  • it just " hey hey you you i wanna be bla bla bla" that the same

  • Avril Lavigne isn't a real musician/songwriter, unless you consider such a low level of abilty actual songwriting, but that would be foolish because then anyone could just do anything terrible and call it music. She doesn't even know anything about punk rock, which is fine except for the fact that she reps it like she knows about it. If anyone ever asked her what kind of punk bands she likes she'd name like 3 or 4 classic bands that eveyone knows, and like one or two obscure ones to sound smart.

  • @shakesula21 avril's not punk-rock

  • @violetgirl1996 Well, duh. Punk rock never gets played on the radio. She thinks/tries to make people think she is, though. That's what the commentor below me is talking about too.

  • First of all, she never claimed to be punk rock. Secondly, it's not that 'real' punk is that musically challenging either. Being able to name 6 punk bands sounds like knowing something about it to me.

btw I'd like to hear some of your music too ^^

  • Wow... if I put some green streaks in my hair and gave people the finger for no reason do you think I could convince junior high school kids that I was punk rocker too? Avril is such a genius... like a reincarnation of Johnny Rotten. But the metaphor is kinda breaking down because Johnny Rotten isn't dead.... and he isn't mentally challenged either... bummer.

  • @NeoVictorianX Why are you stealing the posts I want to make? You must be some kind of Avril...er asshole.

  • Are you kidding me? The tune is completely different! The only things similar are the lyrics.

  • @JermzzzyFTW Let`s look at hiphop;)

  • What about the chorus to the Rolling Stone's "Get Off OF My Cloud". So did the Rubinoos rip off the Rolling Stones?

  • @belliottx not just cuz they hey you, but she took the boyfriend part and just changed girlfriend, hell she even took the beat. I think it was more of her cowriters though.

  • I am Canadian and love many Canadian artist however, Avril Lavigne doesn't cut my top 10 - "Hey, hey, you, you, get a new profession!!!!

  • dosent even make sense...

  • Bullshit! this is not plagiarism, so what if the lyrics happens to sound alike that does not have anything to do with plagiarism words are free to use, you can own melodies but not words, well maybe if it were the whole lyrics but it is not.

And as already pointed out here buy several people the melodies are not even close to be the same.

Great musicians such as Avril Lavigne don´t need to "ripoff others"

The Rubinoos just wants money, hahaha ridiculous

  • Chalk this one up to overpopulation. The musical ecosystem is no longer able to support songwriters' originality. First it's a few song lyrics, next it's the polar ice caps. HEED MY WARNING.

  • The record companies know that these idiots can't possibly come up with something good so they take old music and make it new..

  • LOL OH SHIT!

  • no

  • Honestly, other than that one part in the chorus... there isn't a lot of similarity.

  • Of COURSE she did. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

  • One steal might be overlooked or forgiven as simple mistake, but she keeps doing it again and again and again!

    watch?v=tPKb-8akv0E

  • she didnt steal the song cuz their not the same words

  • song thief!!!

  • Maybe it was used as an inspiration?

  • @qznroz Perhaps it was a homage.

  • @fep70 If it was a homage, she'd mention the original band...

Personally, I'd never heard the Rubinoos song before and thought the chorus sounded not unlike Toni Basil's Hey Mickey (which I keep swearing blind is by Toyah Wilcox for some reason...)

  • I doubt she even wrote it. If you blame someone, blame those behind the scenes, like the guy who produced this song, Dr. Luke.

  • Yeah damnit!

  • Sooooo the repeated "Hey" and "You" constitutes as plagiarism? To be honest, this one is bullshit. Go listen to BoyzNoize's "Yeah" and then Will.I.Am.'s "Dance" Will.I.Am. straight up stole that one. But this, this is definitely not stealing nor plagiarism.

  • honestly ppl aren't making thingz up bcuz seriously she is copying other peopel's songz

  • She did'nt still dislike this vid i That company is evil so shut the fudge up !

  • You have a LOT of time to waste on these things. Avril didn't steal the song!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Were the Rubinoos even aware of how many other songs use the words 'hey hey you you?'.....Because that seems to be the only thing the two songs have in common. Lyrics and melody are completely different and don't sound anything alike.

Look up The Rolling Stones 'Get Off Of My Cloud.' They use 'hey hey you you' too...

  • dude i beleve avril cause that song doesnt even sound like hers

  • prob an accident, i mean that song i so old = =ll

  • i think now that the planet is going bankrupt that there changing the rules to sue people for anything now they what.i think it fucked up like Avril says get over it.like i say cry me a fuckin river next time come up with a better song.

  • you guys are so fuckin bullshit. she did not still i never heard of this group and i heard it. sound nothing like it. i am a big fan of hers and if you were too then you would know they don't even sound a like at all..she write all her music you would know that if you were a fan..i think there jealous lo her cuz she came out with a better song then they did.i also think that cuz nobody listen to them or heard of them that they want to make a guick buck cuz they are broke.

  • guilty,pay up bitch!

  • this is all bs! these two songs don't even sound close. i grew up in brooklyn - "hey you" & all variations of it have floated around my block & schoolyard my whole life. so hey hey you you dudes w/ too much time on your hands - put them to better use:)

  • shame. i honestly liked Avril Lavigne song until she copied it.

  • This is most likely a blatant rip off, but at the same time I believe Avril when she says she's never heard of the Rubinioos simply because I have a hard time believing that she writes any of her own music.

  • It's possible this is blatant, but I kind of believe Avril Lavingne simply because I can't believe she writes any of her own music.

  • the only similarity i see is when they sing "hey hey you you i wanna be your boyfriend/girlfriend" And they don't even sing it with the same melody...

  • @iwantmorejam The odds of that alone happening is slim to none. And the melody and beat were similar.

  • @iwantmorejam The writers may have altered it a little but it's essentially the same.

  • Thief!!! she has ripped a lot of band's music. You people are all in lala land. This girl has looks but lacks originality and creativity.Best advice to her is shut her mouth and go back to modelling.Dumb as post poser.

  • um no she didnt......it might have the same sound.....but different lyrics DUH!!!! leave her alone!!!!!!!! damn people!!!! gosh

  • All music is influenced by passed musicians. Real plagiarists are people like Coldplay

  • they kinda sound simliar but not really

  • they don't even sound that similar. I kinda think the second one suckks

  • dont just blame avril listen to the rolling stones get off my cloud and listen

  • Great work by PhilLaw in San Francisco presenting the evidence & reaching the settlement on this one.

Hey Avril, I've got some kids that will sell original works to you.

  • @MyRepresentativeOrg ....Hey, PhilLaw, thats right, it was a great job by attorney Nick Carlin on that case

  • there are also similarities with another song called Girlfriend by Blush.

  • For some reason I think she might actually not have copied it. IT is so easy to get a chorus, or a melody, or a rhythm to sound very similar to something else, even when you have never heard it before. However, IMHO, I believe she might have heard it like years earlier, and her subconsciousness kind of had it on her mind when she wrote the lyrics (assuming she did)... That tends to happen to musicians and lyricists.

  • this is a waste of time avril lavigne is a great music writer why can't people just admit it and even if she did copy it's not exactly word to word so no big deal

  • ya i dont think she'd bother stealing from the gay street boys 80s edition but i think shes stolen your brain -.-" #LOL

  • Avril Lavigne didn't wrote the music of the song alone!!!!First Dr.Luke find the sound with the claps and because the lyrics with the song were good with the music they left the song with that music ...!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @daisydeath1 nobody said she didnt write her lyrics dumbass but its obvious that she stole the song itself ..but shes a whore anyways so who gives a fuckk

  • @cgart96 all avril fans do

  • Actually, I'm a huge fan of oldies music and I'd never heard "I wanna be your Boyfriend", either. And considering it came out before she was born, it's very likely she'd never heard it.

  • They sound nothing alike!!

  • FAKE AND GAY

  • they sound nothing alike

  • I swear to God, people can think of anything to put Avril down and make up reasons to hate her. The song came out waaayyyy before she was born, so chances are, she never heard it before. Plagiarizing would be ripping off the lyrics AND the melody of the song. The only similarity I hear is the chorus, which is just the "hey, hey, you, you" and the "boyfriend/girlfriend part." The melodies are completely different.

  • @Imagination8Madness are you druged or something ?

  • @sapinholeonardo6 Why? Is it wrong to express my thoughts? Why don't you keep your comments to yourself and shut the fuck up.

  • @Imagination8Madness No , it ain't . I'm just saying that because you can clearly see that those song have the same rithym !

  • @Imagination8Madness

But... Avril doesn't write her own songs. She never has. None of those artists like her do. Their songs are all written by professional songwriters. Singers like Avril generally have input in small ways so that they can say that they write the music, but they don't.

  • @aCynicalPie She does. She wrote half of the songs for her new record on her own and co-wrote the rest. What makes you think she doesn't write her own songs?

  • @Imagination8Madness Yeah. The writers of the song wrote it. And, they took it from that song. Maybe subconsciously, idk? But you don't just accidentally steal the same tune.

  • @mleroks18 but it's NOT the same tune.

  • This made no sense..

  • The only part that is the same is the chorus....

  • @EliorFein i think your totally right and the rubinoos song sounds a lot like "get off of my cloud" by the rolling stones so can they really judge?

  • Wow so much plagerism these days! Besides this, Take it Off was a ripoff of The Streets of Cairo, OMG stole from The Simpsons, Born this Way riped off Express Youself, and the funniest I belive: California Gurls ripped off Du Hast!

  • I'm also of the mind that Avril probably isn't so much ripping off The Rubinoos as her producers are. The song was written years before she was even born and I can believe that she wasn't familiar with it. I certainly wasn't, and I'm a bit older than her and actually prefer music from that era.

  • rip off

  • I agree with you Backupoflaura. That other song sound gay anyway so if she did steal it idc. She made it sound better so ppl actually want to listen to it

  • NADA QUE VER!!!!

    NI SUENA IGUAL, QUE ESTUPIDEZ!!!!

  • shitttttt happens :P

  • who cares if she stole it?

    AVRIL ROCKS :')

  • they dont "sound" like eachother at al. sure, same lyrics almost.

  • @N3CR1S I got bad news for you... You're tone deaf.

  • @marianopicco "sounding similiar" is much more than just what tones is being used.

Its about beat, bpm, which instruments that is being used, the composition those instruments are playing in, the relative volumes of the instruments in the composition, melody of the lyrics, and the actual lyrics.

I know for a fact that i am not tone deaf, have you verified that you are not stupid?

  • @N3CR1S So Prince Charming by Adam Ant despite having totally different instruments, bpm, tempo, etc, is not a copy of Rolf Harris' War Canoe?

Cos the courts decided it was. And it's about the same situation here.

  • @marianopicco Ofcourse "Prince charming" is a copy. Had never hear either of them, listened to them now.

"prince charming" and "war canoe" always have the same amount of syllables per line, at the same places

"girlfriend" and "boyfriend" only have the same amount fo syllables during "hey hey, i want to be your girlfriend". Prior, and after, that ther is a difference in amount of syllables per line and where they are put.

  • its so easy to make a song ^_^ just involve sex scandals and strippers

  • @luislopez351 louis, that is one of the best all time comments on so many songs out..I needed a laff today, huge thanx for giving me that laff :-)

  • Why gives a fuck? These days it's so hard to actually come up with anything new as it has all been done before. Its not like she remade the song.

  • Definitely inspired from it, but stolen is a complete different thing.

  • This is so dumb.. always drama

  • people write response songs all the time.

  • To be fair, I had never heard of the other song either, but I don't doubt that she stole it.

  • watch axis of awesome - 4 chords, it will explain all........

  • @diskize It's one thing that many songs have the same chords, but when the lyrics are almost the same too. Come on, seriously. The odds are very VERY low.

  • this bitch steals all her shit

  • those don't sound enough like each other

  • @crownedkitty67 hahah the lyrics are the same and you say they don't sound lik each other_??

  • @xDamnLovelyx the lyrics are totally different i think the only word they share is I

and no they aren't anything alike

    really? you people sicken me

you just want to take advantage over any drama stirring and make it worst because its fun

  • rip off.

  • does she even claim to write her own music?

  • i dont think she stole anything

well its coincidence but only is similar in the chorus

  • Avril said that The Rolling Stones and Ramones also have songs with "hey hey you you" and she pointed out that they are very generic, common lyrics.

A musicologist studied the two songs and stated that the Rubinoos have no evidence whatsoever that Avril stole from them.

  • ho cares'? :D

  • I DONT SEE THE RESEMBLENECE,

    JUSTIN BEIBER 4 LIFE

  • The Rubinoos stealed from Rolling Stones, and Avril stole from the Rubinoos. It's basically the copy of the copy.

  • As If she writes her own shit... Why would this suprise anyone? She's manufactured, a completely prefabricated record-company confection. It's not really her fault; She's not evil, just stupid! Ever heard the one where she rips off Peaches, too?

  • I don't think she even knows. I think the record company is responsible for it. I know that record companies instantly looking for ideas in forgotten bands and albums that's a fact - that's I know for a fact.

Shame on them thinking no one will ever remember.

If she knew shame on her as well yet I doubt she ever heard it. there are 2 "writers" to the song along with her, Beckley and Gottwald, that's so totally a record company set up.

  • @EliorFein just one small thing about that...she claimed SHE wrote the lyrics, tune, and all else...it just kinda popped into her head...well yea, after hearing it some place...I have no problem with anyone sayin' "I love this song by ?? and so I'm gonna sing it, hope you like it." that's giving credit where credit is due

  • @EliorFein totaly agree. besides, it sounds too much of a rock 1980's song. i dont think avirl would listen to THAT kind of music

  • @EliorFein Yeah

  • She ripped off LUSH, check it out

  • Hey..Hey..You...Got out of my cloud!! Stones did it too!! JAJA

  • she dide't steal it

  • the bans sue avril

and the court dismissed their case :P

    Avril wins ... yaaaay :D

  • @KpopR9 the band* sorry :P

  • She totally stole that shit!! HAHAAAA!!

  • who care she didnt even make girlfriend dr.dre did

  • she's hot : who cares? :)

  • this video is fake and gay, if girlfriend is stolen from whatever the other song is than Avril Lavigne is a hippie

  • So we decide? While you put in your opinions on the matter? "She says she never heard their song" and you reply "Right"

Such nice neutral comment you got there ;-)

Heavy sarcasm and then the line "You decide".. That pretty lame, if you actually want some prober feedback..

Anyway I don't think that the songs have anything in common except for the "Hey hey" and that is just too little, to be called anything but a coincidence..

  • its a little little fragment, it was pure coinscidênce. Try to search for the steal that a brasilian band made with an american band(yes im brasilian, my shame)

  • I don't think its enough

  • Chantal's accusation was tiny anyway. The only thing she was complaining about was similar song titles- she wrote a song named Contagious yet it wasn't the Contagious Avril had on her The Bsst Damn Thing album. Chantal apologized anyway- so you can't count that as plagiarism. Neither can you actually count Girlfriend as one either. The only similar thing it has w/ The Rubinoos is a few words here & there. Oh and Rolling Stones' Get Off My Cloud... Sound VERY alike, more than Avril's. Rubinoos p

  • @heyitscarter17 Well the judge did. In the Rubinoos case, they were awarded every dime Avril made on that song, or will make, ever, plus 250k punitive.

  • Sucks anyway.

  • Did you ever think that it's either a sample or a slightly changed cover song ?

  • @Spottedfeather cover, if she had put the original song on the CD credits...by the way it's an anoying song

  • It is possible that she didn't hear the origonal cos in music class I did a short melody on the electric piano thingy mabobby and it was (almost) exactly the same as one of my friends songs and we don't have the same taste in music, but it is also possible for Avril to have copied that part of the song for her own.

  • lol breaking nyc sent me here

  • @RODNEYJOHNNUNN same here! lol

  • @RODNEYJOHNNUNN same lol

  • @RODNEYJOHNNUNN SAME!!!! RWJ all the way!! :)

  • @RODNEYJOHNNUNN me too!

  • @RODNEYJOHNNUNN ik same

  • You'd have to be stupid to believe that she hadn't heard the song before.

  • the only thing similar is that both the songs suck. haha.

    i agree with 68 corvette08:

"hey! hey! you! you! get off of my cloud!" --> rolling stones, 1965

"hey! hey! you! you! i wan't to be your boyfriend --> rubinoos, 1978

point is, everyone borrows. who knows where the stones got theirs...maybe muddy waters, where they got their name?

  • bullshit.

  • almost every song by her is a rip off.

  • @MlleCantonVaud oh, I did not hear that, but I also heard that the writer that helped avril write it also helped the other guys and ya she could use an education

  • "you decide"

So.. I decide that this doesn't matter. Like both songs

  • What if she really haven't heard of that song before? Come on, at the height of the Beatles' fame, no one else cared about others' shit.

  • There are so many songs out there that it shouldn't suprise anyone that some are similar. Most pop sounds basically the same anyway.

  • first of all, avril really has never heard of whos ever song your claiming she stole from, trust me, i grew up with her, were like sisters!! and second, why do people always assume shit when they dont even know the people they're talking about! so you stupid bitches just need to shut the fuck up! when she writes a song, it takes her forever! ive written a lot of her songs with her! so quit assuming shit and go die in a whole for all i care!

  • the law suit was settled and they are 2 different songs, avril did not steal it

  • @Maytimepunkz , what a pathetic attempt at spin. The only reason Lavinge agreed to an out of court settlement was because she knew she would lose if the case went to trial. She's a creepy little thief who got caught and decided to pay her way out of it, end of story. And pystagirl needs to develop a vocabulary - her vulgar spewings are rather dull.

  • the lawsuit was settled, and they decided that they were 2 different songs!

  • they arent that similar. a hole.

  • The melody is similar enough for there to be a lawsuit. Enough said.

    Should have been more careful.

  • i dont believe that avril lavigne steal that song girlfriend.maybe its just a coincidence and the only lines that were the same is "hey hey you you i want to be your...."

and avril's song sounds more great than the rubinoos, but i dont hate rubinoos,i dont even know them honestly.=)

  • I think it's just a coincidence. I've never heard of that song before either.

  • NOT EVEN CLOSE

  • So you are saying she stole a song which was a minor hit before she was born... Just because they say "hey you i want to be your boyfriend". The songs are nothing alike

  • she can steal all she wants....i would still eat her ass

  • So? shes hot she can do whatever she wants! lol jk

  • Just like Michael Bolton never heard of the Isley Brothers before. A likely story.

  • STOLEN

  • Sounds like the Rolling Stones also. So get over it

  • @sdullum lol because it says "

    hey you" what a cunt

  • sorry i barely see similarities. it really is only hey hey you you ___________friend

  • the old one is way better

  • yeah, only the choruses are slightly similar.

  • That could just be a coincidence. <3

  • Ok I love how stupid people are -_- there is stealing a song then their is doing a different version of it,Good Example Gwen Stephanie- If I where a rich Girl

Original song "fiddler on the roof" if I where a rich MAN,Similar lyrics similar beat not considered Plagiarism because its a different song

its taken from the opposite genders View Example 2: Sean Kingston-beautiful girls took the beat to Stand by me. If I where to do this song change the beat not the lyrics thats plagiarism

  • @Fantasytiger86 then why would she have to claim she never heard it?

  • @fannypaxx assuming that you ment she claimed she never heard it then ok ya she is just being a cunt I am not a fan of her either way. Its very possible she never heard it just because you play music doesn't make you cultured or knowing of other bands especially older ones. Why she would have to is beyond me but I didn't say that she had to claim she never heard or that she did. Maybe I am just confused as to what your response has to do with anything I posted. clarify?

  • @Fantasytiger86 You asserted that she wrote her song in homage to the song by the Rubinoos. However, she claimed never to have heard of that song, so it's impossible for it to have been a "different version" of it.

  • o that bitch!
