  • Nice solo, really musical.

  • 77 people are hairdresser.

  • Wow... I suck.

  • @jaredrums693 definitely is john riley.

  • @ryansewardmusic Exactly. I mainly said it like that considering all the know it all douchebags who would talk shit saying I'm wrong lol. I saw him and spoke to him at the indianapolis airport in early october. great guy.

  • sounds awesome, bro. I didn't like it before, but now I really like it and I can hear the phrasing

  • his feet have better chops than my hands

  • @afunkybeat dude yea thats how it is with me too. hes a boss

  • is the guy in the back trying to hypnotize him or what...

  • @ScrewVev0 Seems like a Peeping Tom.

  • imagine if he played in journey now XD

  • what remo head is he using for his primary snare?

  • @joeyv1111 looks like Remo Fiberskyn to me.

  • THUMBS UP FOR STEVE BEING EYEFUCKED BY THE DUDE IN THE CHAIR!!

  • How the heck does he do that fast a buzz roll with one hand. Must have practiced until he had sleep deprovation….

  • Best SS solo I ve heard. Awesome sounding drums btw.

  • The 76 dislikers are 76 account of the man near steve ahahahahah

  • why does he play with his snare tilted forward? just curious? ive never seen anyone play like that before

  • @reedeedeeify A lot of guys before his time played with the snare tilted in like that Buddy Rich,Krupa, etc.

It's to help them play traditional grip more accurate when they hit both the rim and the head of the snare.

  • one: i need a new pair of pants 2: i am a beliver 3: bacon

  • Those 75 people don't know that he had already play 16 notes just using the time that they click the dislike botton.

  • he plays soo calm how does hee doo it i shrivel wen i play sometime s lol

    beutifal

  • His drums sound amazing! How much would a sonor ( SQ2?) set like that cost me? :)

  • @argusauge33 close to $9000

  • what happend to the old fashioned drum pattern... i dislike this showcase stuff .. i'm into bernard purdie kind of drumming

  • That guy watching him is no slouch either ( John Riley ).

  • 74 people thought this was edited

  • 74 people are deaf

  • Sounds like blast beats to me....

  • Chris Hansen? Why is he watching Steve f*** the heck out of that drumset?

  • one audience member...are times really that tough?

  • For the people thinking this is even remotely easy, he's playing division of 5 with his left hand.

  • shit

  • a kid in high school told me he was as good as steve smith what crap

  • During a rainout in Philadelphia he let me visit with vital information in their trailer, he an his wife are two of the nicest people you will ever meet.

  • Journey's drummer back in the day... just sayin

  • 74 people clicked the wrong button.

  • What a Legend!!!!

  • good

  • Like A Boss!

  • Anyone else weirded out by the dude staring at him the whole time?

  • He is insane!

  • H.A.R.D.C.O.R.E.

  • i truly love the fact that john riley is just sitting and watching, being his normal awesome/stoic self

  • I really wonder what John Riley is thinking

  • 74 people, however much I hate to say it, did not enjoy this video. Quit with the cliche comments people. It's fucking annoying.

  • 74 people didn´t even have an idea of what this guy played here

  • @damianquadro I agree!!! People are just so ignorant to quality players. They would say that Neil Peart is better than Steve! Stupid!!!!

  • @dtdrummerlady Oh so true I started watching steve back in the day when he had hair!!

  • @dtdrummerlady I agree with you, Steve is a great player. However, i think it's not worth it to spend the time discussing which drummer is best. But in this case, Steve is just playing rudiments all the time. Neil Peart, instead, tries to make music when soloing, not just rudiments...

  • @deaconspecial Ok, do you and everyone else realize that this was not intended to be a musical solo? This is a solo that Steve wrote a while back, and it mainly deals with polyrhythmic playing; it doesn't have to be musical.

  • @deaconspecial Take note this is just one solo Steve can be just as musical as Neil. From what I see the average listener might not understand what they hear.

I mean Steve did play for Journey musicality is required at all times to play with bands IMO.

  • @Moog168 it's ok, i understand that all these drummers we're talking about are really good musicians. I was just trying to comment this specific vid.

  • Ridiculous. So vastly underrated, even in the drum community.

  • One of the most underrated drummers out there. When people think of the greats, unless they really know they're drumming (or are a Journey fan) they rarely mention Steve, but quite frankly, he's up there with the Bonhams and the Pearts and the Moons.

  • @MrHeitz17 I'm ready to say that Steve Smith's technicality is beyond that of Bonham and Peart. This guy has serious worked the hell out of his drumming. I'm paying MUCH more attention to him now.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX You're right. I amend my previous statement to:

    "Best. Drummer. Ever."

  • lol gravity blasts ftw

  • @Mooning2314 That's freehand. Gravity blasting implies a blast, or the freehand being applied within the context of a blast :3

  • great solo.

  • Best drummer in the world . You are my biggest influence. Most educated drummer of all .

  • @ShaneSmithDrums

You have stil and a philosophie of fat sounding drums

  • 74 dislikes?? He is one of the best in the world for sure, he can play anything.

  • @bassmanjoe They only dislike it because A) they can't play it now. B) They'll never be able to play it. C) All of the above!

  • @MikeMiheli C) All of the above!

  • @bassmanjoe you know, this has been watched over A MILLION times, 77 people might have pressed it by accident...

  • Steve Smith=One of the greatest drummers of all times.....period

  • He a machine.

  • The guy staring scares me

  • @PaulWallification hahaha thats just Jim Riley

  • could have done without "ol teach watching like a pedophile.

  • Is Neil Schon hoping for Steve's demise? Then he would be the best thing that came out of Jouney.

  • It is amazing to me that there are 73 total douche bags that dislike this. I'm sure that they all claim they can do this solo better............. what a bunch of morons.

  • what the hell???? he's a drum machine man wow ... wow

  • No one can do it like Steve! He is so technically sound!

  • steve.get a haircut.

  • "That guy watching SS" = great jazz drummer John Riley; but yeah, it does seem to appear to be a strange, blank, or perhaps even pissy expression ;) It does look a little awkward.

  • Just Stunning!

  • What skins is he using??? i need them asap. D:

  • @1996Dalli All Remo heads...fiberskyn on the snare and, I believe, clear Ambassadors on the toms.

  • He's been practicing!

  • i am a starter,but i dont think i will evaaar beat this guy!

  • i thint i just had on of those ear orgasm

  • is he doing doubles on his feet while doing all that with his hands?! see thats just not fair!

  • The guy watching Smith pisses me off

  • One of the greatest underrated drummers around!

  • I love this solo! Steve Smith is great!

I Especially liked John Riley sitting in the back haha that guy is godlike.

  • I'm not usually a fan of double bass drumming biut I LOVE the little double bass bit at 1:01 :)

  • And BAM!!! random guy sitting in a chair 0.07..

  • Is that Chris Hansen watching him? Are they on Dateline? Did Chris tell Steve to have a seat? If he did then they probably let him go because he did not try to rape those drums, the drums let him fuck them and they were fucked well, with great technique and control and out came great sounds

  • That 16" sounds like a beast!

  • Wow, now I remember why I love Steve Smith!

    Awesome.........of course!

  • 奥でガン見してるのなにwww

  • Steve could be in a band of any genre as it looks from this solo... Hell, I wouldn't doubt it if he could blow us away on a single hand drum.

  • this mother fucker is a bad ass

  • blast beats ;D

  • I'm seeing him in November :)

  • That dude sitting there Creeps me out! he looks familiar though...who is it?

  • That's John Riley. Great jazz drummer & teacher. He acts as a sort of interviewer through out this DVD pulling the right info out of Steve.

  • boring !!!!:(

  • @gershom16 What, your comment or the vid?

  • Syncronous, and asyncronous all at the same time. I CAN'T HANDLE IT. :P That was fscking beautiful. So was the sound with earbuds.

What an opportunity. To listen and watch a drummer of this caliber play a solo is amazing.

    Cheers.

  • this guy is possessed lol hes so good

  • The guy watching is so jealous lol

  • You should listen to this with headphones. Phenomenal sound!!!

  • That was fun to listen to! I'm gonna listen again : )

  • at 0:56 his right hand. what is this technique's name ?

  • @BOSONOVACI That is called a gravity blast where you used the rim on the drum as a pivot point.

  • @BOSONOVACI it's called a one handed roll, look it up on youtube, and watch Jojo Mayers lesson! He explains it very well

  • Thumbs Up if like Steve's haircut ! ! ! :P

  • I think Matt Halpern and Steve Smith should battle it out :D

  • @ned2one do you honestly think Halpern could hold a candle to steve smith ? :D I have a lot of respect for Matt but this guy's in a different league.

  • @paucceri i just thought it wud be cool too see them combine their amazingness together in an all out battle :D

  • okay, is it just me or is this guy's flow week! i mean really! thumbs up if you agree!

  • this part is crazy !!! 1:09 to 1:17

  • Joey better <3

  • Thats what I call... Born to drum.

  • dont even bother finding that rodrub dude's "drum solo"...its not good enough to matter, and not bad enough to waste the time on.

  • Sonor Delite ? Beautiful solo for a beautiful drum set !

  • PORCO GIUDA COME VA QUESTO!!!! O_O

  • this guy he is awesome drummer and also check out tony roster jr

    that was amazing!

  • I remenber you Steve, it was 10 years ago you 've played for drumtech student, it's was pretty cool guy! Congrtulation again!

    Friendly

  • Oh fuck.

Now i gotta find that rodrub12's comment.

  • i'm really not sure how the dude watching can possibly keep a straight face...

  • Looks like he's been studying Jo Jo Mayer. He's probably as good in his own right, but this has never been Steve's style of playing. This is a whole feel for him, and he's doing it well.

  • If Death's Chuck could see him, he would cry... Great...

  • 70 people think that a drumstick is chicken.

  • With John Riley just chillin, haha. This is quite good.

  • fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. I've never seen this guy before but technically that was insane.

  • omg how did he do that in 0:52

  • @damp3110 its called a gravity blast

  • @evilash1996

haha, he's not playing death metal. it's called a fulcrum roll

  • @evilash1996 we call it freehand.. gravity blast is again a metal related word for a technique

  • 1:13

  • 4 way independence on it's own is amazing...

    then there is steve smith

  • HES PLAYING IN SHOES!

  • No matter how many times i see this video, I always double look at the title cause I think that it says Kanye West....lol amazing solo though...

  • girl: wanna have sex

    guy: yes

  • that floor tom 16" sounds like great freaking sex!! :D

  • What a loser he only blew my mind like 7 times XD im so jelous why cant i have hands that came from a v12 engine?

  • I know it's extremely complicated and all, but it just sounds like a bunch of noise.

  • If you all do not realize how amazing Steve is.....you have no idea.

  • Thumbs up if you can agree one of the best drummers today.

  • That dude sitting in the corner looks like a goober. They always ruin these drum videos by having some douche sitting in the corner watching.

  • @FIXERCHEMISTRY2 you're such a looser man... That is JOHN RILEY one of the best teachers for jazz drumming ever lived on this planet... I'm sure Steve is honored to have him there. And Steve is indeed a master drummer himself! go get a life...
