we know it now is related to a Chinese game but that does not mean that the current version originated in China.
There are an inurable number of versions of chess played today but if we could somehow prove that Chinese chess is the oldest variation would it be accurate to say that the European version of Chess is Chinese? I don't think so because in actuality even though they are related and have similarities they are still two seperate games.
Also, the rule of komi in go which is now universally used everywhere was a Japanese development.
I think it is most accurate to describe Go as being an asian game because it is primarily well known and played in East Asian countries.
Really the only reason I replied to you the first time was because based on the context of your comment I thought you might be saying that it is odd to see Japanese people playing Go because Go is a Chinese game and I wanted to point out that go is something well known and played among Japanese people. I really was not trying to say much about historic origin
atari is when a stone or group of stones only has one free adjacent intersection meaning that a play there by the opponent will capture the stones in question. You do not have to say atari, and doing so is pointlessly helping your opponent.
Keep in mind that Atari can be both negligible and completely table-turningly important. There's the kind of Atari where only one stone is threatened, then there's the kind of Atari where a whole group is threatened, as seen in A Beautiful Mind.
yeah...when i first started GO it was so hard and i didn't know what to do at first xD then i got the hang of it...its quite fun, any body of age should play it ^^
OH man! i jus when to this hobby shop today on yonge street and they ahd aGO board and everything so ibought itand now that i know how to play it a bit i think it was WELL worth buying it! lol they r holding the stones a diffrent way then in the GO manga ^^ but still it was a good video i wish sm 1 would post vids of GO games ^^
Also, the level of game that they are playing at is poor, white is behind by about 50 moku, and will not be able to catch up. It is only because whites territory in the center is not protected from black's center group. Also, black could easily live at the bottom of the board and take away a good 30 moku from white
I was just having fun watching them play, but I did stay till the end and they said that white won. Though I don't know how to play, I just liked the fact that these eldery Japanese people know how to have fun. By keeping their minds active, many Okinawans live to be healthy in their 90's! It's so awesome how "genki" they are.
@hikaruUSA lol, no way, black has barely 40 points (less acually) how can he be winning by 50? XD besides white has some 36 SAFE points meaning with komi he is winning already, plus I really dont see how black could live at bottom, and definitely not easily, white is too strong around so white is likely to get some 20 pts in the area if not kill it getting 40 plus points. it's a won game for WHITE. the center group threatens to destroy some points but I didnt count them so it's all good for w
@hikaruUSA ok maybe he'll get a bit more than 40 maybe (less than 50 though I guess) still b has no good continuation w has an overwhelming wall-if b ties to live- 60 more points if b sacrifies. well from this perspective it does seem w plays a stupid reduction instead of a monkey jump which is much bigger but I cant read with the stones placed like thgat :P probably w ends in sente there.
@MakotoShishio5 that is true in aga rules but there are japanese rule set chinese swedish ect ect they all count diff so before you try to insult someone about not knowing maybe you should look at how much you know about it yourself =D
