  • 0:31 .... i laught so hard.

  • Wait a minute... this sounds absolutely NOTHING like the Ghostbusters theme. Seriously, I really can't see how Ray Parker Jr could have borrowed the melody from this to make the Ghostbusters theme...

  • herb

  • This Rock!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude @ 3:02 like step off my girl;

  • There is just no way to be sad when Huey Lewis and the News are doing there thing. Happy music.

  • this video is so joyful

  • How many did this in the 80's after watching this video? putting your face in a sink full of ice!!! LOL

  • GREAT!!!

  • Who You Gonna Call?.... Huey Lewiis!

  • but no doubt Ray Parkers version is much better.

  • ¡Excelente tema!

    Excellent tune!

  • Huey Lewis is classic cool.

  • GHOST BUS-oh wait, wrong song, sorry.

  • Huey Lewis was a hottie. nice body.

  • Where on earth can I get a red jacket like that? I've looked around and just can't find anything similar

  • @kinghomsar ...Ebay

  • coolest music ever

  • Excellent, I was looking for this song since I watched in The Simpsons

  • @alansexualboy007 same thing here dude

  • es nunos de los mejores videos de los 80's disco

  • infect me with your love

  • I ain't 'fraid of new drug

  • this song is awesome!

  • I hope he (Huey) got with the girl in the video.

  • Unlike some, they sounded as good live as they did in their albums. At their concerts the guitarists had little trampolines behind the speaker cabinets that they used to launch themselves up on to them. It was an all around great vibe.

  • nice song

  • There are no such mistakes made on the band's third album and flawless masterpiece, Sports. Every song has the potential to be a huge hit, and most of them were. It made the band rock 'n roll icons. Gone totally is the bad boy image, and a new frat-guy sweetness takes over. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that gives the songs on the album a big boost.

  • @Philofthefuture87 American Psycho

  • call me stupid, but did they write ghostbuster song?

  • No. Ray Parker Jr wrote the Ghostbusters song. Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker for plagiarism.

  • That red suit is fucking cool.

  • Ah the 80s - hairy popstars pushing 40 bopping about. Those were the days

  • Huey is dressed like one of the Detectives in Miami Vice, I can't remember his name.

  • Epic

  • Loved these videos because there was always one really hot chick in them.

  • Never realised this before but they kind of got the Miami Vice thing going on in the video or does Miami Vice have the I want a new drug thing going on in it.

  • @CFL35 It's so typical 80s, I think that's why you're thinking of Miami Vice, the most significant 80s show of them all ;)

  • Hewie and his fellas became heroes of the whole epoch. I grew on their music, and I continue to adore till now!

  • I understand why Ray Parker Jr was sued for plagiarising this for his ghostbuster, there are a lot of similarities.

  • @74Charm what's funny is, I always thought "Power of Love" sounded like a sped up version of "Love Stinks" during the chorus - and it's strange because Lewis thinks they may have gotten the Back to the Future soundtrack in correlation with the Ghostbusters lawsuit...

  • @74Charm Actually, both "The Ghostbusters Theme" and "I Want A New Drug" copied M's "Pop Musik" rythim from 1979. Check it out here on YouTube.

  • @StarWarsFan786 I listen to it, it was called M popmuzik. You have a point there are some similarity there as well.

  • @StarWarsFan786 Someone wrote in the comments that M or whatever he is called took Ghostbusters to court about this and won. Don`t know if its true but someone in the comment section in his vid. wrote it.

  • @74Charm: No, it was Huey Lewis who took them to court, and they settled. The Ghostbusters thing was pretty blatant - because they'd approached Lewis about writing a theme for the movie. "Popmuzik" is indeed similar, but not so similar they'd win a lawsuit, IMO.

  • @74Charm Ray Parker Jr ripped off Huey Lewis

  • @74Charm

apparently, the reason the two sound so much alike is that the guys who had ray make the song requested it sound like huey lewis and the news :P but it was plagirised

  • @74Charm other way around

  • Is it just me or is that sound quality really bad?

  • It's not you.

  • Well why is the quality so bad?

  • cause the 80's were bad

  • yeah.. badass!

  • Saxophone solo is gonna blow out my mind! The best band!

  • watch?v=g4uxIo4t7xM

  • H dawg in the house

  • This appeared on The Simpsons.

  • what episode

  • lol @ 3:02 the like 15 year old kid standing there like WTF?!

  • hahahah! best remark i heard all week :D

  • 80' s was time for a lot of cool things

    like this song

  • The 80's...loved it.

  • Jupiter 8 ... nice

  • The beats and the music to this song and the Ghostbusters song are so similar that a hearing impaired person can tell that they are similar!

  • Fuck! You´re damn right! I have never noticed this before.

  • i actually always thought this IS the ghostbusters theme song, but for the movie they sing other lyrics LMAO! xD i've never seen the movie...

  • Huey lewis and the news wrote the ghostbusters theme song but they didn't want to perform it so that might explain it.

  • Actually Huey sued the guy who did the ghostbusters song for the same reason.

  • i want a new duck!

  • lol

  • I have to watch this video every day just because I like the way he wakes up by using the ice cubes in the sink filled with water

  • Dumb question. What came out first in 1984 "Ghostbusters' or this song? Personally other than the similar guitar rift imo the Parker song is totally different from the Lewis song.

Also why did Huey wait so long to sue? They are both monster hits and among the most popular songs of the '80's.

On the other hand, IMO, Vanilla Ice clearly stole/sampled w/o credit the old Bowie/Queen song 'under pressure' for 'ice ice baby.'

  • I thought that H & T News released this first, back in the 80's..... my band copied alot of Huey's stuff and played it for weddings. I think Huey & the band was offered the chance to write the theme for Ghostbusters....but were surprised to hear Ray Parker got the deal when they didn't commit to the deal.

  • Great point Francis on a probably reason Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker, Jr..

Although he never admitted it publicly maybe Lewis was 'pissed' that Parker had a #1 worldwide hit w/ the ghostbusters theme after probably having the 1st crack to sing the ghostbusters theme/album.

I never heard that theory but it makes sense.

  • Lewis sued Parker and Co (producers of Ghostbusters) for plagiarism. They offer Lewis the job, they declined, then they offered it to Parker who "wrote" the Ghostbuster theme that has same beat as I Want A New Drug

  • Hey everybody...ignore this little prick francis929, he has been harrasing women and resorting to alot of defamation of charactor on some of the people i know. This guys a stalker who uses other screennames similar to peoples whenever they dont agree with him

  • The bass line is very, very similar.

Huey Lewis released this in 1983, whereas the Ghostbusters' theme came out in 1984.

  • Well I think there's a difference between using a sample for a song or beat, and stealing creative material. Frankly, I don't think Ray should have been sued: there are songs which have been more similar which never caused a ruckus.

  • Regardless if the Ghostbusters beat is the same as this, now a days all the beats are rip offs of other old songs, especially with hiphop.

  • how is the ghostbusters song the same as this? there totally different

  • The tempo and beat are the same. The key is just one step higher in the Ghostbusters song.

  • Ghostbusters is superior

  • Tell me about it... can't smoke, can't drink no more... What's left??

  • Heh heh, I didn't know agent smith from "The Matrix" was part of the news.Seriously folks, check out 3:17- 3:19 .

  • Agent Smith!!! That is awesome

  • horrible sound quality. Great song though.

  • its the exact same melody just tweeked

  • LOL

  • hONEY SORRY 2 BURt ur bubble bu tHip- Hop is so out of style. Its rap thse days, or RAPe, or cRap. No one lsitens to hip hop. Hoobastank aint hiphop son. I f ucant appreciate any type of rock, u cant appreciate ur pussy or dick.

You say Linkin Park- I say Freddy Mercury

U say KOrn - I say wat is that

U say - Puddle of mUdd - i say Beyonce

    U say Hoobastank - I say Madonna

U say Limp Biskit - I say huey Lewis

    U say 311 - I say Jay -z

  • It's been 25 years, and I still don't hear any similarities between this song and "Ghostbusters." Ray Parker Jr. got hosed.

  • Are you kidding me?

    It sounds exactly like Ghostbusters.

Although I don't think it's something to sue over, though.

  • I disagree. I will say the riff sounds like Shake your Body by the Jackson 5. Maybe they should sue.

  • dude i was just comparing them they sound just a tiny bit alike but they do not really compare

  • Nah, the beat is similar, but everything else is completely different. The guitars, the lyrics, the melody....all completely different.

IMO, this wasn't enough for Huey Lewis to win a lawsuit over. They never did go to court though...Parker just settled with Lewis out of court which is not quite the same thing as admitting guilt.

  • There's no "guilt" in civil court: that's a criminal concept. Whether a party admits any liability is going to depend on the terms of the specific settlement, since the settlement is itself an enforceable contract.

  • All I meant was that an out of court settlement doesn't mean that Ray Parker Jr. admitted to copying the wrong...most likely, he just wanted to end the crap to avoid negative publicity. I thought that was plainly obvious, but some people are just so technical and literal on the intrawebz.

  • Copying the 'song', I meant to say. Had to correct that before you got on my back about it again.

  • Ya I gotta admit, the main melody is pretty close if not the same, but KnockYouOutCold is correct, everything else is completely different. But that happens alot, it's not like Parker straight sampled this song. And hell all the songs in the 80's sound the same to me...

  • I agree with you man. I don't hear the similarities at all

  • It is closer to the end of the song when you notice the similarities. But it is not nearly as noticeable as say Vanilla Ice stealing the baseline from David Bowie and Queen for Under Pressure.

  • To my ears, the rhythm section (bass & drums) sounds exactly the same.

  • asaues

  • Being born in the 70's and growing up through the 80's i can say that the 80's were SOOOO lame. Goodness.

  • Everyone has the right to be an uneducated moron. You are abusing the privelege. Would you prefer idiots that don't even play their own music==hip hop hippioty shit that alls sounds the same. Piss off antfuk.

  • Wow. You need therapy.

  • huey lewis robot rock

  • Sounds like ghostbusters

  • Yeah, sounds exactly like Ghostbusters. Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr over it too.

  • This song always makes me feel good. Huey Lewis still ROCKS!!!

  • Huey Lewis has always been one of the most ironic rock stars. And i love him for it.

  • fuck I need a new drug

  • Ahh HL&TN good old 80's feel good rock

  • Huey still rocks out with his...socks out. heh.

And I don't want a new drug, the old familiar cannabis will do just fine. 8)

  • who are you gonna call? GHOStBuSters!!!

  • What happened to good music like this & good bands like Heuy Lewis & the News. Todays music ain't worth a shit

  • The answer to that is simple: When it comes to today's music you don't need talent; all you have to do is sell an image and create crap using computers and you're off and running. Notice no one uses real instruments anymore for pop music? Hell, you don't even have to be able to sing! They can fix vocals in post. It's a shame!

  • Agreed. America has lost its way politically and culturally.

  • As one of the pioneers of electric music, Ryuichi Sakamoto of YMO said "...there would come an age where everybody can create music, using machines, and automation. As musicians we must pursue much more than what was acceptable before. In other words, as time progresses, it becomes harder and harder to differentiate yourself from the croud".

I think it's okay for people to use computers to make music, just don't buy music because the artist is popular, but buy music for its quality.

  • Hard to find a sexy man in his 30's/40's that can jam and has sould like this. He's the perfect package.

  • hmm, apparently his character in the video lives in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of SF

  • Classic!!!!!

  • just saw him live on tuesday, and i must say, he's still goddamn great

  • Hahaha. These videos are the greatest..

  • This doesnt sonud a thing like ghostbusters theme song!

  • ...i think they are talking about the bass(line).

  • Just because you know a song doesn't mean it's better, everyone saw Ghostbusters back when it came out.

  • totally awesome!

  • Only Huey could look that good just hopping out of bed and plunging his face in ice water! God, he was one of the cutest guys in the 80's era!

  • Looked just like Harrison Ford.

  • He is still amazing in concert. I saw him and he's still (in my opinion) gorgeous, as well as talented. He fit the 80's sound SOOOO well!

  • I agree. He's soooo gorgeous for being older! haha

  • I loved his live show.

  • whos the babe on the 10 speed bike

  • lol good one becca good luck!!!

  • beavis hates this video/song

  • i was in tenth grade when this song came out. it was one of my faves

  • The Simpsons redid this video for a scene on the drug smuggling episode. Pure genius and it was funny!

  • How many of you watched this after looking for the family guy clip?

  • Family Guy clip?

  • Definitely better than Ray Parker Jr's supposed "rip-off".

  • i want a new drug too help me

  • Great Song and Vid. Brings back a lot of memories...

  • One of my all time favorite songs!!!

  • damn!! I hear every word he's saying.

  • I remember singing this at the top of my voice in my brothers TC3 Horizon.

  • i often find myself singing this.

    beautiful.

  • huey lewis and the news are awesome. they are one of my favorite bands of the 80's.

  • Definitely an 80's video, you can tell by the leg warmers. But hey, it's Huey and the boys rocking out, so it's all good...

  • Huey Lewis was so handsome during the 80's

  • cool song

  • I think this is the best video of him I've seen yet.... :)

  • Huey was the master of great videos.

  • is it just me or is the bass line sound similar to the one for GHOSTBUSTERS? lol

  • lol It's not just you. lol It's Huey too since he tried to sue Ray Parker Jr. over it.

  • Actualy.. it is kind of simular.. but not exactly.. this sound has more of a ... country sound.. if that makes any sence.

Where as Ray parker Jrs Ghostbusters sounds more.... i dont know.. funky.. their are similaritys.. but its not enough the same.. im listening to both at the same time.. not the same.. not enough to sue Ray Parker Jr over.. silly to me.

  • record companies are hunting down the " inferior" quality videos for copyright purposes. Tell me why half the " superior " versions by the record companies have such terrible sound. I mean , where's the volume? This is remastered? This is why you're taking down others and replacing it with. and you expect people not to repost the videos you're taking down? Pa-leeease!

  • I blame the Simpsons for getting me into them.

  • I haven't seen this vid in a long time! Thank you
