topeak makes a rocket mini bicycle pump, thing is like 4 inches long. you think the blackburn one takes forever? pump a bicycle tire to 100 psi with that thing
@klrbiker My partner in crime has a 97 I think...his uses glass too...he mentioned that I should check...and mine actually uses the larger blade type..and not the small ATM fuses that I showed....Which I have a whole box full of as well, I'll throw the atm style in the bag, you never know when you might meet a fellow biker who might need what you have..
@BrianWest58 Thanks Brian....I have the room to carry it, otherwise, I would prioritize, and eliminate ... My rationalization is....if you were broke down on your bike in the middle of nowhere...you would be damn happy to see us if we roll your way hahaha
Ok, so now that I'm done pissing about - serious question - do you and Tracey co-ordinate who takes what on you journey? Example: do you really need that much electrical tape? Probably not, so only one of you should carry that?
@YarekBalear It depends, we live 480 miles apart...some rides, for logistic purposes, we have to split off from one another...and we usually carry everything redundant for that solo portion..
@YarekBalear Haha, that's not the first comment I've gotten about that...I have a large basement and a shed behind my house...it helps organize alot of the clutter..
@rightinthefriggineye Good lord you have good eyes!...its actually the CRKT M21...Which I think is exactly the same as the M16, just a lil bit bigger.
@billmaa The eyes aren't that good, I was off. But i should have guessed... As a man, when you have severely limited pannier space... you NEED to take the bigger knife.
Man we didn't prepare nearly that well for our Europe trip. That said, we had new bikes and were on road. Nice list, can't wait to compare camping ideas.
Wd40 displaces water, loosens tight bolts, chain lube, bug gut remover on bike, flame thrower with a match. What's not to like? Good video to at least help others get started
My dad always liked to say, "It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it." With that said, I think you are going to need a uhaul for all that stuff!
@ROKKIT44 There are things in my BWOM packing kit that I've had since 2004....that have never been used...but with that said, doing what we do I can probably list at least 100 times when I've said, "I didn't see that coming" some good, some bad....The point of this is, your Dad is a smart man hahah..
Very nice, very interesting video, my friend! And I suppose that exposure to nt8 would cause you to pack so much. It's not a bad idea, really, especially with a KLR. I took nothing but cameras and clothing on my Canada trip, and had no problems. In fact, a little nuisance was automatically fixed by my BMW. You do realize that this is a jab at you know who, don't you? He asked for it.....
@really2ugly Hahah, riding perfect Canadian highways is not the same as riding the Dalton my friend...20 miles on the infamous Dalton would rattle that overly complicated/overly engineered German spaceship you call a motorcycle to it's last lil servo and automated helper gizmo... Wouldn't wanna hurt the resale value would we? Hahaha a BMW riders kryptonite. But NT8 isn't much better...he has so much packed on his bike, I'm sure he has a blow up "lover" in there somewheres. Take care Jef
@billmaa We do! This has been a bad year. First the weather, then the floods, then we lost FH5, then I took off, then nt8 took off, now you take off (hopefully the heat will subside by then,) We need to to plan better next year!
Have a great trip. Know that you and Tracy will be in my prayers for a safe trip! And I hope to be able to see you off!
Do you give the name and model of your tent in the next video? If not, would you mind sticking it in the description. It looks pretty compact. Isn't it your birthday tomorrow? Hope it's a great one mate.
@advancedo This is kinda a tutorial video...so I leave everything in the package so folks know what it looks like when wanting to buy it themselves...most I pull out of the package, cept for the JB weld and the batteries...for both pieces have to be together or they're useless hahaha...
@cjhurrell Awesome idea...These were scanned and printed on my laptop, which is coming with me...so I have a e copy...but I like the idea of being able to access it from any computer...that's a bad ass tip..
Geardo: Someone, usually in service in the military, who possesses and packs unnecessary amounts of gear because they think it's cool.
Billmaa: An individual who logically uses/packs gear for good reason. Knowledgeable and helpful - common sense is applied thoroughly, like duck tape.
Know the differences people, the Geardo is an inferior species to the wild Billmaa and should never be listened to. (disclaimer: references made to military service obtained from person service experience)
Yes, its great to carry a complete set of tools and stuff. You might want to add a little electric air pump instead of the bicycle pump. I want to see how all of that goes into the bag. I believe you when you say it will, but it would be interesting to see what goes where.
Were those heavy duty tubes? You know they will NOT hold a patch for more than a few hours. I use the standard duty for this reason.
@dahveed284 I wouldn't have a way to power the air pump...I'll make a video in a bit on where all the stuff goes in the bag...I have a tool tube on the rear rack that will hold a few of these things...my tent/sleeping bag go in the dry bags and my flashlight/mulitool/face shield cleaner go in my tank bag for quick access...but everything else will go in that bag...They are standard duty tubes
@Guybrush1816351 I know I know, a clip is used to feed a magazine... I blame the bad terminology on watching too many crappy action movies =) I cringe the same way when people interchange "engine" and "motor"
@billmaa Well i forgive you for now :P, motor is a correct term in my language, we dont have a word like engine :) so een motorfiets heeft een verbrandingsmotor ( a motor(bi)cycle has a internal combustion engine)
why not use a co2 bike pump? I don't even have that style pump for bikes anymore since I can take a c02 pump and 3 extra co2 deals and a tube under my bike seat in a tiny bag... heck when I used to mnt bike ride I had one trip I lost a tube and no biggie I had a spare then a few miles later my other tube had a slow leak so I used electrical tape :) got me home... trick was wraping the tube with it aired up then let air out and install and pray..
@daddyoca69 I'll have to plead simple ignorance on this one...I have a CO2 cartridge style in my tubeless radial repair kit. I've never had to use it, so my only honest experience with CO2 cartridges is with pellet guns...and I think being on the Dalton is not the time for me to learn something new hahaha, My personal thought is I would rather sacrifice a bit of elbow grease for the piece of mind of an almost limitless supply of tire pressure =) I guess I do have the room for both hehe
no rear brake lever? i don't know much but that can break off right? i've heard about throttle cables and bike cables in general, don't know about that either..
@pedroaguiaromundo The rear brake lever can break off, but the way its situated, it is much more likely to simply bend..The thing is, unless you are descending some crazy off road trails, you can get by perfectly without rear brakes all together or definitely to the next dealership...I do have a spare throttle cable...I simply forgot to get it out for this video (I also forgot to mention a tap and die kit)
