It is nice to see an owner who trains their dog properly, I see too many videos with out of control animals that owners think are acting cute when it's actually poor obedience training and care. Where do you recommend obtaining vizslas, I am very fond of these dogs and they seem to be a nice compromise retriever/pointer. Thanks again.
I agree, many times at the beach other dog owners with say they wish their dogs were half as 'good' as mine is.
Vizslas are a very loving breed but need tons of exercise too. I did a search through the AKC and wound up with a breeder in Winder Georgia. You can probably google for one.
It is an Innotek Command Series 2, ADV 300 - 300 yard range 7 Level training collar not a choker. Price was about $200 at Bass Pro Shops. Using electronic training collars is a very common training aid and very effective when used properly. Over use and abuse of e-collars can ruin very expensive gun dogs. We are not training our dogs to do tricks - we train them to hunt under close range gunfire and they have to be trained properly.
Not to mention... if you dont have your dog e-collar trained and your down here in Texas (hog infested) your looking at some serious trouble if your dog starts trying to chase a sow that just had her babies... or SNAKES, or any other dangerous situation where ur too far away to use WHOA. Interceptor obviously hasn't hunted behind many gun dogs...
you do a pretty good good job - and imo you deserve all credits due. viszlas learns easily, as long as they have a teacher like you. loved the performance...
Great dog and great job handling. I've been looking for a great dog for a pet and a hiking buddy This dog looks like it could be both. Do you think this breed could do well with cats? Any insight you could offer would be great.
A Vizsla is not for the feint of heart. They go a million miles an hour every hour. They need constant excercise but are easily trainable, loving dogs - introduced to cats early and they'll get along fine with them. If you are looking for a pet/hiking buddy you may want to try a lab. Good luck!
i don't know if you picked out a dog yet.. i have a 12 year old vizsla who still, at times, acts like a puppy, they require much attention, they are extremely gentile, and mine gets along with cats very well, when he meets one he just wants to sniff it all day, the smell interests him. This guy really trained his vizsla well
They are kind and loving. but he is right, do not get one if you can't exercise it at least 4-5x per week, else they will be very unhappy and may start misbehaving
Absolutely beautiful!! We have a 1yr old vizsla that I am begining serious upland bird training with. Looking forward to it and hope I have some of your success.
The near extinction happened in Hungary in 1920, the Soviet troops were not here until 1945, so you are 25 years out of date, full Stalinism wasn't until 1949. this had nothing to do with class, it just became unfashionable in the early 1900s and the breed dwindled. Did you know that the V. was originally from Turkic lands the word "Vizsla" comes from a turkic word for "seek" and this dog was the preferred dog of Islamic warriors, wonder if the religious-right owners in the US would like that!
I took the information directly from the American Kennel Club's website for the Vizsla Breed. That's good enough for me. They are also known by the following:Hungarian Pointer and Magyar Vizsla.
I could find no mention of the breed being associated with "Turkic Lands"
Reference: AKC, Vizsla Club of America, and the Hungarian Vizsla Society.
I Love your video!!! Your dog is gorgeous. He is trained really well! I owe a vizsla too, or I should say she owes me LOL. Could not imagine my life without her. She is not trained for hunting but really good at so many other things. Please post more stuff. I love to watch vizsla videos. Thanks and good luck!
Great video Seaboss!! This is how you should do if you own a vizsla. It seems you have teached him very well. I also have a wirehaired vizsla here in Finland. Been having some trouble with hunting lessons.
Thanks! - I picked up "The Ultimate Guide to Bird Dog Training" by Jerome B. Robinson. This book was a super help. Vizslas are extremely smart and mine took direction very well. A wirehair should get along well with the beautiful countryside of Finland. Good Luck!

Hello Seaboss2004,
Can you please tell me what kind of instrument you've fixed on the collar of your dog (...visible at the end of your video)?
If you're really using an electro shoker on your Vizsla, SORRY, then I have to say you're a miserable and lousy teacher.

Vizsla's are the best! Our Vizsla is called Voroz Vadasz Zoltan Nemo (or Nemo for short)! My daughter named him after a famous little red fish :-)

I have a viszla to :)
He is 8 but acts like a 2 year old.
He looks just like yours actually.
He was the runt of the litter so he is smaller than other viszlas, but he is still as fast lol.
Your dog is amazaing and you must be a very very good teacher! How old is your dog?
