Commercial radio was born on this day in 1920. This is also a sad day, Salty Brine died on this day in 2004. Thank you Salty, for the memories. You are in Heaven now with Mickey Finn.
Salty and Larry are now back together again, ruling the morning airwaves in the sky. I miss Salty and will now miss Larry greatly, as well, who I was fortunate enough to have had the pleasure of working with.
I grew up in Providence, over in Chad Brown in the 60s. Salty Brine was the fucking man. Staight up, likable, fair and warm. Simply put.......A legend. I was on his show when I was five years old. Much respect.
Thanks. I live in Florida now - but grew up in Connecticut in the 50's and early 60's and this was the man. Many great memories - thanks Salty...........
Salty picked us up hitch hiking in Narragansett we where like 16- 18 it was the 1960's and we were on our way to Aunt Carries for Clam cakes in Point Judith, close to where Salty lived. Needless to say we where baked on some weed and Salty was now in a different de-mention then Jimi Hendrix. When he let us out we said thank you and he did the "Don't forget to brush your teeth and say your prayer's . It was a "in the body experience" as we became 6 years old again.
I remember getting ready for school and my Dad having the radio on listening to Salty & Larry. Hearing No school Swansea (where I lived) and larry yelling "Yeah" in the back ground!!!
RIP Salty. You were as Rhode Island as a Coffee Milkshake, You were as refreshing as Dels Lemondade, You were as tasty as a NY System Hot Wiener. I don't live in RI now and how Salty makes me think of home.
OMG! I loved Salty's show when I was a kid. When I used to ride the school bus to high school, the driver used to have him on so we could listen (and probably to shut us up).
I also remember watching his show everyday after school. Thanks for posting this.
His saying "No School Foster Glocester" during morning snow reports was not helpful to me. I was from bristol, and Bristol & Aquidneck Island never got snow as a result of gulfstream air from the ocean, while all the nothern and western towns got 8 inches.
I'm only 36, I was born and raised on the East Side of Providence, BUT I can remember listening to him every morning on the radio while getting ready for school... hearing him say no school Foster Gloster on the bad weather days, I can remember always saying "whats Foster Gloster??" LOL :) Duhhh!
Thanks for posting this Holland...even though I no longer live in Rhode Island, I still find myself at wholly inappropriate times screaming out "No school Foster-Gloucester!!"
I miss Salty. I grew up with his broadcasts. I now live in the Midwest, now. A place where no one has ever heard of him. I miss him now, and his legacy. I'm glad this is posted here. More need to know of him.

It's from 1980 or later, they feature the 1980 song "Pilot of the Airwaves."
Salty was the best.

Salty was great. I listened to him, I saw him at the 4th of July parades, and I met him, and did a commercial with him in 1989.
