she may of not been down as far as growing up in the streets but to me it comes down to this -she had straight talent and can flow as good as the best ,to be reconized by the greats like South Central Cartel ,Spice 1, Ant Banks, Treach, Eazy E ,I think she has earned her street credit and learned from the real because real reconizes real
this song is around the same time of Spice 1's R.I.P. so it might of been sampled _i have to say 100x better than anything on now. wish there was more real rap like this today :(

This is some real ass shit! Finally found this song. Good looks on the upload. And Im sure she would have put 98% of female rappers to bed at that time as well!
if she was fake..what does it really matter..cause nowdays it's obvious as hell to see the rappers aint nothin what they talk about but people just let it slide nowdays..but back then the popular rappers wasn't even what they talked about..boss just got exposed in the wrong era
Im telling yall, Aaliyah was HEAVILY influenced by this chick. When Aaliyah first came out, me and my cousins were like "she looks like the girl from the Onyx slam video".
Lichelle Laws only had brief popularity in 1993. She wasn't really into the gangster lifestyle but she was rather adopting a character to describe the inner city life. =)
@5216403 Yo, I'm a white dude from the burbs in Ohio and I repped Boss back in the day, still have this tune on my MP3. Wether or not she is a studio gangster, she's so gangsta bitch in this video! Classic gansta rap tune, she'll always be remembered for this song. Peace and respect

wow, people now realizing half these rappers don't live the life they portray in their songs ?
only real gangsta rapper i bet is DMX!
even 2pac & biggie was not born into that life. they wanted to live that life. 2pac was a A+ student and biggie was a mother-boy that got everything he wanted most the time. somewhere down the line they got brain-washed. mainly because the girls wanted a badboy type of dude.
only rapper that was born into that street-shit is DMX! that i know of btw.
@hennylo68 one of the best? are you young and dont know better? she only made this album and that was it! then they found out she was from an upper class family and went to private schools and never was in the streets kinda like vanilla ice but since was white they made a big deal of it but she did the same exact shit
@cleancutt2001 Yes true but regardless of that fact she was mad nice on the mic. Having one album isn't a discredit seeing as the lack of female mc,s i the game.
@cleancutt2001 I don't get why people diss BOSS for going to private school. @MiasmaBlack actually boss dissed her self by portraying she was something she wasnt when vanilla did it it was a big deal well thats because he was white when boss did the same exact thing it was hush hush even when hammer tried to get gangsta on pumps in the bump that got swept under the table quietly but cuz vanilla ice was white they really jumped on his shit that should be fucked in your book too but it probably isnt
@cleancutt2001 I agree totally that i's screwed up to diss Vanilla jus case he's white but in all actuality 95% of the artist have not lived the lives they potray in their music. It's foolish to think they have.
@cleancutt2001 a lot of so-called real niggaz today is bitin' her style. i guess they to are fake if that's the case, and i'll bet they are your favorite right now. holla back. los s.c. 29010

@cleancutt2001 I doubt if she didn't write her own rhymes. Shout out to Heather b cause she is a true mc, but boss is mad nice. Brings back memories. Too bad she came out when selling out was not excepted. Catholic girl gone gangsta didn't work back then. Wonder where she is now!
This was a great album. Very raw and gangsta. Which was unusual for female rappers during that time. Being hard was the only way she could get a record deal is what I heard. The production on Born Gangsta was great also. I do wonder where is she is now.
Peep the scene...March 93 flying down the West Side Parkway in a Black on Black MPV wit da 20" Black & Chrome BBS's.. blazing a PHAT 1 banging dis joint right HERE..DAMN...younger years were something else...
Every Rap artist doesn't have to be from the hood. Hell probably more successful rap artist arent from the hood! i see nothing wrong with that. Most of the old schollers were from well off families. Run DMC, Heavy D, salt n pepa, Mc lyte, LL, Kool Moe, Sugarhill...etc. All these cats were from the burbs! LOL!! And many many more! It's all good!!!!
But notice that none of those artists you listed ever called themselves
gangstas, nor have they ever been called gangsta rappers. My point was, how are you going to call yourself a Gangsta when you grew up in the Suburbs and attended private school? People took what Boss was trying to do too serious. She was merely exposing the "studio gangstas" - the ones who actually believed their own lyrics. Boss openly admitted she was from the Burbs. People need to stop saying that she was exposed.
She was EXPOSED. But we really don't know if it was her fault. Because artists do not have control over their image sometimes. Pink didn't when she dropped her first album. They can tell you how to dress, what to say, and etc. If she didn't own that label she aint have much control with her debut album. And being from the burbs doesn't mean much depending on how you're affiliated. There are people with family's that come from a church upbringing and still manage to fall into illegal shit.
The problem I have with the word EXPOSED is that it implies that she was trying to HIDE the fact that she was not a real "gangsta". Yeah some guy ran a story that "prooved" that Boss was a studio gangsta. But she never said that she wasn't! That's just like prooving Shaq is tall! True enough growing up in the burbs does not make you immune to illegal shit. But if you come from the burbs claiming to be a true "gangsta" you are going to end up looking like J. Kennedy in "Malibu's Most Wanted".
Boss was never really "exposed" because she really wasn't trying to hide the fact that she was a "studio gangsta". There are a couple of skits on the album where her mom leaves her a voice message saying that Boss grew up in the Suburbs and went to a nice Catholic school. Boss just saw the increasing popularity of "gangsta rap" and decided to show the world just how talented she was and produced a few classics in the process..."I see yo' ass next week. Peace!"
what happened was her cover was blown...she was actually a Wall Street executive performing as a gangsta rapper. But her album is a classic, I dont care if Whoopi Goldberg was doing the vocals
who do they sample from in the raggae part

Brings back memories. Too bad she came out when selling out was not excepted. Catholic girl gone gangsta didn't work back then. Wonder where she is now!

This was a great album. Very raw and gangsta. Which was unusual for female rappers during that time. Being hard was the only way she could get a record deal is what I heard. The production on Born Gangsta was great also. I do wonder where is she is now.

Peace!"
