The key to understanding accents is just more exposure. At my university I had professors from all over the world, and it was hard at first but the world is getting smaller, and we can't live in a bubble. In your careers, you will work with people from all over, so use this opportunity to get used to other accents. THANK YOU NPTEL!!
If you speak portuguese, french, german, spanish besids english, or I would say, if you speak 1 (ONE) language besides english, it won't be a problem :/
Great lecture! It may be hard for a non-Indian to understand his English but with practice you will be able to do it.. Indians are good it math and its worth understanding them even if it requires practice.
I found it difficult to understand what he was saying to be honest. I have seen other lectures by NPTEL who had a better and more clearer English accent. I don't want to be rude, and I know that the intention is always good, but unfortunately this time it was difficult to understand him.
This is a very good video. Like all other videos by NPTEL. Accessing NPTEL videos, i landed into . Its a good online platform connecting students and educators. It offers wide variety of content also
I wonder why people who r not interested visit these links in the first place and comment crap...am sure a person who is searching for the fluid mechanics knowledge wud get wht he needs here and thats all that matters ... Thank you sir...it was really informative for me!!
Thanks sir for the lectures sir, they are really helpful. To anyone complaining about the accent, you are a douche. You'd be better off in an English 101 class. And for us engineering students in USA/Canada, most of the profs are either Indian/Bangladeshi, Arabs or Chinese. And you pay them to teach...so i don't know what you are complaining about... at least the Indians/Bangladeshi went to sch in English all their lives as opposed to most of the Arab/Chinese profs.
I strongly believe that these types of lectures should be done on a blackboard . Only when someone presents stuff and at the same time explaining them, altering the tone of voice at various times he can keep his audience interested for long time. Body language helps a lot and he uses none. Presentations with powerpoint or beamer at this level of learning are very static and people get bored easily.
This programme really needs to be appreciated and utilized by the engineering students community. It has helped me greatly to understand and enjoy the subject.I thank Prof. Eldho for his efforts to make this video course complete and a very useful tool.Thank you, sir..Hope, all the content and the courses on NPTEL will be brought out in video form. The video courses are more helpful to us, the students, than the web courses..I thank all each and everyone involved in this programme.

Its a good initiative from indian government agency. But, plz note that, even he is a knowledgeful person, he is not expressing with right words. Poor english fluency as a professor. Another thing, viewers please note, while he is describing fundamental units, he says unit of temparature is "Centigrade". Its not centigrade, it is "Celcius"(meeting of SI weights and measures, centigrade is officially droped and Celcius is used in the name of founder Celcius).
@abhisheksdm2: Please don't criticize anyone elses Englisg with poor English.. To quote: "he is not expressing with right words". You make yourself look foolish in the eyes of the world. So kindly STFU. Thank you.

That is problem in non-English speaking countries. Everyone thinks in his / her mother tongue and tries to speak in English. The English spoken by a Tamil, Bengali, Punjabi .... all varies. What is funny is your lack of knowledge ! Sorry sir !

I'm Indian, adn I definetly agree that he has a very strong accent,a nd ppl frm around the globe may have difficulty understanding, tough Indins think his English is very clear. However, STANFORD and many other universities have such videos too.. So, I would say different videos cater to different audiences, in terms of quality, ease in understanding adn for obvious other reasons !
This reminds me of my time at university studying engineering, how can such an interesting subject be made so difficult to understand and painfully boring? I'm glad I changed course to study Product Design where the learning environment was very different.
I'd rather buy a quality text and read about the subject myself. I think finding a charasmatic/interesting/informative engineering lecturer would akin to finding a needle in a haystack,
Simply, without being rude to the instructor, a good teacher, had understood the topic and transfers it in the bast way. A bad one is someone who repeats the slides without knowing the real problems.
