Seriously who commentates these matches? They're quite annoying saying wow what a wonderful topspin or a topspin rally when in fact they have variations of side spin and top spin. Why can't they just say wow what a wonderful loop or hook?
@888886611 well WH and Ma Lin together have essentially won everything there is to win, and they know their careers are nearly over, so it's not like they care 100%. Timo still plays his heart out, because even though he's good, let's face it, he hasn't won anything internationally significant.
@wasdwasdedsf Why do you talk like an imbecile with ridiculous phrases such as “huh” and “lol what.” I thought I was the only German imbecile on YouTube. Now I know I am not alone. So you are a Swedish imbecile known as @wasdwasdedsf ! HAHAHAHA!
This was the worst match I've seen in a long time. I remember seeing it live. Both of them played horribly below their level. It's possible they fixed the match I guess...
I think you're absolutely right. I was also wondering while cutting the match how bad both of them actually played. They seemed to be just so unmotivated to play. Maybe it is difficult for them to be motivated for the Pro Tour. For them, everything that counts are big events.
@ttprovider maybe they just do not think that it's worth to give their best for such a small tournament. Showing too much strength can expose more of their ability to their future opponenet. For example, Ma lin's RPB improved
@ttprovider wasn't it already wang hao and xu xin who are in the top 3, so it doesn't matter who wins.
also, I recall reading an article about how the china team likes to let new players up so they can take turns being world champions. ma lin and wang hao already had their go, so during matches that don't matter, they now let xu xin has the spotlight.
too bad ma long is injured. it should be his turn, because xu xin is 1 year younger than ma long. and ma long is lightyears better i think
@Merrlol Thanks for the upload. There is no benefits for them to fix the game. I think is just because they know each other so well that they played like there was not enough effort. At some stage I could see that they wanted to put up some king of exhibition but not quite worked out.
@saamuel96 Hmmm I actually like Ma Lin better. His technical skills are off the chart. Wang Hao's RP backhand is definitely the future of the penhold style, but Ma Lin's mastery of the short game, three ball attack, and just he overall versatility of his serve and forehand is amazing. Despite his huge backhand disadvantage he still beats Wang Hao more often in the big tournaments.
@17teacmrocks Ma Lin's mastery of the short game is too good. Wang Hao even with his rph backhand advantage, still has to rely predominately on his forehand. And because Ma Lin's short game is the best in the world, he usually gets to attack first, and Wang Hao's backhand still generally isn't as good for blocking than shakehand backhands. In the past 4 years, they have played 12 times on the pro tour, and Ma Lin won 9 times
@scylla24 i thought penhold is actually better for blocking (when using not reversed backhand). I think it's Wang Hao's individual imperfection not the shakehand advantage. [I'm a penholder so I might not be very neutral ;)]. But about Ma Lin's superb short game and all, you're totally right.
@scylla24 Ma Lin has more weaknesses than Wang Hao. Aside from his weaker backhand, his ball displacement is awful, causing players like Ma Long to humilate him very easily. The Chinese team is very balance. Ma Lin and Wang Liqin always have a hard time with Ma Long, but Ma Long is Wang Hao nemesis. Wang Hao, however, is Ma Lin's nemesis while Ma Lin is Wang Liqin's. In other words, no one is the best. He may do well against some players but may not against others.

Both played very lethargic until the last set. I suppose they want to minimize injury risks for a small tournament.

@scylla24 ma lin has superior experience though I haven't seen ma lin beating wang hao more.
it's usually wang hao losing to ma long, that puts him out; rarely that it's wang hao taking out ma lin.
