  • El I-Pad está haciendo maravillas entre nuestros niños con autismo :)

  • You're all a bunch of dumbasses to think that the iPad is perfect for ass pies. If you really want to help them with such a stupid device, get them a fucking iPod touch. It'll have the same damn effect, faggots.

  • I have a nephew in south georgia born with autism. He is doing great in school, but he still cannot communicate verbibly. He just turned 8.I would love for him to find more help.

  • my sister has autisum

  • What if we did not vaccinate half our kids for 5 years,

like the Amish do, and bingo, none of them are autism.

    This is science.

It is not based on belief.

What if taking 3,000 mcg of selenium daily will cure you in 1 year?

    This is science.

  • @paul8kangas The guy that did that study ADMITTED TO LYING. It has nothing to do with vaccines. Try and educate yourself before you talk about something you don't know anything about.

  • Stop the vaccination rape of babies.

  • @paul8kangas vote for Palin while you are at it. Your facts and ambitions are all wrong and hateful. wake up.

  • The 2,000% rise in autism was caused

    by a 2,000% rise

in the number of vaccinations given to babies & children.

To test if vaccinations are the cause of autism,

we need to allow half the parents to

decide if their should be vaccinated or not.

What if kids who are not vaccinated

until age 18 do not get autism?

  • @paul8kangas and i say it's genetic. me and my bro were vaccinated. he is considered normal in the global view, am the one with the mental illness. it's genetic i was obviously the unlucky one.

  • Objective C is a bitch

  • I wonder what the fibers in MY language circuit would look like.

  • I'm living in Fance and I have a non verbal kid with ASD.

Where can I find applications for i Pad ?

    Thank you for your aide.

  • @Gabrielle69300 @Gabrielle69300 download an app called "autismapps" which will direct you to many helpful apps depending on which use you need.

  • Thank you very much ! who have to translate applications but they are very helpful

  • @salwamatta

    Thank you so much !!

  • I can see why it's so helpfull but also don't want everyone to learn and have their lives revolving around technology wait ... .

  • I'm an ABA therapist and I have seen wonderful things with the Ipad. It is an awesome therapy device!

  • No, no, no! Temple Grandin has AUTISM, not Asperger's! Asperger's doesn't have a speech delay, autism does!

  • first of all this app is available for the ipod touch... so right there the autistics could've used the ipod touch. Second of all... why cant an autistic kid just write out what they want on a piece of paper. If its gonna save $1000 i would just write on a piece of paper.

  • @p154831 First of all,the iPad is bigger and easier to see and second of all, some autistic people can't use their hands because they don't have good motor skills so... Shut up.

  • @p154831 Because these kids/people have no talent for communication like pen and paper. However responding to images is relativly easy for them, hence pictograms and Ipads.

  • Wow! The very first story was amazing, it bought a tear to my eye. I have 2 sons with Autism, one is non verbal and we are about to buy him a tablet for communicating. I am thankful that technology has not forgotten those in the world who still need assistance.

  • I'm high functioning autistic and this amazes me. I didn't think that they were actually developing apps for autistic people so they could communicate.

  • You need Bubcaps to cover the home button so the children don't press it to get out of the app :)

  • My daughter received an Ipad as a gift recently and we are starting to use the same app too for communication. It is so exciting!!

  • That's proof that autistic people are not retarded.

  • @averyhse yes they are or else they woldnt be austictic

  • @SharpieTheBlack Really!? If that's the case, then if you're using a Microsoft program for your computer, you're using something made by someone who is autistic. Bill Gates is, in fact, autistic. So was Jim Hensen, creator of the Muppets, and people believe Michael Jackson, the king of Pop himself, was autistic.

Before you say autistics are retarded, check your facts. Because I'm autistic too and I know I sure as hell ain't retarded.

  • @SorafiLynn LOL YOUR AUTISTIC? that's hillarious.

  • @SharpieTheBlack Yes, I am. I won't deny it. In fact, I'm proud I am. Why be ashamed of something I had no control over in the first place?

  • @SorafiLynn You shouldn't be proud to be retarded, that's retarded.

  • @SharpieTheBlack You do realize those on the high functioning end of the spectrum are not "retarded," right? There's non-functioning, low functioning, and high functioning. You're thinking of non-functioning and low functioning autistic people. And, once again, Bill Gates is autistic. So if you're using a Microsoft product, you're using a product made by someone who is, in fact, autistic.

  • @SorafiLynn I don't use any Microsoft shit. Lol retard.

  • @SharpieTheBlack You do realize calling me a retard doesn't offend me, right? Because unlike you, I know I'm not a "retard" and therefore am not offended by calling me something that isn't true.

So go ahead and call me a retard all you want. All you're doing is making yourself look like a real jackass. So go ahead and ruin your reputation online, I'll keep mine how it is. Thank you and I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving.

  • @SorafiLynn You are retarded because you're autistic and you probably sound retarded too.

  • @SharpieTheBlack Lol, troll

  • @SorafiLynn He's a troll, stop feeding :s

  • @Arthreas I', a 12 year old girl not a he and I pro troll good day bye.

  • @SorafiLynn Non-functioning is death

  • iPad is also good for deaf people to communicate with hearing people who does not sign.

  • WHO THE HELL DISLIKES FROM AUTISM!!!!!! AUTISM!!!!! now thats just mean...

  • @genevareva Ditto.

  • go on /b/ great place for autistic people

  • My 3 year old autistic daughter has an Ipad and she loves it. But as a parent, using the Ipad as method of therapy or teaching tool is the last method I would use. Autism is a social & communication disorder - I would think having children engaging with a person instead of the Ipad is more important. Using ABA, natural environment teaching, & good old fashion speech therapy is the best way. To my daughter, Ipad is a fantastic toy - much like the nintendo 3ds is to my neuro typical nephew.

  • @sangikim It depends on the level of autism they exhibit though. In cases of severe autism where the person seems to almost be locked in, the ipad seems to be a VERY effective method, as are computers. For someone with asperger's though I agree that helping them develop strong social coping mechanisms is better than trying to circumvent social situations. Technology seems to be a strength of most aspies and autistics though.

  • Temple grandin isn't an aspie she has high functioning autism.

  • @sangikim Aspies are anyone that is on the autism spectrum.

  • A "Normal brain". You mean an average brain right?

  • He looks like a nice guy.

  • This is a great video! We at Bilinguals Inc. / Achieve Beyond aid special nees children on the autistic spectrum as well. The advances in technology are incredible. I hope you will be our friends and/or subscribe to our channel. Together we can spread early intervention health care nationwide to children that need it the most.

  • this is amazing!!! I'm 21 and volunteer at the high school Autism class every monday and wednesday. I've been with them since my senior year, 3 years ago, and the whole time I been there there was only one non-verbal student, cece, and she loved the ipad!! She really enjoyed the bubble wrap app :) I think its amazing what technology can do for these kids. It opens up so many opportunities and hope :)

  • I'm lucky to work in a special ed classroom with an iPad. Yesterday one of our non-verbal kids with ASD wanted to play with bubbles. She kept pointing to the top of the shelf which had many things on it and it was a guessing game. So to her credit, she went to the iPad, found her favorite math app, found the page with the bubble bottles on it and showed it to me. She was rewarded with a shower of bubbles! Thanks Steve Jobs for advancing communication for ASD.

  • It will be so nice when People First Language takes hold...please say people with autism, not autistic people. (like you'd say people with cancer, not cancer people)

  • @BeckyPike I totally agree 100%.

  • @BeckyPike Autistic people, like myself, actually tend not to prefer person first language, just FYI.

  • I really want one for my niece! She can't always tell us and she gets so frustrated!

  • ...fabulous news piece! But, when is the media going to learn about People First Language?!?

  • this is just so incredible. started crying 5 minutes in. i can’t even explain how grateful i am for steve jobs and everything he did, especially after watching this. this video is exactly why i want to be a special ed teacher. no words.

  • @Kimock7

Are you sure your not the guy who has autism? :P BTW its a troll... Don't feed it.

  • Excellent!!! I know what my son will be getting for x-mas. It also needs to be said, such tools like the iPad and these apps have been around in other forms for several years now, but last time I priced them, they were $3,000 - $5,000 each. Thank you, Steve Jobs..... and thank you 60 Minutes for airing this.

  • @Kimock7 That's great! :D

  • What's the name of the vocabulary app after 8:12?

  • Our Autistic daughter is almost 7, and totally non-verbal. She is getting an Augmentative communication device that works much the same way. We think this is wonderful. If we can afford one, we may get an I pad as well. I wonder how expensive the apps. are?

  • @web9254 proloquo2go is 189

  • i feel so great for him :)

  • Watching the Autism segments put tears in my eyes, because Daniel's school district refused to teach Daniel to use an IPad to communicate, they would not give him a chance of learning. Great video on Steve Jobs.

    ~Daniel's mom

  • Our Autistic daughter (totally non-verbal) is getting an Augmentive Comm. device that works a lot like the I pad. Her teacher's first response to this news was "Who's going to train her on it?!" -So I can sympathize with your situation. The Speech therapist at school is receptive to the idea. All school districts should be open to using ALL assitive technology devices for communication!!! If yours won't work with you, maybe you should take legal action.

  • @web9254 Thank you for your response. Daniel’s school district used the speech therapist's (ST) vote as an excuse to confine Daniel to a wheelchair with unnecessary tilting and straps to confine his body movements, because when he can't move, it put him in a passive state of mind; therefore, he lose the interactive interest of learning. Due to his lock of cognitive ability to translate symbolic symbols into a real life situation, an real picture & voice would encourage his learning interest.

  • @web9254 Part2. For years, this has been a huge disagreement with his school’s ST, instead of focusing on communication, they focused on positioning/posture which isn't the ST expertise area. The school’s PT was incompetent, so she had to influence the teachers, aides, and ST to disagree with me. As a result, Daniel didn't recieve any ST sevices for years, even when he is unable to read characters or answer Y/N. Thats why Daniel had to be homeschool so he can learn to communicate yes/no.

  • Really works. We have Aaron, a 21 year old allot like Josh. Aaron has an iPad and he loves it, asks to use it more and more. First thing he has taken real interest in since he was introduced to Whinny the Pooh VHS tapes when he was a toddler. Thank you Steve Jobs for all you have done for Aaron and parents of autistics.

  • This just amazed me! Another reason to be thankful for the amazing technology we have!

  • Thanks for making me cry fuckers! JK xD

  • Very nice!!!

  • This is amazing...... this helps Autistic children communicate by a touch of a screen. 25 years ago, even just 10 years ago, this technology either didn't exist or wasn't fully developed, and now it is.
