also there's a random question i wanted to ask you, i always smoke roll ups, do many people actually use rolling tobacco over there? in the machine/stores all you seem to see is the packs of cigarettes...
Japan is very nice place to buy home, if you live with your family, want to rase kids, live forever and die there. But if you want to sell a house, most owner will not get a profit. Because after 10 year from the house was build, value of a house dramaticaly go down like a used car even you spend a lot of mony for the renovation, that is defferent from the States. Usualy real estate agency do not show a house that people are still living, they want to show a house that is empty in japan.
Congrats on buying a house! Wow, how exciting! I haven't been visiting youtube for quite a while now, so I'm really happy I stopped to watch your video, Todd. I can't wait to see the house! You guys must be so excited. What an adventure! Thank you so much for sharing this with the world.
Thanks a lot I am currently shooting and trying to get something out soon to kick of the new play list. There is a lot of detail to cover and at the same time trying to keep on schedule wile stopping to shoot footage.
Yeah, just don't record your house number or the exact location. There are loads of other people on here who record outside their house, even with a number the street is hard to figure out.
As for you bring a target, I find that unlikely. While you may be popular on YouTube, do you think anyone would really want to take the time to find you and do something?
I think I am not a target but being permanently located makes for a little risk as a Youtuber. I am being just being careful. I don't get into controversial issues so I think I am safe but gotta be careful.
Awesome news mate on the anniversary & your new place. Reckon the playlist is the go, but will happily subscribe to your new channel if you choose to start one. Looking forward to the vids : )
Awesome I just bought a house in the states that's 112 years old so it will be interesting to see your to do list as you go along your repairs/renovations.
Congratulations on being a homeowner in Japan. I wouldn't do a separate channel. I don't know why everyone needs a million channels. Your channel is about your life, I think a play list would be a good way to go.
Not exactly.. JET is the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme - a government program that hires ALTs (Assistant Language Teachers) to work in Japanese public schools. Many JETs are ALTs (some are CIRs) and many ALTs call themselves JETs. But you can be an ALT for many other companies in Japan.
hey congrats on both 1 year in japan and your new home! i prefer playlist...as i see most people commenting also do. also!: in your time looking for a home did you ever consider a condominuim? if so, i think it'd be cool to do a vid with your views on it.
I got a spring pole at the hardware store. and an outlet adapter for the ceiling socket. Then I just clipped the lights up and tied the cords up with plastic ties.
First and Foremost, Congratulations. I am eager to hear about the housing/constructing industry in Japan! BTW I think you should just keep it in the youtube acc and just categorize your videos by playlists... I think that would be best...?
hey Todd! Congrats on the new house, bratha! nice to see your still around. Haven't seen a video in a while.
I see your at almost 800 subscribers! Congrats on that too! I say, and this is just my 2 cents, build-up the "Toddatron" channel past 1000 subscribers, make partner then build another channel. Again, just a random opinion. The new channel you were thinking of sounds like a great idea too. A channel dedicated to the rebuilding of your new house. I think that's original man.Cheers
The Japanese home construction industry is very competitive, I guess. There are some nationwide home building companies which don't exist in US. I guess some of them go abroad.
Exciting times!! =) This is really going to be great for you!! What you are saying about a new channel or a play list is a Hard one. On one hand it would be good to keep it all on one channel. but on the other hand a new channel would possibly help with further work prospects in the construction industry...meaning you have a stand alone channel to show your skills =).....however..It's all up to you. Can't wait either way!!!! I'm up for helping out in Mar/April tho! Take Care ya Bloke!
I think maybe a playlist would work, I think you have some of the best videos out there in terms of information, I feel like a playlist within your current channel would help to get more exposure for your channel.
So you're going to be able to keep your current job with your new house? Or do you have to FIND NEW EMPLOYMENT NOW?
No I still can get to work and my contract is not up till end of DEC. There are plenty of companies out there as well so I will be fine. I can say I am still 40 min from down town Tokyo. Not in the same city though.
I think playlist. Then you would have two channels and twice as much work to do Vlog's for both. Plus the other channel would just be house stuff so again just a playlist. As your #1 fan I really think you should stay right here and just keep the good times rolling! ^_^
I would vote for a playlist on your channel. It's not really a hassle to have two separate channels but keeping all ur video's in one place would be nice. Looking forward to the journey ahead with your new house. I would like to extend my congrats to you and your wife. All the best in the journey ahead. Congrats on the new house! My suggestion would be to just go with a playlist. It would be less work and could work for a mini series. If you do go with a new channel you have to ask yourself if its just for the process of going to buy a house or will you add on to it? Anyways looking forward to more videos. :)
Yea play list seems the smart choice. No add ons yet just things like new bathroom, kitchen, sheet rock and insulation and of course electrical up grades. Moving a wall too. Some stuff is being done by Japanese carpenters under my watchful eye and the rest is yours truly. Thanks!
Master Yoda said: " There is no try. Do or do not" heh..... yea I am going for it before I am to old to lift a hammer. I am a little scared and a lot psyched! Thanks!!
Bwaaahahaha!! Funniest comment on here by far! :D
Don't judge a man by the drink he offers you. ; P I feel so happy for Todd (and wife.) It's a huge leap of faith purchasing a home in a foreign country. (A 30-year-old one at that!) This tells me he's quite serious about settling down in Japan, investing his time, effort and money in a piece of real estate. You simply can't make a half-baked decision on investing in something like that. Takes a lot of commitment and prayers... Congrats!!
Yea I am here for the long run. And a long run it shall be. It took us over a year to find the perfect place, price and condition of the home with witch to budget and decide how much and when the renovations are to be done and which ones we do and have done by out side contractors. Thanks a lot!
Todd, I think you should keep your channel and start a new playlist. I would think by not starting a new channel you will gain more subscribers by posting new videos about your new home in Japan. Maybe down the road you could get a youtube partnership. :P
Congrats on the new house, that is awesome. I didn't however know that there was a "anti-foreigner buy home" thing going on in Japan. As for my two cents I think you shouldn't create a new channel. Too much work in building up subscribers, plus this new project will give you lots of content for this channel. If your willing to share it, I would personally be interested in knowing how one gets a loan in Japan. I have heard all sorts crazy things about Japanese mortgage loans.
No I do not think its anti foreigner so much as it is that some banks and companies just do not want to deal with the social and communication differences. Some are just fine with it as long as you qualify under their standards and some will simply deny you a loan or service. The fact that my Japanese wife was the primary person in the dealings made things much easier. But banks here will discriminate against race, sex, marital status and especially health issues. You simply must accept that.
As for the playlist/channel thing, I would go with a playlist, maybe with the vids titled according to the sequence.. Like Cooney's "Life In Japan" series, seems to work well for him. And it means you won't feel the need to be doing all the annoying "hey check out my other channel!" videos and link buttons.
Huh, i never hit the comment size limit before.. anyway:
30 years old, pre-81, are you going to be looking at earthquake proofness or are you considering work to improve that? I ask because I got my first apartment a month ago so that stuff is fresh in my mind.
Yea there are things you can do to an old house but less than a new construction one of course. I have been consulting a very good architect that is a friend and I will be doing a little at a time when I can get at the structure points that need it. There is no such thing as earthquake proof just resistance. Even if the house survives the quake it may have to be torn down later or majorly renovated again. New or old house for that matter.
My advice is to go with the playlist. Lots of j-vloggers are making multiple channels now, and it's getting tougher to organize or revist all the content.
If you did a new channel, I'd still subscribe most definitely =)
did/do you get threats from nationalists/weirdos out there over the last year? I always wondered about that - putting your life in a huge city on youtube
Congratulations on being in Japan for one year and certainly the purchase of you and your wife's house. Good luck on the renovation and looking forward to the overall process being documented. I myself think it would benefit you, as far as gaining overall subscribers, to make a playlist.
Congratulations on buying a home. That is very awesome.
My opinion, if I were you, I wouldn't start a new channel. Your current channel is well put together and you have a following. Building a new following can be a hassle. Also, maintaining more than one channel can be tough (I know). You should just set up a new playlist.
I look forward to your new videos.
Also, good move on secrecy. You should never let the public know where you live or where you work. There are weirdos out there!
Thanks, yea being careful with location and stuff will be a priority. I never received a threat but I have hear stories from others and read articles about stalkers in general here, Japanese or otherwise and the lack of law enforcement especially when it comes to a gaijin being the target. I am not worried about damage or physical harm so much as a weirdo making our life difficult.
When I first started watching this vid and he didn't grab a beer, I was like O.O ??
I've been watching all the video's and love them all. Keep up the awesome work :)
