  • Im sorry jared but my teacher would kill me if i played like that. You should hold the stick tight in your hand the whole time and not trust the rebound at all. It takes a lot more hard work to get it to that speed "really". No offense, but you should watch more Rudiment videos...

  • hey jared, I love this video, but I have a big question! What in-ears are you using in this video?? Because I'm thinking of buying some in-ears to protect my ears and listen to music which I can play along to. Can you recommend me anything?

  • this is the coolest, unpretentious video teacher i've ever seen on youtube, thanks for this video!

  • gravity blasts please :)

  • how to get your left hand to actually match your right??

I cant seem to let my left hand to keep u p with my right.

i have been playing for like 4 years already.

  • It's great to practice this on things with little rebounds, such as pillows, uhh... carpets (lol)

  • 0:00 - 0:40 ~ Alright, that's it for the warm-up :3

  • Great channel - I haven't played in over 10 years... I'm just getting back to it and I've found a lot of your lessons to be helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do this and share your passion.

  • THANK'S FOR SHOWING YOU SKILLS,DJ C-SMOOTH

  • 4:30 sounds like a stronge breeze

  • Isnt this simply called the "Moeller technique" ? ... and how could you else play double strokes ?xD

  • @voltototo not technically the Moeller stroke dude. That's more geared towards single strokes

  • @tooldrummer ok. But im used to also play double or tripplestrokes with the Moeller technique so I was confused. Ty for the correction =)

  • @voltototo actually yeah you can definitely use Moeller for triple strokes, not so sure about doubles because that would be more of a kind of rocking motion but I guess anything where you're pulling out accents incorporates Moeller at some level.

  • This is something i'v been trying to figure out for a bit, thanks to your video, i now KNOW HOW to practice this myself. Thanks Jared for all the great videos!

  • Thanks Jared for showing this. Something I wish I had learned a long time ago. By the way, your drums sound "kick ass!"

  • can you do a video like this but for traditional grip?

  • i would like to have a set to practis with can you set me up with a set of drums?

  • Lol this guy is actually legit badass... that last comment cracked me up. "i mean, look at me right?".... rofl xD

  • What kind of a kitchen is this?

  • Hello, and thank you for the video. I have a question. What's the difference between this method and the method you using in another video, the one with the finger - Finger Technique Drumming Exercises (Drum Practice Pad Solo Included) . Is it that, in this method you take advantage of the bouncing ? I mean you can have the same speed with the both methods right? One must be easier than the other. Thank you.

  • @MikeStann the main difference is the finger technique is supposed to require zero wrist or arm motion in the downward direction; of course this doesnt apply to orchestration and this technique is more of a moelleresque thing that switches from larger to smaller muscle groups repeatedly; i.e. forearms and wrists to fingers. the finger technique after the first stroke is all controlled rebounds as apposed to this technique which is like the first and last parts of a 3 part moeller stroke. cheers

  • @millmaxy Thanx man, it makes sense now. I have try to learn both methods. The truth is that after some time, finger method is easier and require less energy. Thank you again.

  • Thanks again Jared for a great vid... now i'm off to try this roll... and yeah, turtles are cool!

  • heres a tip

try closing your mouth when you drum but overall you are really good

  • So looking for the comment by @JourneyCamperMen1an2 is starting . Good luck :)

  • @lgalovic1 ha, i wanted to see what that asshat had to say too. I just clicked on all comments and did a "find" search for his username. Might be useful if this thing happens on another vid :)

  • how many turns do you do on your drums, i watched the tuning video, but these sound amazing, i want to no the batter head and reso of your toms please!

  • @TheMegaPaintballer There is a good drum tuning video by the a guy from DW. Try something along those lines into youtube, Really helped me out.

  • Jared what ear monitors are you using? great video

  • Comment removed

  • I really really like the sound on the floor tom!

    great videos. :D

  • Great vids! You guys are absolutely inspiring! Please do a video on how not to be so tense when holding the stick. Thanks!

  • Hey what in-ears do you wear? Have you done videos on what headphones/buds are best for drummers?

  • He reminds me of Kenneth from 30 Rock.

  • his voice sounds like the guy on everybody loves raimond, at least to me LOL

  • At least swallow saliva!

  • How do you spell the name of the guy at 5:25

    @Freedrumlessons

  • Can u give me the link for double stroke sheet?like the single stroke sheet is perfect :D

  • Can do a lesson on stick tricks? that would be very cool and appreciated.

  • What pedals do you use? where can i find this info?

  • Jared, can you do a video lesson how that our left hand becomes good as our right hand. With right hand I can do a double stroke very very fast and sounds good. But with left hand it is so hard to do double stroke and ... everything. I dont know what should I practice that my hands are equal. Please, if you have time to make a video or send me a message on youtube what to practice. And, merry Christmas to people from FreeDrumLeson, and to people who loves them:)

  • Its such a pain in my ass that i cannot use my left wrist as well as my right.....but when im blasting my left is alot faster then my right.....any tips???

  • @Savagewrath666

depends, how much wrist/ fore arm are you putting into it?

Try keeping a 16th pattern with bass hits on the cymbols ( 1 e and a 2 e and a 3.... bass and cymbol hits on 1... and... 2... and) single bass only.

do that for about 3 minutes before you start.

Paradiddle blast beats help too, or you can do one L-rr-L-RR-L-RR-L-RR and keep the bass at a steady speed.

    metronomes also help.

  • 1:43 thats all there is to say...

  • that beginning sounded ALOT like dave weckl in the "king of drummers" video -__- wackk !!

  • i didn't know nick swordson played drums

  • Cool. Thx man!

Now just need to practice ;)

  • as you may look and talk like napoleon dynamite, you got good skills!

  • ..woooh.. i want to learn tp play drums..!!!!

  • @JourneyCamperMen1an2 A drummer can hold their sticks in whatever way is most comfortable for them. There is no set way to hold your sticks cause every drummer is different. Jared knows what he's talking about, so you don't have to call him out on somthing that is all based on personal preference. He doesn't need you to tell him the importance of technique. So please do take your comments elsewhere they're not needed, especially from somebody with no credibility. Good day sir.

  • @JourneyCamperMen1an2 Read top comment. Understand personal preference.

  • @JourneyCamperMen1an2 hey man just saying there are a lot of people that could say that your stick holding technique sucks too i hold my sticks very similar to how Jared holds his drum sticks and it works fine for me.but, if it doesn't work for you it doesn't automatically is a non credible technique to use it just means its not a good technique for YOU. not all drummers play the same way you do bro.

  • what kind of kit is tht?

  • @goldensword107 Definitely a DW kit. He uses this kit a lot on his videos. DW's kits all have round lugs - the hardware that holds the tension rods in place.

  • An actual STARGATE/PORTAL-THING was caught on film in New Mexico. The footage can be found within the short-film entitled "SUDDEN PORTHOLE", which is parked at the PROJECT CAMELOT YouTube page (it's under the George Noory video).

I'm not selling anything…I'm just trying to spread the word about the unseen-dimensions we find ourselves embedded in.

My BLOG contains peripheral data regarding the movie and is where I reply to the "debunkers" (use search words "SAM ZURICK" & "BLOG"). THANKS!!

  • Another sweet video! This comes from the early Billy Gladstone methods...it's very efficient

  • Hey, do you know Volkan Öktem?

  • any tips on this with traditional grip?

  • How about make a video where you play a song and apply the pattern on your drum rolls...

  • that floor tom sounds amazing man!

  • this what i need...

  • *thumps up * ;)

  • no wonder some drummers accidently throw their sticks around xD good tutorial

  • yo are my god

  • its hard im still tryin and use it when jamming

  • My second day learning, and I'm doing 110bpm

  • @TheOneChriss

That's great bro, hopefully they're tight.

  • @joelbeng9 They could be a bit louder though, I still need to work on the strengh of the hits.. but yeah it's going nicely, and I'm keeping them fluent.

  • My second day learning, and I'm doing 110 bpm :) Getting there!

  • que bateria es ????

  • If you mix these in with para-diddles, para-diddle-diddles, and a balls load of triplets, it sounds so sick. Also, I wouldn't recommend just dropping the stick and then going in for another stroke. What you want is two clean strikes. So I say use a lot of wrist, arm, and fingers like the dude said near the end. Strike the drum twice with one hand, then the other, and keep getting faster and faster. Eventually it's realllllyyyyyy easy. This worked for me awhile back, so eh.

  • what drum kit are you using?? the sound is mint

  • Thanks so much Jared! I really appreciate the time you give to all of us trying to learn technique. Just knowing the mechanics of the stroke is good, but you helped me quite a bit with my technique.

  • here's my thumbs up.. lol nice tuts.. this can help me and other new born drummers..

  • he just stole it from Jojo Mayer his technique vid..

  • This is the lesson i needed to see to fix my pattern. I hadn't been able to speed up my tempo too much on doubles. I had tried doing double taps with my fingers alone which proved a little better, but this will be much faster. What i realized helped me was in dropping the stick. When it hits i was stopping, but now i follow through a bit more and loosen my grip just before i pull back up.

  • it's always better than expert village!!

  • @marcbenjamsojayco ... thats not exactly a compliment

  • Great job Jared as always.. nice free vids keep it up

  • hahahaha this guy is funny xD

  • Hey jared, justwondering, how are your toms mounted because they look to low to be connected to your bass. great vid btw :)

  • @subx654 Each of them is mounted to a cymbal stand. There is no mounting on his bass drum so they can't be mounted to that.

  • @DrMorbid oh i see. thnx :D

  • how close was he to crying?! awesome vid!

  • Hey jared, ive been practicing this method for a while now but cant go very fast. How long did it take you to reach your current double stroke speed? I practice it for about half an hour a day on a no rebound surface but seem to be stuck at a medium speed because of my slower hand. Any tips on building up speed for that one hand or is it just practice practice practice? cheers mate

  • Hey Jared! I have a question, I'm having trouble getting a second bounce on a pillow because there is absolutely no rebound at all.. I guess I'm asking on do you practice on a pillow?

  • Another great lesson. Thanks for taking the time to do this...greatly appreciated

  • GOSEI....

  • 1:42 i hope thats normal

  • Hey I think I got the "pulse" technique but I cant mix my hands! I mean I do it with the left then with the right hand - two notes with the left then two with the right, please give me some advice hou to do it RLRLRLRLRL please... Thank you.

  • 0:17 : Seriously, I do not have that much Symbals.!

  • keep pressing 2, is he talking about chinese band? what is a chingband

  • @BrightenHite i just tried beat 1a today at my friends house, he doesnt have a ride/crash cymbal (the one on the far right) ahaha so, i did beat 1a with an open arm instead of cross armed, but im right handed is that okay ?

  • nice drum :)

  • just had a drum epiphany. thank you!

  • I love your kit

What is it and how much was your whole set-up?

All of the set-ups in your vids are really really nice

    Where do you get them

Because I'm looking to buy a kit

I have played friends kits, never had lessons and apparently i'm naturally quite good, so i'd love to buy my own and practise so i can be a good drummer

    Nice vids as always

    Thanks :)

  • @theguy5279 try a udrum kit with TRX cymbals. They'll blow your mind out! :)

  • @buzoooka94 Thanks :P

How much do you think it would be for a 5 or 7 piece kit?

Because i couldn't find any sort of pricing on the udrum website

I know a full set of cymbals will probably be around £100

    Porbably more for TRX

  • @theguy5279 To be honest, I seriously don't know how the prices would be. I'm in Malaysia. And I'm more of a jamming person. I was planning on buying my own kit too but I haven't had a time to survey the prices. :)

  • @buzoooka94 Ah okay

    Good luck getting your kit

and thanks for the help man, it's appreciated

  • Jared does so much to help other drummers without coming off as a know it all. He is humble and generous. I hope he realizes all that he wants from his drumming efforts.

  • hey its nick swardson

  • Well... double stroke roll is quite easy when it's played in a snare drum only. But it's hard to practice when I try to play it along the whole drumset.

  • @NiniKeyboard did you not watch the video? use the pole pushing technique for toms

  • @TheImpressionable OK, but... It's NOT SO EASY to do. That what I said.

  • Haha, I like this dude and good lesson!

  • dude you have improved so much in your teaching. you are awesome.

  • thanks you so much jared!!

  • A little knowledge is a dangerous thing...

  • my right hand is pretty good with the whole technique thing.. but my left hand is like a floppy doodle? maybe make a video about that? ALSO.. you should get really drunk and make a video coz that would make me laugh and i like to laugh.

  • @michael9110 Did you find anything about building the left hand? I have that same problem. There's a book on it called 'The Weaker Side' if you just type it into google you can find it. I haven't read it, but it might help.

  • @michael9110 ennnhhhh you should get really high and do that !!

  • @michael9110 dude it sucks right? i cant get it to be like... good.

  • @michael9110 trolololololol good ideas

  • @michael9110 I AGREE. WITH BOTH!

  • @michael9110 Floppy doodle is my new favorite expression. Thank you kindly for bestowing these words upon me!

  • @michael9110 i like the way you think

  • @michael9110 Just keep practicing, Try accenting on the left hand to gain the muscle memory you need.

  • @michael9110 You need a practice for your left hand not another video

  • they added to the kit holy crap my boner just got bigger from that kit that kit is so beautiful look at the way the cymbals flash in the light o my goodness

  • strike pull or the open/close technique!

  • my pinkies keep coming out when i play. does this matter

  • @JFDrummer22 I talked with alot drummers. Apparently it does

  • @JWuEntertainment yeah ive been hearin that too. im trying to keep em tucked in now.

  • You explain really well and give great tips! thanks so much your a really great drummer. God bless!

  • can you show (LINKIN PARK) in the end drum beats ????

    please

  • ok ok.. my right hand works well, but my left hand is terrible blind! =(

  • thanks For sharing your lessons n your effort, really appreciate it!

  • do the same video on a pillow. the ultimate double stoke lesson. I never knew about the 2nd accent method. Very cool. my problem is always the left hand as the right hand is always faster since im right handed. so the left hand is always quieter and lazier and my right is perfect. so when i get into a roll you it always sounds off. then I tried your method and use that 2nd accent on the left hand and it sounds equal now. thanks man. when I do it this way

  • 3:50 Dave Weckl's Back to Basics from Alfred Publishing

  • Quote " And if i can do it believe me everyone can do it , like look at me right ?! "

I REALLY LOLLED!!! great lessons btw

  • I am Brazilian, so do not be angry sad has spelling errors. Do the google translation Portuguese to English translator

  • What helps a lot to have more speed, as many know is the moller technique developed by Jim Chapin. You know runs this technique, for sure "double stroke" will be much easier.

  • I always knew it as the "Molar" technique...

  • @DogAteMySticks i think he is more of a blues rock guy

  • I wish my toms would sound like that :(

  • moeller!

  • This drum kit sound makes me thrill :D

  • double stroke means like playing rrllrrll very fast, did i get that right?

  • @PoetaOdoris yes

  • @emersonevp Thx =)

  • really appreciate the videos and glad that you still do them!! I'm really struggling with double stroke (and I've been playing for like 5 years, shame on me!!) in that I'm not very accurate with them, and I can't seem to keep them in one spot, they sort of flurry over the drum or hi hats. Messy. I wonder if there's a video on advice on controlling sticks :)

  • thanks god for giving you us :)

  • I'd want more of those odd-time beats and fills, they are interesting

  • I'd want more of those odd-time beats and fills

  • xD "I mean, LOOK at ME! :P " xD epic one

  • teach about drum tuning and setting up :)

  • Teach about salsa, samba, n other latin drumming

  • I subscribed to you guys around the time you put your first video up with intentions of looking at them to learn drums, and i got a kit about four months ago, and I've made so many great strides by combining these lessons with seat time, and i've gotten to the point where I can jam to a wide variety of music, from hardcore music to even some jazz. thanks so much for everything!

  • so humble :)

  • aw,lol.the end was kinda sad :(

but man you´re doing great stuff and show people how to play the drums and all that in a nice and easy way.that´s more than some could wish for.thanks for making the vids, you´re my favourite out of all

  • Amazing lesson, and amazing drumkit!

  • Nice explanation and video. I suggest to not only show technics slow and fast but going from slow to fast and reverse. And I would be happy to see lessons with traditional grip and/or technics shown for matched and traditional grip.

  • Hey Jarrod, Keith Carlock is a beast I hope you saw the '05 Modern drummer fest, one of the best and Keith tore it UP!!!

  • Jared, maybe you heard about accenting the second stroke in this video: /watch?v=LJWldEMFem4 at about 2:30...

If not, than never mind. And thx 4 this video, I liked it!

  • Because you decided to change the plates, before and now you used zildjian PAISTE?

  • can u mix double stroke roll with double bass...

  • one about how to practice to build up speed in double bass, and also how to co ordinate hands with feet

  • I want double bass pedal lessons! XD

  • how tall is jared?

  • @henry3856 taller than cobus :D

  • i love this guy (no homo)
