When you watch the first fight with Royce it was a massive arena all the Gracie family was there inc Helio and there was a bit of emotion there was some significance. It's a testament to how great a fighter Sakuraba is against Brazilian JiuJitsu fighters that when I heard Ralek won, my reaction was complete shock.

"Sakuraba? Lose to a Gracie? How can this be?" Saku solidified his dominance over BJJ by beating all the other Gracies, along with all the other BJJ'ers he faced.

Ralek won back some family pride here for the defeated Gracies.

Though, Sakuraba is about 10 years past his prime now, and also fighting with spinal damage. Gotta give him props.

The ref' s interference made Ralek push his other leg to reverse Sakuraba.Some said Ralek had a double butterfly but that is ridiculous. He does not have a leverage. It is not a guaranteed Kimura but he got a hold of it. I cannot say he can secure it it is is not that weak either. You can't secure that lock easily but Saku had it entangled. I don't see wht=y others can't see it. I just commented after seeing a sensible comment here.

Before the interference Ralek had moved his hips outside the hand of the threatened arm and had posted his other arm under Sakuraba's leg on the far side. That's what gave him the position well before the ref's interference. There is no way it could have been finished from there. Sakuraba was the one with no leverage in that position.

Yeah good point. I'll look again to the video. I really think the possibility to finish the Kimura before the ref's intfr is far from being complete but I think after the ref's intfr gave some advantage to Ralek to escape rather advantage to Saku though he has moved to the side.

You have to have your hips down to have the leverage to apply that. He was on his way to being flipped over and armbarred before the ref did anything. Ralek deserves a lot of respect for that fight.

Barely anybody thought that he could beat Kazushi, who is considered to be the Gracie clans archrival.

The part of the fight you see here is the end. Ralek clearly outpointed Kazushi in the first two rounds. The Kimura (initially form guard) was Kazushis last chance to change the result of the fight. Sadly the referee intervenend and gave Ralek time to work out of the hold. It mitigates Ralek great effort and success a little.

when the ref starts messing with raleks shorts, saku had raleks arm away from his body, which is a very crucial position that is advantageous to saku...then the ref stops saku's submission attempt to fix raleks shorts (which is the dumbest move i ever seen)...the ref tells them to resume fighting and raleks arm is closer to his torso. this is a huge advantage to ralek because he has a better defensive position than before. the ref fucked it up for saku no doubt...

first of all, the Cage is too small for them, secoundly, theres no win or lose when it comes to this type of fight unless you submit the oppornent. Saku knows that and so does Ralek. its about who lock the oppornet at the end. Ralek was lucky that it was in the cage though.
