However, hypothetically, you could go up to someone and make some kind of racist or sexist etc. comment and they would say "that's terrible!". Our general moral codes, at least in the US, tell us that being racist/sexist/homophobic/etc. is wrong, and it's something people are expected to adhere to. It's a statement made based on a fundamental belief that person has.
