My CMMG which is all milspec as well and are actually a very high quality manufacturer, anyways back on subject, the upper reciever itself is a key hole but it is funky looking lol it is like a chopped keyhole. Not sure what that means but It's a 14 inch 1/7 Chrome Moly vanadium steel barrel with the hard chrome lining. And the vortex is pinned and welded to make 16 and it came with a Midwest Industries quad rail and Yankee hill machinery rear BUIS all for around 950 (estimated.) Great vid!
Also just to let you know the f on the sight means that it was forged and not cast. The key hole stamp shows that it is forged also. Unless it is super super high end like a totally machined upper like a Next Gen they will all have that. I am an AR maniac. I am not trying to knock your review just letting you know.
I am new to AR15 ownership. I used the M16 in the army as well as the M249, so I know how to operate them and basic maintenance. With the way this retarded government of ours is going I am making it a priority to learn more about the weapon system and perhaps some minor gun smithing. No offense taken, I know I am still learning. Thanks for the info.
Cool man if you have any questions about anything with M4 style rifles let me know. I work at a class 3 ffl and handle/ work on them all day. What you need to do is get that bad boy ceramic coated and the interior micro slicked. Its a pretty new coating process but it makes them AK reliable and cuts cleaning time down to 15 min with a rag. You should check that out. Also look at hydraulic buffer tubes and command arms is going out of business so all there really good stuff is on sale.
Well its actually called a hydraulic enindine buffer. Its kinda the same principal as the gas piston thing on on office chair, well kinda. It makes for faster follow up shots and less wear on your bolt carrier. The standard spring slams the carrier group and the only thing that stops it is metal. The hydraulic buffer has perfect stopping point thousands of an inch before it slaps your upper internals. Bottom line 120 bucks or less and it is in my opinion a must have. Springs are outdated.
Micro Slick is a solid film lubricant designed to withstand high temperatures and extreme pressures. This coating lubricates, acts as an anti-seize agent while preventing galvanic corrosion, and resists wear.Micro Slick's formulation prevents surface-to-surface contact, thus reducing friction and wear between mating surfaces. The exceptionally low resistance to shear of Micro Slick enables surfaces to operate with extremely low friction. Its should only be 100-150 for all your internals.
@errorswe2 The FFL was required on mine because the lower was in the package and the lower is the serial numbered part. You may have to check your local laws about gun parts, but in AZ you can buy the Uppers all you want, because it is considered an accessory not a gun. The lower, being the serial numbered part is the one that is regulated. I could have 20, 16+ inch, uppers and one lower and I would still only have one gun.
The F marked FSB is forged, but the ones marked F are .750" taller for flat toped recievers. The key hole mark on the reciever is from the Cerro Forge. There are about 25 or so companys that forge recievers.
The full auto bolt is nice to have because they usually are stronger, just a little more durable. If full auto ever becomes legal than just drop in a full auto sear and a couple other things and your ready to go. I am surprised you didn't get a nice noveske quad rail with your purchase. Anyways nice upper/ rifle. Noveske barrels last over 20,000 rounds so you got a good one.
He got an auto carrier. The difference isn't the bolt (it's MP tested so its GTG), it's the carrier. The auto carrier has more material on the bottom rear section = more weight. This is the part that trips the auto sear.
I was going to get a complete Del-ton kit for a lower I already had for the price of just the Noveske upper, but when the free lower deal came along, I just couldnt pass it up. With the Law enforcement discount it all came to about $850.00 + the $35.00 FFl transfer fee from the gun store.
Looks good man! I just picked up a new N4 and received my 'free' lower. I did not get the fire breathing pig decal in my box so I'm somewhat upset about that :(
how much was the complete upper?

@rsxtypes06usdm
I think it was between $7-800 for military/LE pricing. It will be more if you get the pop up rear sight

Why is the hydraulic buffer better. Isn't it just another thing that can go wrong? What does micro slicked do and is it expensive?

The F on the front sight base denotes it compatibility with flat top uppers...
