If evolution is a fact, why is so insecure when questioned of its validity? Scientists careers have ended who have dared to criticise evolution. Publishers have been threatened by academics for publishing alternative views about life.

What interest me is the missing link between evolution and what we are today.. This is false. This video showed very clearly that life arose from molecules organizing themselves into structured beings. If you want to see how this is possible I suggest watching the rest of this episode from Cosmos. They show, experimentally, that a few gases, mixed with common elemental occurences (in this case lightning), are able to produce more complex molecules and these molecules are able to organize themselves by something as simple as attraction or repulsion to water.

This video is from Carl Sagan's more expansive presentation called "Cosmos", while this is more than 25 years old, the fundamentals are still pretty sound.
What's great is that SINCE this video was produced, the genome project was completed, and we can know, more or less accurately that the pre-genetic viewpoint (which is this), more or less was completely accurate.
So we evolved from semi-aquatic fish / amphibians and millions of years later a reptile-like mammalian and then towards apes.
Carl Sagan's Cosmos series was broadcast in th UK around 1980. The mammal line derived from the reptiles quite early on, around 170 million yrs back. Oceanic mammals(whales and dolphins) are relatively recent adaptations and evolved from land living mammals, they aren't our descendants. Just a friendly piece of advice, as I have children of my own and I just read your profile: People DO still read books! I beg you to read as many as you can! I recommend "The Ancestor's Tale" by Richard Dawkins.
Sagan is of course not in his own field of science here but one can't really notice it.

Then place the UV light above it, and watch the bacteria colonies change colour over a few hours. They change colour because their original colour absorbed too much light, which meant they were damaged by the UV rays. They evolved to survive with the light in but a few hours.

Enthralled by the CG, virtually perfect animations and humouristic but realistic storylines they gave individual species as they narrate. "Walking with prehistoric beast" was another, I enjoyed of the series. Why did they stop? I'm sure they didn't cover every dino and prehis. beast. Also science has not made the case 100% for man evolved from a common ancestor. To answer your question about gravity. I correct you, simply because your question is moot. there is no evidence for creationism and heaps for evolution. Asking that a god would have done it that way is denying the fact it evolved in the first place, yet we know that life evolved from the boundless evidence. Check out all the cool stuff they are finding in Genetics right now! Check out phylogenetic trees of life and how well they complete evolution, protein homolous structures and evidence of point mutations, its all there!

Me too, Carl Sagan has a beutiful poetic nature that inspires us, while I find Dawkins can be at time cold and harse. However I don't blame him too much. I mean in a society where there are people who want to teach creatinism in a science classroom, someone has to fight back and hard. What interest me is the missing link between evolution and what we are today.. Scientific theory is actually different than the normal uses of the word theory. this is an extremely flawed challenge to theory of evolution. In the first place, evolution takes place slowly over several million years.
However, if you do want to see evolution occur in a much more rapid environment, there have been many experiments of contained fruit-flies which all developed massive forms of variation after several mating cycles in which over 10,000 flies eventually developed - all within a very short time span of a few days. Imagine that variation over several aeons.

Organisms and life may arise only by incredibly small probabilities, but the chances taken over large spans of time means it is essentially inevitable.

Nobody is arguing that DNA and evolution are extremely unlikely - that's why we can't seem to find it ANYWHERE else in the universe thus far. The fallacy is trying to compare that with a tornado assembling a 747, and thus implying that evolution is "impossible".
The chances of me joining the starting rotation of the Red Sox is about the same as DNA, evolution and the 747. But does that validate ANYTHING? No. It's just comparing the probability of 2 diff. things. So no, nothing legit there.

This is false. This video showed very clearly that life arose from molecules organizing themselves into structured beings. If you want to see how this is possible I suggest watching the rest of this episode from Cosmos. They show, experimentally, that a few gases, mixed with common elemental occurences (in this case lightning), are able to produce more complex molecules and these molecules are able to organize themselves by something as simple as attraction or repulsion to water.

I personally believe in both of these philosophies. I do believe that evolution happened as there is much evidence behind it, and I also believe God was the force driving all these things forward. There were many things that just seemed to happen for no reason. Fit God into the equation and it fills in the blanks. Why is it all these laws exist? God made them to govern his universe. This video is from Carl Sagan's more expansive presentation called "Cosmos", while this is more than 25 years old, the fundamentals are still pretty sound.
What's great is that SINCE this video was produced, the genome project was completed, and we can know, more or less accurately that the pre-genetic viewpoint (which is this), more or less was completely accurate.
So we evolved from semi-aquatic fish / amphibians and millions of years later a reptile-like mammalian and then towards apes.

Carl Sagan's Cosmos series was broadcast in th UK around 1980. The mammal line derived from the reptiles quite early on, around 170 million yrs back. Oceanic mammals(whales and dolphins) are relatively recent adaptations and evolved from land living mammals, they aren't our descendants. Just a friendly piece of advice, as I have children of my own and I just read your profile: People DO still read books! I beg you to read as many as you can! I recommend "The Ancestor's Tale" by Richard Dawkins.

Since when are bible thumpers interested in FACT?! The fossil record supports each step in this vidoe. But your right - what a crock - much better to believe that 4000 years ago a man and his small family loaded two of every species on the planet into a boat while an enormous deluge destroyed everything else. Then the boat crashes and all the animals get off to re-populate this huge planet that you probably still think is the center of the universe.

Nobody is perfect and God knows everything and everything but why would he make people that he knows would never love him and why try to change the fact of that if everything is God's will. Anyways before it gets any worse I'm glad God helped you. But I just think God is waaaaaay to big for any of our primitive brains to comprehend.

No offense to you, but your generalization is blind, false, and immature. Not all of us atheist are the people you say we are. I treat religion with great care and respect, as it is a viable theory to the origin of life as evolution is. Is it too much to ask for you to return my respect?

Raxas7 I apreciate the respect and care that you put to the most important question ever. My generalization is that, a generalization, it is not meant to signify that every single atheist is an atheist because of those very reasons. Ofcourse there are exceptions like those abused by a religious figure, or those who were taught by their parents to be atheist etc. As for you my firend, best wishes, hope you find the truth in your endeavors; Because He is real and awesome.

you are trying to say that the only exeptions to your rule (all non believers are selfish, arrogant, lying) are those that have silly emotional reasons for not believing the greatest story ever told? how about they expanded their mind and researched all the evidience thus discovering some truth you have yet to discover?

FYI until the discovery of calculus no one could prove mathemathically that 2+2=4 No joke, if you didn't take calculus while in H.S.you probably missed that first chapeter, see the REAL research took 2 pages of the book. You see there is research and there is REAL research. Have you prayed, gone to a real christian church for some time. if not, you haven't not done any REAL reasearch

you don't need to pray to planets on the other side of our galexy to know there real. if a god exists than it has to exist in space and time thus i don't have to talk to myself (pray) in order to discover it's existance.
what is halarious to me is that you define "real research" as praying and going to church. I define it as using scientific method to verify a hypotheses....lets let academics decide which is "real research shall we?

gikaplan WOW c'mon you ask me not to insult your intelligence and then you say something as absurd as "if there is a god he has to exist in space and in time" Everyone know that God is eternal and hece he is beyond time, that he is everpresent and hence is beyond space. we all know that time is tied to motion, and that without motion there is no time. Chew on that for a second then talk scientific. The scientific method only works if you know all the components otherwise you are just guesing

by the way, you shouldn't assume that because someone lacks a belief in a god that means they've never studied religious texts, gone to church, or once believed. I certainly did for most of my life, then I debated people and considered what they said. researched it, trying to prove them wrong, only to discover that it was I that was wrong. I also know people who were pastors that then realized the truth. so trust me there are educated atheists who once strongly believed and researched everything

Gikaplan I don't know what church you attended, but let me give you my perspective. My experience has been precisely the opposite, Much of my family were rabid atheists, most due to their college degrees/doctorates, yes I grew up in a world where the intelligent thing was to be atheist, and being intelligent was #1, but after experiencing God, I debated with them almost all are Christian now, I know many former Wiccans, Satanists, Gays that now are Christian. Maybe we should talk, message me

Once you can actually grasp how long the earth has existed - 4.6 billion years (which is bearly impossible to picture), you can accept the possibility that we evolved from lower species.
And there is overwhelming evidence to back up the theory.
Sure science can't explain everything. But don't run away with the assumption that, there for an inttelignet designer must have been responsible.

Evolution is the biggest unscientific, unprovable farce ever perpetrated. Those who believe it have just never been exposed to the overwhelming evidence proving that it's not true.

Evoluion is unscientific? Unprovable? Umm I think you're forgetting the fossil record! Just because you can't see evolution happening doesn't mean it didn't happen. Our solar system orbits the Milky Way galaxy once every 225 million years, but you can't see it happening.

Gregusan, which, if any, of the major tenets of a scientific theory (evidence, prediction-making ability, falsifiability) does evolution fail and why? Evolution is _the_ cornerstone of biology. We can't understand modern medicine and biology without evolution - it is _universally_ accepted and has been for quite some time.

I've seen some of that evidence...beaked whales on beaches being passed off as prehistoric animals, bananas, and Icka stones. Can you quote any of the evidence you refer to or is it just the same old rehashed garbage creationists always point to?

Do you have any Philadelphia cheese at your house? Do you have an ultraviolet lamp? Because I want you to conduct an experiment. Open the cheese and leave it until small bacteria start growing in it. Then place the UV light above it, and watch the bacteria colonies change colour over a few hours. They change colour because their original colour absorbed too much light, which meant they were damaged by the UV rays. They evolved to survive with the light in but a few hours.

Okay Humanist that's an example of microevolution isn't it. But some young earth creationists still deny every kind of evolution including that. Even though they know that bacteria develop a resistance to antibiotics they still say that's not evolution.

natural selection! not random! random traits would not survive, natural selection is what picks the traits that do, almost every mammals embryo looks the same at an early stage, its only after awhile do you begin to recognise differences, get rid of genesis and the rest of the bible while your at it

Oh by the way, "Walking with Dinosaurs" was a great series on NGeo. When I was 11 years, I always use to watch it and loved every second of that 3 hr. show. Enthralled by the CG, virtually perfect animations and humouristic but realistic storylines they gave individual species as they narrate. "Walking with prehistoric beast" was another, I enjoyed of the series. Why did they stop? I'm sure they didn't cover every dino and prehis. beast. They barely covered the "Walking before the dinosaurs".
