  • Who can't understand accents nowadays? Have you never heard someone with an accent that it's really so difficult?

  • esta este mismo video con subtitulos en español??

  • The key to understanding accents is just more exposure. At my university I had professors from all over the world, and it was hard at first but the world is getting smaller, and we can't live in a bubble. In your careers, you will work with people from all over, so use this opportunity to get used to other accents. THANK YOU NPTEL!!

  • @blueridding totally agree :)

  • a great contribution by prof. eldho...this is a really helpful lecture to engineers....

  • If you speak portuguese, french, german, spanish besids english, or I would say, if you speak 1 (ONE) language besides english, it won't be a problem :/

  • all i want are a hundred videos of fluid mechanics problems worked out.

  • awesome lecturer))

  • btw i am not indian

  • Good job!

  • I appreciate his contribution but it is hard to understand indian english accent. Subtitles would be good..

  • it was nice

  • Keep it up. Please cover all the courses taught in india. Will provide a boost to indian economy. Create awareness about this way of teaching.

  • he is not very difficult to understand. its a pretty thick accent, but i could make out probably 99% of all the words he said.

then again, i've kind of gotten used to the Indian accent from engineering classes at university :)

  • Great lecture! It may be hard for a non-Indian to understand his English but with practice you will be able to do it.. Indians are good it math and its worth understanding them even if it requires practice.

  • wtf i can't understand that fucking english

  • @Ainarhee you have some cognitive problems then....start using your brain before it goes dead!!

  • He just loves the "ch" sound !

  • I found it difficult to understand what he was saying to be honest. I have seen other lectures by NPTEL who had a better and more clearer English accent. I don't want to be rude, and I know that the intention is always good, but unfortunately this time it was difficult to understand him.

  • @kami645464

This is a very good video. Like all other videos by NPTEL. Accessing NPTEL videos, i landed into . Its a good online platform connecting students and educators. It offers wide variety of content also

  • I wonder why people who r not interested visit these links in the first place and comment crap...am sure a person who is searching for the fluid mechanics knowledge wud get wht he needs here and thats all that matters ... Thank you sir...it was really informative for me!!

  • Thanks sir for the lectures sir, they are really helpful. To anyone complaining about the accent, you are a douche. You'd be better off in an English 101 class. And for us engineering students in USA/Canada, most of the profs are either Indian/Bangladeshi, Arabs or Chinese. And you pay them to teach...so i don't know what you are complaining about... at least the Indians/Bangladeshi went to sch in English all their lives as opposed to most of the Arab/Chinese profs.

  • People who are complaining about his accent/english are those who have no idea what he's talking about and are jealous.

  • I strongly believe that these types of lectures should be done on a blackboard . Only when someone presents stuff and at the same time explaining them, altering the tone of voice at various times he can keep his audience interested for long time. Body language helps a lot and he uses none. Presentations with powerpoint or beamer at this level of learning are very static and people get bored easily.

  • nptel i thank you for your lectures but investing in subtitles would be great

  • Fucking sand niggers!

  • @Gamebreaker08 You are an idiot, as India is not a Middle Eastern country.

  • @Gamebreaker08 You should spend some time at a University. : D

  • thanks for u r lecture

we are really greatfull to u through out our life

    thanks once more sir

  • This programme really needs to be appreciated and utilized by the engineering students community. It has helped me greatly to understand and enjoy the subject.I thank Prof. Eldho for his efforts to make this video course complete and a very useful tool.Thank you, sir..Hope, all the content and the courses on NPTEL will be brought out in video form. The video courses are more helpful to us, the students, than the web courses..I thank all each and everyone involved in this programme.

  • this is an amazing and great initiative.

i only ask one thing. in the future when more vids like this are being made, can the slides be shown a tad longer....i have to pause it to be able to read the slides. cheers

  • very nice concept___

will help peoples like me, who usually found outside their classes__

  • Internet lecture is a great concept

I can't take fluid I this semester, so I watch this videos to get a ruff ideas

  • Its a good initiative from indian government agency. But, plz note that, even he is a knowledgeful person, he is not expressing with right words. Poor english fluency as a professor. Another thing, viewers please note, while he is describing fundamental units, he says unit of temparature is "Centigrade". Its not centigrade, it is "Celcius"(meeting of SI weights and measures, centigrade is officially droped and Celcius is used in the name of founder Celcius).

  • @abhisheksdm2: Please don't criticize anyone elses Englisg with poor English.. To quote: "he is not expressing with right words". You make yourself look foolish in the eyes of the world. So kindly STFU. Thank you.

  • hahaha clubbed to death 2 playing in the intro

  • IIT had made life of we people very easy now we can bunk easily....hehehehheheehe

Jst joking ..it is very nice work...THANX

  • funny accent

  • That is problem in non-English speaking countries. Everyone thinks in his / her mother tongue and tries to speak in English. The English spoken by a Tamil, Bengali, Punjabi .... all varies. What is funny is your lack of knowledge ! Sorry sir !

  • Acho mano a este tipo no lo entiende ni la madre que lo pario

  • ass ga-asses

  • I'm Indian, adn I definetly agree that he has a very strong accent,a nd ppl frm around the globe may have difficulty understanding, tough Indins think his English is very clear. However, STANFORD and many other universities have such videos too.. So, I would say different videos cater to different audiences, in terms of quality, ease in understanding adn for obvious other reasons !

  • weirdest accent i have ever heard

  • gosh it is really difficult to follow his accent.

  • @idiotkrati ssss ssss ssssss

  • I really dont get it, could you be more specific ?

  • it was useful thank you

  • lol 6:18 gas or liqorice?? i cant understand your annoying language!

  • '.. gas or liquids...'

if you listen it's quite audible

  • he must be saying liquid

  • better than my fluids lecturer

  • excellent work

  • Sick music i like this video !

  • thank you for these lectures, the only FM lectures online.

    Thanks

  • This reminds me of my time at university studying engineering, how can such an interesting subject be made so difficult to understand and painfully boring? I'm glad I changed course to study Product Design where the learning environment was very different.

I'd rather buy a quality text and read about the subject myself. I think finding a charasmatic/interesting/informative engineering lecturer would akin to finding a needle in a haystack,

  • Simply, without being rude to the instructor, a good teacher, had understood the topic and transfers it in the bast way. A bad one is someone who repeats the slides without knowing the real problems.

That is why we always need to know the teacher before listening...

  • all enGliSH all Za TTime

  • Try Indian.

  • I have tried Indian food they are very spicy and kinda expensive in Ireland.

But thats not the point here, this guy is kinda Russian you know from the Sothern Part I mean

  • o yea to save some time skip the first 10 or 11 mins or so, its kinda just refreshing on the differences between a fluid and solid

  • he looks like sex from so you think you can dance

  • These online recorded classes are GREAT!! id like to go back to the basics every now and then. i dont know what to make of the retarded remarks about the accent as he speaks very good and clear english. these 90 pound nerds need to understand that people speak english differently all over the world. they need to start tuning their ears to appreciate other accents instead of whining about it like babies. just look up a few russell peters videos youll know what im talking about.

  • @SaracenArrow

i didn't notice any problem in his english

but fortunately his english is very clear , and all NPTEL lectures are great

  • i was saying the same.

  • @rohitkumarindia because you re indian, for me it is sooooo hard to understand indian english accent but lecture is good

  • He has a good way of explaining things but i wish he would actually have a better accent, i don't mean to be racist but he sound boring especially when hes sitting. my point of my view only

  • @asimlia tell me about it!

  • what's the name of the song at the beginning?

  • porcelain, by moby

  • loooooooool that's what u got. it's sooooo funny. yah u r right it's impressive.

  • the majority of the world learned from the usa, thats why they are wrong rofl

  • u stupid ur wrong

  • anti, your screenname is oxymoronic.

    you are a true idiot.

  • you idiot..shear stress is basics to go onto fluid mechanics.

  • you just an idiot boy.

  • their cleaver than you

  • There's a difference between understanding Fluid mechanics and TEACHING IT>....

  • samgee2007 is a troll.

  • This guy is very smart. I give him lots of respect. But the accent....uggghh....I can't understand 3/4 of what he is saying.

  • I guess you're not a native english speaker. I'm not but if you know the language well it isn't that hard to understand.

  • kid, i think you haven't learnt to be polite from MIT videos.... criticism is good but abusing is not...

    watch out what you say.....

    999

  • i can understand that majority of indians can not teach... simply because how they learned is wrong..

  • can someone tell me what song is this? I know, its old but music is so good and calming, I loved it. please let me know, if you know. thanks

  • moby - porcelain

  • THABNK YOU SIR!!

  • im a student. ME and we are studying fluid flow in pipes. we have a test next week , 2 questions one on differential equations explaining fluid flow mainly in 2-d and the other on proving Navier-Stokes theorem. jk. na losses in pipe flow.

  • Atleast music is good. I liked the music. I did Engineering 10 years ago, I was taught much better. Good try though.

  • remember that this is the internet, and not a university of science, and learning directly is easier than from a screen. atleast to my experience.

  • I don't see much of this in the States do you? Who will me more educated if we don't do something ourselves?

  • You need to be really good in calculus before tackling fluid mechanics.

  • moreover diff eqns

  • This guy needs teacher-training.

  • Fluid Mechanics was one thing which went over my head......though now i am happy doin Btech in computer science and engg.

  • there are a number of videos !!! which one of these is the original?

  • all are original

  • can anyone tell me which is this track being played at the start?

  • Moby - Porcelain

Album : Play from Moby or also on The beach original soundtrack (various artist)

  • is this moby? which track?

  • w00t tartans all the way! (or the scottie dog...)

  • This class cost me $700 in college. Would also like to credit youtube.

  • lol

  • and whoever spammed my comment below is a RETARD !!!

  • sounds like moby

  • Want to learn real fluid mechanics and dynamics?

    Google Viktor Schauberger

    Namaste

  • Hi rabinjoshi, The respected sir teaches fluid mechanics, not english. His english is ok. What is important is that he succeeds in getting his message across. Thank you SIR...

  • Bhai I understand that he teaches Fluid Mechanics not english but dont you agree that there is a certain minimum level of communication skills that is needed in teaching any subject ? Couldn't they have found any other prof to take up the same course in a much better way? We tend to compare IITs to the Ivy League... Is this the standard you expect from an IIT ?

  • Have you heard Scots from UK speak ? This professor is FAR better. He lacks accent and vocab but is otherwise VERY clear in explanation.

  • the standard is good, moron. his english is fine, he has normal accent for indian people, and dat is fine.

  • @hershp I can't speak two languages so respect for this dude.

  • @hershp Fuck indian people!

  • @Gamebreaker08 lol yea keep fucking them behind ur internet wall lol loser, only thing you can fuck is urself haha

  • have u ever been to a university? or are u a moronic community college student. i study mathematics at berkeley, and half of my professors have strong accent. if one is from russia, then the other is from iran, and so on.

  • Bro, its not about accent. If the standard of his teaching impresses you, wat can I say. If you call this a quaility education, man... speaks volumes about your own quaility standards... it must be quaility for you but I guess our standards differ. And dont call me a moron. I've done MS & published papers in the same subject. I may not be from Berkely, but it wasn't a community college either. I know more about the subject and I've had more quaility university education than u do.

  • most of your comments makes u look like a douchebag rather than someone who has done MS

  • Dekh hero, we're discussing the merits & demerits of his teaching style. So stop making denigratory personal remarks. If I start the same u'll end up crying. 'Douchebag' may be one of the new words in english u've learnt recently but believe me it doesn't make u cool.

  • typical stateschool. private schools tend to go the length to find professors who can actually speak. after all, a professor is as good as how he/she can impart their knowledge to students. even if it's no nobel laureate teaching, if he cant speak english well, he's completely useless to the student

  • maybe indian students understand his accent?

  • this idea is awesome!!! as an engineering student, this provides another source of material for my classes. Good Work, and congratulations from Puerto Rico, at the other side of the world!!!

  • hmm in the last figure it seemed like the particle would move deterministically along the pathline given knowledge of its present position

  • nice i nead to learn div grad curl and fourier series

  • Respected Sir;

I am a student of IITk i enjoyed your lecture

    very much

  • i didnt know you can put video on youtube up to 51 minuits..^^

  • The music is Porcelain

  • thank you

  • could someone please tell me what's the name of the intro music??

  • moby - album "Play"

  • thats a great initiative

hope it lives up to its cause fullfilment

  • jazzak allaha how can we download this videos please help me and thanks to the lecturer

  • just download real player 11

  • Great lecture. I wish video lectures like this existed when I was getting my engineering degree because now we can speed through the lectures at high speed and watch in 1/2 the time. Love the channel to nptelhrd, nice to see worthwhile content on YouTube.

  • the lecture is awesome can any one give lectures on thermodynamics from iits similarly

  • does anybody know from which univesity these lectures are??

  • iit,khragpur

  • very useful

  • I hated this class when I was getting my engineering degree. Only because the professor did not teach it well. You seem to get the points across much better!

  • nice...i'm studying mechanical engineering, this helped me a lot

  • Who needs to pay for tuition anymore...

  • prof. Eldho

  • i wish i'd found this sooner, maybe i wouldn't be failing next week :(

  • dang some smart indians

  • They would be excellent, but I can't understand them too well. It's a bad combination of their accents and YouTube's poor audio...it's a shame.

  • These lectures are an outrageously wonderful supplement to my current classes.
