She definitely thought crying would gain her points, some children will do just about anything to get their own way. If she was my daughter, after shaming herself and her family, I would give her something to cry about when she came home after the show. She wouldn’t have been too old for a spanking.
i swear that was fake crying i know people are gonna tell me im fucking stupid retarded ya ya ya i heard it all before but seriously she was fucking faking it there's no way in hell that was real she has everyone tricked but not me but she was good at acting at least
@unwrittenx1 thats hardly been a spoilt brat - she was a 10 year old little girl - kids are kids - all she wanted was a second chance - not being spoilt
@MrEvilfims so - when u were 10 years old did you go out in front of - must have been over a million in total in views - over britain - had a flippin brakedown - then had the pure guts to go back out and show everyone wat ur made off - DID U DO THAT - I DON'T THINK SO
Part of the reason Simon Cowell gave her that second chance (which I think we should all be glad he did ) is he had realized just how precious this young talent could be and the other part is remembering how critical he had been of her during an earlier show. Her progression to a very talented performer since then should allow the meanies to regret their reactions. It is Simon's show after all.
She's very talented but that caused her so much stress. Her mother should have given her a few mores years to find her "stage legs" even if Hollie thought she was ready. I know she's doing well know but there're all kinds of routes you can take...
Gosh how mean some of you are. I'm a professional musician and singer and know what it's like to be so passionate about something that nothing less than the best you can possibly do will suffice. The kid is ten years old and already driven by the power of music. You can SEE it's not her mother pushing her, and you can SEE that she's not a spoilt brat. If you look with your eyes & heart that is, and not with your jealousy and acid tongue.
I'm sorry but - GUYS!! Take it easy! She's only 10 years old. And i'm pretty sure that about none of you could have done it any better. What about those last notes, could you have hit those notes without screaming? I don't think so. I'm sorry but do you know how hard it is to sing a song with that high notes? I think it's amazing that she even dare to pick a song that is that hard to sing - And she sings it with that few fails! :)
She is brilliant! If things never went wrong there would be no blooper or out-take shows and coming back, at her age, on live TV was really something. I hope she does really well in future. As for some of the comments, some people have no heart and no understanding of a mother's love.
Sorry if im being harsh, but i think she is a brat tbh :/ sorry ...yeah it must be hard but getting her mother up there! she stoped crying and started again..i like to see things screw up like strictly come dancing with mark rumpakash but that just got to me!! big time!!
Awesome girl. How does she get so much dynamics out of such a small amount of breath? Incredible singer for an adult, let alone a child. You who are slamming her will probably be cleaning her toilets one day. Losers.
Whether it was real or not, getting over a breakdown on stage is always an essential learning curb in show business- singing, acting or whatever. It's sad it happened on live television- but it happens to the best of us!

Okay look here everybody. There seems to be a lot of hate and love comments. In my opinion, you both have valid points. Yeah, there weren't really any tears, and she did throw a bit of a tantrum towards the end when they were telling her they didn't have time, but we also have to remember that at 10 you're still so young! I've had loads of panic attacks that go just like that. I definitely see both ways but please, can we stop with the name-calling and condescending remarks?

@StarDylan1 Yes, Simon makes the rules, it's his show.
When I was in the 5th grade, I was nominated for the 'homeroom representative' for the student council. I wrote out a small speech to give on why I thought I should be the representative. I went up to the podium, and in front or 15 or so other kids I had what people call 'stage fright'. It's exactly what happened to Hollie.
If you've never been in a situation like that, you have no idea how embarrassing and frightening it can be.
@lampsyno8 You're calling a ten year old girl a bitch? I think you need to go see someone about your inferiority complex. Your comment merely shows your level of immaturity and compassion for other people. Good luck in life with that attitude, and I honestly hope you never have children of your own.

@xSakijix there is something dark about this kid..another imelda marcos or evita peron in the making...the way she smiles..is very dangerous. evil child..
Thats probably the result of a coach making her practice to late the night before. I felt bad though because she is only ten and was probably really nervous. and on top of that i don't think she would have done it on purpose. I mean how embarassing is this for a ten year old. She probably is still teased about it by bullies at school.
ant and dec are the sweetest guys i've ever seen in my life! ♥ Hollie is just BRILLIANT! AMAZING SINGER! i think all the bad comments are just because the people is Jealous... GOOD for her! love ant and dec :D
I think she could not do so well in semi round cause it not the song she is good at, whereas in Final she can sing very well....... anyway i love her and her beautiful voices
And really, even if her age was the main reason they were so lenient on allowing a second attempt at her performance, that still seems fine to me. Only a person with half a brain would treat a ten year old girl the same way as a grown adult.
The difference between giving a child her second chance or witholding it could be whether or not she has a paralyzing fear of failure in every area of her life -- for the rest of her life.
@isleschild Hollie had a lot of wind under her wings to be able to fly this high. Lots of supportive people, and maybe a good portion of that support was because she was young. What's wrong with that? You protect children, which they did by giving her another chance.
She didn't get an auto-win. She actually has talent.
If you think that stepping onto the stage of competition means you are all equalized, then I have news for you. Talent competitions can be serious, but this isn't war.
I saw some very cutting remarks on other copies of this clip (like Hollie's Semi-final part 1 only), and I won't mention names, but I would just like to say that the first time I saw this video (and every time since), I was, and am, in complete agreement with the crowd and Simon's comments when Hollie broke down. I loved how the crowd had cheered and applauded her, and was very thankful she was given a second chance, sweet girl. The judges comments after her second chance were great as well.
if you know something about lightings on the stage and video cameras, you'd probably know that sometimes with the lights, tears wouldn't be easily shot on the stage. I saw her photo from the news websites after the semi-final, and I am sure I saw tears from those photos.
she could not controle her break down, i understand from personal experiance because i have anxiety disorder and you cant controle the break down its like stage fright exept 10 times worse and it follows you forever.
I know this was like one year ago, but I don't think some people realize that her "tantrum" wasn't a tantrum, it might have been a panic attack or anxiety. It's really quite terrible to have one of those happen to you, and that's why there wasn't any giant tears or anything. I could be wrong, but I could be right.
Shoddy editing work, at 2:34 they cut to the close camera, but it's far too late, they missed the actual moment as her mind processed the information that she wouldn't get a second chance. That first delicious moment of shock that normally lasts only a fraction of a second before the despair sets in... you can barely see it from the zoomed out shot. I wanted to see it in her eyes.
I'm actually feel sorry for the adults that feel like they need to insult and make fun of a child to make themselves feel better. I'm embarrassed for you.
Now she is a talented kid but i actually do think she is acting and that she is a spoilt brat. She was fine during the performance then out of no where she just bursts out crying. Then when they say she can not start again she stamps her foot and burst outs crying even though she was not even crying....tears were not coming from her eyes and yes people will say that she is just a child and that it was hard for her but their have been younger contestants then her
Yes she's a beautiful singer and it's perfectly understandable for her to break down , but it is just absurd that she was given a second chance. The way she cried when they said how she didn't have time to sing again, it just shows that she's nothing but a spoilt brat. Imagine if she'd won and cried in the middle of The Royal Variety Performance in front of the Queen. She shouldn't have been allowed to sing again and definetly shouldn't have been put through to the final. Its completely unfair.
I find it sad that adults say such mean things about a little girl. She's a kid guys, give her a break. She did amazing and that is one of the bravest things I have ever seen.
What kind of people do we have in this world that pick on little kids. Sad, really sad.
I find it sad that adults say such mean things about a little girl. She's a kid guys, give her a break. She did amazing and that is one of the bravest things I have ever seen.

think dummy, if she can fake emotions, in front of full close-up camera-live stream, she deserves second chance for having second talent, actually better than first one, for children at this age can't act like grown-ups
-_-'' she is not acting. she is a kid with the pressure of a 30 year old. even 30 year olds cant handle it sometimes. what the hell do you expect from a child?
She's had a breakdown, because she got nervous & it upset her, she's only 10, what do you expect? about the temper tantrum, they usually swing their arms around, shake their head, stump, jump around and throw themselves on the floor kicking & demanding attention, which is usually done by a spoiled brat. I didn't see any of that. She was crying & pleading for another chance. A spoiled brat usually thinks their too good & won't mess up because of nerves.
@MrWeatherdude1984 Also a temper tantrum child usually & always screams & yells. I didn't see any of that either. about the tears I have 2 sisters younger then me & when they were lil girls they would get upset & cry without producing any tears.
@MrWeatherdude1984 Even if Hollie did have a major temper tantrum which wasn't true, since they exaggerated everything about Hollie, just to pick on her. My lil sister at Hollie's age, had major tamper tantrums issues, & even behaved like a spoiled brat, yet she was always a real sweet heart which made me forget about it & I love her a lot, we're very close. What Hollie did happened more then a year ago & should be forgotten, since she didn't do it again.
@MrWeatherdude1984 Let's not forget there is a reason why Hollie broke down. I think the producers, promoters, fans, etc are responsible for making her nervous since they favored SuBoyles & didn't want any competitors. They're responsible for Jamie Pugh & Natalie Okri mess ups. Why? Money of course, they wanted to make money out of SuBoyles, otherwise if Hollie or the others were ahead it would have ruined them, since they made SueBoyles world famous.
@weathermusic1984 So what if Susan Boyles broke down? 1st of all, she's grown up, her reactions would have been much different. Yes, they would have given her a 2nd chance without any hesitation, right away, otherwise the whole world would have been against BGT, since they made her world famous. They didn't even want Hollie to go again. I'm not hating on SueBoyles. I thought she was also a good singer, but my all time fav is Hollie & I felt so bad for her. I pray to God for Hollie.
Bravest girl in the word.. yeah right. there are girls her age fighting terminal cancer and leukemia and so much worst that singing in public
how many people had the same stage fright like that and didn't have another chance child or not! (but her singing is very good) who agrees with this comment thumps up
i think that she just forgot the lyrics but you have to remeber she is only ten years old ! and with a voice like that she can go really far in life . because i know that i wouldnt have any guts to do that espeically at ten years old. and even after getting embarrassed on stage she wanted to sing again ! if i were her i wouldnt of even showed my face in public . then her second performance was great !
The poster of this video seems to think that the tears are fake and a means of getting through with little talent. We all know by now that Simon will tell it like it is. If she were a talentless cry baby looking to use tears as a crutch. Simon would have called her on it. That's a lot of pressure for anyone, for a 10 year old, overwhelming. Proof that it was not fake. At 1:28 she sees her mom and calls out "mommy." With open arms. That's what a child does when they cry for fear and anxiety.
@ToAsTiZnIcE She wasn't crying tears flowing out of sadness. It was a cry brought on by a panic attack. I wish I had that kind of talent, and the guts to go along with it. Most people would run off the stage and never come back. She not only came back, but had a great performance. She's not the best singer in the world, but she is very good for a 10 year old. With age her talent will grow, and I'm sure her bravery will too.
Plee,plee, pleeeaseee!

Thats probably the result of a coach making her practice to late the night before. I felt bad though because she is only ten and was probably really nervous. and on top of that i don't think she would have done it on purpose. I mean how embarassing is this for a ten year old. She probably is still teased about it by bullies at school.

Just another comment in support of Hollie Steel.
And really, even if her age was the main reason they were so lenient on allowing a second attempt at her performance, that still seems fine to me. Only a person with half a brain would treat a ten year old girl the same way as a grown adult.
The difference between giving a child her second chance or witholding it could be whether or not she has a paralyzing fear of failure in every area of her life -- for the rest of her life.
isleschild 10 months ago
@isleschild Hollie had a lot of wind under her wings to be able to fly this high. Lots of supportive people, and maybe a good portion of that support was because she was young. What's wrong with that? You protect children, which they did by giving her another chance.
She didn't get an auto-win. She actually has talent.
If you think that stepping onto the stage of competition means you are all equalized, then I have news for you. Talent competitions can be serious, but this isn't war.

She's only 10 years old.... I couldnt sing on stage... Im 26
She is very brave...
Think she should have won..

I saw her photo from the news websites after the semi-final, and I am sure I saw tears from those photos.

she could not controle her break down, i understand from personal experiance because i have anxiety disorder and you cant controle the break down its like stage fright exept 10 times worse and it follows you forever.
joshcoocoo445 1 year ago

I wanted to see it in her eyes.

yenniferlee 1 year ago 11
Now she is a talented kid but i actually do think she is acting and that she is a spoilt brat. She was fine during the performance then out of no where she just bursts out crying. Then when they say she can not start again she stamps her foot and burst outs crying even though she was not even crying....tears were not coming from her eyes and yes people will say that she is just a child and that it was hard for her but their have been younger contestants then her
crazyfrogexpert 1 year ago
Yes she's a beautiful singer and it's perfectly understandable for her to break down , but it is just absurd that she was given a second chance. The way she cried when they said how she didn't have time to sing again, it just shows that she's nothing but a spoilt brat. Imagine if she'd won and cried in the middle of The Royal Variety Performance in front of the Queen. She shouldn't have been allowed to sing again and definetly shouldn't have been put through to the final. Its completely unfair.

think dummy, if she can fake emotions, in front of full close-up camera-live stream, she deserves second chance for having second talent, actually better than first one, for children at this age can't act like grown-ups

zebscy 1 year ago
She's had a breakdown, because she got nervous & it upset her, she's only 10, what do you expect? about the temper tantrum, they usually swing their arms around, shake their head, stump, jump around and throw themselves on the floor kicking & demanding attention, which is usually done by a spoiled brat. I didn't see any of that. She was crying & pleading for another chance. A spoiled brat usually thinks their too good & won't mess up because of nerves.
God bless you Hollie!
MrWeatherdude1984 1 year ago 11
@MrWeatherdude1984 Also a temper tantrum child usually & always screams & yells. I didn't see any of that either. about the tears I have 2 sisters younger then me & when they were lil girls they would get upset & cry without producing any tears.
MrWeatherdude1984 1 year ago 8
@MrWeatherdude1984 Even if Hollie did have a major temper tantrum which wasn't true, since they exaggerated everything about Hollie, just to pick on her. My lil sister at Hollie's age, had major tamper tantrums issues, & even behaved like a spoiled brat, yet she was always a real sweet heart which made me forget about it & I love her a lot, we're very close. What Hollie did happened more then a year ago & should be forgotten, since she didn't do it again.
MrWeatherdude1984 1 year ago 11
@MrWeatherdude1984 Let's not forget there is a reason why Hollie broke down. I think the producers, promoters, fans, etc are responsible for making her nervous since they favored SuBoyles & didn't want any competitors. They're responsible for Jamie Pugh & Natalie Okri mess ups. Why? Money of course, they wanted to make money out of SuBoyles, otherwise if Hollie or the others were ahead it would have ruined them, since they made SueBoyles world famous.
weathermusic1984 1 year ago 20
@weathermusic1984 So what if Susan Boyles broke down? 1st of all, she's grown up, her reactions would have been much different. Yes, they would have given her a 2nd chance without any hesitation, right away, otherwise the whole world would have been against BGT, since they made her world famous. They didn't even want Hollie to go again. I'm not hating on SueBoyles. I thought she was also a good singer, but my all time fav is Hollie & I felt so bad for her. I pray to God for Hollie.

mik1511 1 year ago
i think that she just forgot the lyrics but you have to remeber she is only ten years old ! and with a voice like that she can go really far in life . because i know that i wouldnt have any guts to do that espeically at ten years old. and even after getting embarrassed on stage she wanted to sing again ! if i were her i wouldnt of even showed my face in public . then her second performance was great !
mik1511 1 year ago
The poster of this video seems to think that the tears are fake and a means of getting through with little talent. We all know by now that Simon will tell it like it is. If she were a talentless cry baby looking to use tears as a crutch. Simon would have called her on it. That's a lot of pressure for anyone, for a 10 year old, overwhelming. Proof that it was not fake. At 1:28 she sees her mom and calls out "mommy." With open arms. That's what a child does when they cry for fear and anxiety.

omg what a turd, she wasnt even crying!
ToAsTiZnIcE 1 year ago
@ToAsTiZnIcE She wasn't crying tears flowing out of sadness. It was a cry brought on by a panic attack. I wish I had that kind of talent, and the guts to go along with it. Most people would run off the stage and never come back. She not only came back, but had a great performance. She's not the best singer in the world, but she is very good for a 10 year old. With age her talent will grow, and I'm sure her bravery will too.
onefarmville 1 year ago 3
I feel so bad for her. Can you imagine all the pressure? On a 10 year old! Trust me, that was not fake crying.
