@Dunntosh um, i am in dance and we are doing Ballet at the moment and for our Chainees we start with our arms in third and our right pointed toe in front then we step, open our arms to 2nd and spin on relevai ( i am not exactly sure how to spell this :/) with our arms in first and yes we spot, but the thing is we do it like diagonaly across the floor not sideways or forward.
Eileen O'Brien: "those are beautiful chainees." Well, she's lying, isn't she? I honestly think she wouldn't know a chainee if it came up and bit her on her ass.
Okay, last time I took ballet lessons was when I was 7, and even I can tell you this was bad. She has freaking hitchhiker thumbs in her second positon! You're a ballerina, not a scruffy hobo looking for a ride!
@girlsdancers4 NO NO NO Dont do this theys turns youre feet need to be glued together at all time and you're arms stay in first all the time.... Please do NOT take this video and try to do it its not the right way.
I like how when she's only doing the positions she has to really think about it. It looks like she's thinking so much she might pop a blood vessel. Not to mention she doesn't ever plie
and how about the leg ? so en dedans ....and I dont understand why u put this all videos ?? ok I do respect that you tech and talk right ..that how has to be but at least maybe some body can dance bit better and would be good to see that ..
god, are u all serious? if u don't no anything bout ballet stop commenting. THESE ARE CHAINEES. there's not just one way to do them, u can leave ur arms in first or slowly close them while turning or u can open and close them like presented in the video. that's because there are french, italian, russian...etc ways of teaching and not just one!
u had just one class before doing chainees? ur right that's way to early. on my academy the girls have to stay a la barre for a long time before starting turning stuff in the middle of the room. they do piqué and echappé and then slowly start with piqué turns and so on. what a school is that ur attending?
@Juventina1005 Dance loft plus, there is only one pointe class at my school and most of the girls in my class had been taking pointe for 4 or 5 years. i guess my teacher didnt want my to just sit around and do nothing.
no offense, but that doesnt help you anyway. its not the right reason for trying out things which are designed for more advanced students. its even more dangerous cuz your ankles and joints are not strong enough when u just started and u could easily hurt your feet. i really dont wanna talk ur teacher down, but maybe u should give yourself more time and only do what u consider right and suitable regarding ur skills. ;-)
My chainees are kinda like that, 'cause my teacher is crappy, but isn't this one supposed to be an expert? And aren't the arms supposed to be in first all the time?
i have actually been taught both..to turn with legs in first or with the thighs squeezed together but second position is NEVER involved! also, in variations you will find that chaines are fast and if you keep opening and closing your arms they will only slow you down. Keeping them closed with your fingertips touching is the best way to keep your center..which she clearly does not have at all.
I find it rather amusing that most of the negative comments come from people who can't spell. Seriously.
She is NOT too fat to dance. Being anorexic does not make you a better or more competent dancer.
If watching "shitty" videos all day and picking other people apart is your source of entertainment, I suggest you volunteer at a dance studio for the underprivileged to better use your free time. And, maybe, get someone else to critique your ballet skills besides your mommy.
O my...turn out the feet, spot better, lower your first position hands. Try learning ballet in a proper dance school. If this teacher cannot see that your basics are wrong, then you should be learning elsewhere.
3. The legs should be in a third or fifth position with the centre of your 'core' (torso, head and abdominals) balanced over the legs, although they can be performed in first (rare circumstances).
However, this could be a different syllabus, although I highly doubt there are syllibi out there doing chainees like that. I could be wrong though.
chaine turns need to keep arms in first and your feet need to be right underneath each other with straight legs...not stepping in second and opening in second!
shouldnt she mention spotting. i mean thts kinda important too so u wont get all dizzy and fall over lol. i think she mentions it once wen she says "shes keeping her eyes in 1 place" but she culd formally explain since this is 4 begginners. nothing wrong w/ makin a video a little longer
these are not chainees they are more like soutenu en tournants doing them like this will allow you to go as fast as she is going in the video and barely any faster.
I think you all needs to stop critcizing this video...everybody don't do everything the same way...why don't you put a video on youtube and show them what you got.
you are not suppose to turn either foot in either, her leading foot turns in every time... wrong wrong wrong, always in first, what is going on, I haven't found one "Expertville" that teaches correct tech.... this is mortifiing!
For god's shake!!!!!! There is not a second position when you are doing tour chaines!!!!!!! Legs are always in first position!!! Quit destroying these young kids!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I respectfully disagree. There are people who use youtube whose first language is not English and they make a big effort to use correct grammar and spelling. If they make mistakes, it has nothing to do with their intelligence or level of education. Anyway, a person's grammar and spelling capabilities are not directly related to their knowledge of the dance field. I don't think I'm the best dancer there ever was, but I think teaching like this is not a very good idea.
yeah i agree dis is bad and shes all stiff&ungraceful but its 4 begginners goodness. stop lookin @ the expertvillage videos and find some other one like 'just 4 kix' has some good videos with some ACTUAL experts...
It specifies... Beginner. When I teach my beginners, I also teach 2nd to 1st in chaines. I expect my intermediate dancers to keep legs in 1st while turning. My concern is that she demonstrated 1st to 2nd without turning, but turned in 5th ish - almost like a sutanu? I think it is a good demo for a beginner though.
woooooooooow. this was no offense for any one who likes this... BUT THIS WAS HORRIBLE! THERE IS NOT ONE BIT O ENERGY OR POWER OR ANYTHING. IT WAS JUST LIKE I'M DEAD.OR I HATE MY JOB I'M JUST DOIN THIS FOR THE MONEY. Horrible, My chanie turns are WAY better than THAT.
Yes, you're right! She seems bored by what she's doing, she seems that she doesn't like dancing. Mine are better too because I really seem happy when I dance.

this was a good demonstration but the arms dont usually move unless its a "working chaine" but they should stay together .

These are soutenus en tournents.
Chainees need 3 key ingredients:
1. You need to spot.
2. The arms need to stay in first while turning.
3. The legs should be in a third or fifth position with the centre of your 'core' (torso, head and abdominals) balanced over the legs, although they can be performed in first (rare circumstances).
