  • Jajajaja aqui mi sensei dandolo todo :D

  • Bravo! Veramente bravo! Complimenti!

  • ppl make me sick with mean remarks mean remarks SUCK

  • SHOTOKAN RYU

  • Raw Power and energy!... Love it... Pretty style as well.... Good Job fella!

  • I this Kyoko Shinkai? I'm not an expert, just curious... :)

  • I this Kyoko Shinkai?

  • There's no flow or smoothness.

  • I think that was a pretty decent performance.

However, I was really annoyed by his cough-like breathing. There's not really any place for that in Shotokan.

This was definitely a tournament kata though, and I prefer traditional stylings by a long shot. It's certainly crisp, but IMO it lacks Kanazawa's beautiful flow and focus.

Finally, I prefer the old system, where we refer to this one as Gojushiho Sho. I believe that it's a better representation of the Gojushiho pairing.

  • i love traditional forms, wish they were more prevelant than the gymnastic routines so popular today. with respect..

  • OMG! what's this shit???

  • @Mrkarateboy1 You are kidding or you really don't know what Shotokan Karate is ?

  • Comment removed

  • @Mrkarateboy1 Beside what I noticed, what's wrong in it ?

  • Comment removed

  • @Larloch80 sorry but i've just see the comment... anywhere, the kata is too fast and the technic is bad...he hasn't got stability, explosion and convincion... forgive me if i don't wrote well, but i'm a student

  • @Mrkarateboy1 No worry. Of course it is fast, there is some point I dislike. The overall look of that kata is good, without saying it's the best so far. Btw, english is not my first language, don't worry about your spell checking ;)

  • @Larloch80 go here... this is a nice Gojushiho Dai! write in youtube:

    Luca Valdesi : Gojushiho Dai

  • @Mrkarateboy1 I never said it was the best kata I ever seen. I only said it was a good kata.

Luca Valdesi is a great competitor, but I prefer by far Hideto Tsuchiya.

  • Sad for his mistake at 1:10.

    Very good performance beside that.

  • @Larloch80

I cannot see any kime on his moves... sorry...

  • @JellyChang unsteadiness at 1:10

  • verry good. oss. respect.

  • Good performance, let down slightly at 1.10 with the left foot. BUT ...I wish I could do this kata as good as him !

  • Gojushiho Dai and Gojoshiho Sho are different from each other ..and Both of them are Shotokan

just like Kanku Dai and Kanku sho because I see that some peaple say that its from different school

  • he slips at 1:09 his horse stance on the left leg. Though, i wish i was competing at worlds!

  • Well done!

  • SHIT!

  • I love that there' so much karate to be found on youtube I hate how many Grand Masters there are adding comments.

Jesus Christ! Every school does it different.

  • @redstatesrule back in the day we called them "paper tigers". maybe we need a new term now? i remember the old chinese proverb " the empty drum makes the loudest noise".

  • @MrByaeger possibly "keyboard tigers" the ferocity of their skill and knowledge only manifests itself when sat in front of one. i was taught once that a fool talks about what he has seen a wise man talks about the things he has done (not as fluid in English but the point still stands.)

  • @redstatesrule

I totally agree that every school does it differently, but I'm pretty sure not a single one is teaching that one should finish the kata 3 meters in front of the embusen. This is just lack of study or simply put, wrong execution. This is one big challenge in this particular kata, otherwise errors propagate over 54 steps result in what we just saw!

    Oss!

  • I think JKA and SKIF are somewhat different. This is our Gojushiho SHO... strange.

Nevertheless, what I think is poor is the fact that some people obviously can't deal with criticism. Nobody's perfect!

  • Well, I wouldn't call it outright poor, but I've seen A LOT better performances by people who never made it to any international competition. And yes, I also learned this kata as Gojushiho Sho years back, while all of the Shotokan belonged to the good old IAKF and was under the guidance of JKA and Nakayama Sensei. God, am i old !!! :)

  • gyus , you who critisize seem to be loosers indeed....show us your own performance, i doubt it would suck like yr opinions.

this gyu has excellent tech with power, u would find it when meeting him on tatami in real life. have a nice day ! oss.

  • He's got really great technique, and good stances too. But from what I can see, the reason he can do the techniques so fast is because he isn't tensing up at the end of the moves. =/

    Still, awesome Kata nonetheless. =)

  • nice

  • where is the kime?

  • i prefer gojushiho sho...and i don't think he's good....don't have kime...

  • oh.. u are very powerful in your downward block so that u might out of balance..but that kata is

    my favorite tnx...

  • why are there so many people hating on this guy you guys probably all suck any way

  • he is fast but his techniques don't look strong, not there is no strength behind them but well it's just about the way it looks in tournament katas

  • He is really sharp. Movement on tape aways looks so much slower than it feels but he looks fast even on video. Only one minor bounce in there. I thought this looked great. I just started working on this as my new kata and it is so difficult. Great job.

  • It seems we have many World Champions here on Youtube!!! Show me your Kata and we see about that, heros!

  • nice kata ..a slight variation on a few moves. but i like it alot ...this was my tournament kata about ten years ago ..

  • Not good. He finish some steps in front. What about kime ("stronge")? His mae gueri is so sweet.... Not good

  • he does have really good techinque but I dont like that he's not showing any power.

  • muy buen kata es genial pero...

    falta kime

    si tuviera kime

    seria genial

Os

  • omg !!!!!!!!! almost perfect

  • its not perfect, look at this time:

    0:13

    0:36

    0:44

    0:57

    1:08

    1:10

    1:17

There are mistakes, when somebody know this kata, then he know what is wrong.

When you want to talk with me about it, write to me

  • Kampfhamster-

Keep in mind that the kata is going to vary slightly from style to style, teacher to teacher, and dojo to dojo. Just because it isn't identical to the way you were taught it doesn't mean it is incorrect, or for that matter, poorly executed. Ever take into consideration that you may have been taught a different version before you criticize other people's katas.

  • Well said

  • ok...I said "almost"...almost mean not perfect. But this kata have a really good shape.

and see that balance...breaks my heart

I know he dont position correctly his ippon nukite...and he made other little mistakes but but I still think this is a beautiful kata.and I disagree with mike about his kime !

  • Not a head-butt...

It's an escape from a reverse bear hug while striking to the ribs

  • @CCBRFTATTHFF : it is a head butt- after escape from reverse bear hug and strikes to the ribs, you use the back of your head to butt his face as he reacts to the rib strikes- proper bunkai also has your butt pushing back at the same time as the rib strikes- thus his face/head is forward ready to be smashed by the back of your head.

  • i like the head-butt

  • Damn good Kata though...

  • good but why did he not finish the bow properly before backing off? shame..

  • because he lost his balance during the kata at 1:09 so i guess he must have thought he lost so there was no piont although he shouldn't think like that

  • oh yes.. i noted that. i agree with you, should be mentally strong from start to finish.. i always think the first bow and the last bow are the most important part of any kata.
