Northern Dancer only ran one more race after the Belmont. He began to develop tendonitis in his left leg and retired after the running and winning the Queens Plate in Canada. It may have been bothering him here and could be the reason he didn't run a better race.
Didn't stay. You could see in the first two legs that he would struggle at the mile and a half. Ridden like he'd get two miles though by whatever moron is riding him.
Interesting to see the horses start at the far turn due to the fact that Aqueduct is shorter. You wonder if Northern Dancer might have won if the race had but run at Belmont instead of Aqueduct.
That is an interesting point you never know... Maybe he would have won had it been run at Belmont Park. I also thought it was cool to see the race start on the turn, maybe that did effect his performance. Thanyou for the input..
No problem! Cappy has to be my favorite, along with Chic Anderson. Northern Dancer was a great horse, too bad he didnt win, it seemed like 1948-1964 was a long Triple Crown Drought back then, they had no clue what the horse racing fans of today are going through. oh well, maybe next year...

This is fantastic footage. It's great to hear Cappy from start to finish; I've always liked his style.
Heartbreaking that Northern Dancer couldn't quite pull off the Triple Crown, but he sure was a tough little horse.
Many thanks for posting this!
