My only problem with this little series of videos is that a Bamix is indeed an amazing piece of equipment, but it also costs a LOT. It's well worth it for a professional kitchen, but for the everyday kitchen, a 100 or so dollar version would be more than adequate.
It's like trying to convince everybody they should buy a Ferrari instead of a typical Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc...
I LOVE my bamix!! This is obviously advertising but the video clearly states that its an instructional video at the top!! lol The haters need to look at the labels put on videos before they start saying stuff about how it seems like advertising. Of course it is and thats exactly what the label says. Ive watched so many of Hells kitchens series and Gordon dosent have them in the kitchen. Im not niave enough to assume that he would.
I'm originally from Germany and the Zauberstab (that's how it's sold in Germany) is very popular there. It doesn't brake like the crap you get here in North America. I bought a 20 buck one and it's useless. The drive shaft was sealed with a hard plastic cover that cracked after using the blender for a couple of times! Then you have all the mess in the lower part of the blender you can remove from the motor. The more expensive ones are not much different. The Bamix is ONE piece. It lasts forever!
@22j77 As was pointed out by dspen787, we can get the Bamix, and the "crap" that "brake[s]" "like [we] get here in North America" is made in China--it's not homegrown and I'm going to guess that it's available in Germany as well, especially since firms like Zyliss aren't making much of anything in Switzerland anymore. And if you were naive enough to spend $20 on a blender, you really deserve what you got.
@HotVoodooWitch I didn't expect much from the 20 buck blender. It broke when I blended soup! Come on!
The Bamix you can torture and abuse with frozen fruits and whatever the motor can handle.
I just hate the fact that crap is being produced that's not worth the packaging it comes in! What a waste! You do get crap like that in Germany, too. But at least you have a huge choice of well made stuff like the Bamix.
@22j77 I reiterate: anyone who spends $20 on a blender deserves what they get (I mean, come on--I'm surprised it didn't run on batteries) and I'm already aware of the virtues of the Bamix. I'm a bit puzzled, though, as to why an obvious connoisseur of quality housewares (based on exposure to huge quantity of well made [sic] stuff in Germany) and who already seems to own a Bamix is dropping $20 on what's obviously a piece of solid nitrogenous waste and then blaming North America.
@HotVoodooWitch I knew the Bamix from home but I couldn't find it in Canada. When I saw it on the shopping channel I ordered it.
I just say that you don't need a specialty store in Germany to get the Bamix. Blending up cooked veggies? I didn't expect that I need a good blender for THAT!
@22j77 There's ONE distributor for Bamix in North America (based in Canada, I might add), plus a few retailers (e.g. Williams-Sonoma) have permission to sell one or two models, not the full line. Don't blame North America for that--for whatever reason, that's the way Bamix chooses to do business here and it's of course their right to do so.
This is the best stick blender around. I have two in my home: The deluxe in Red and the Gastro. Both get more use than any other items in my home including my power blender and food processor. The only item that gets used more in my dehydrator, and I use my bamix to process food that goes into my dehydrator!
The bamix is a nice tool, but I could blend that amount in my morter and pestle just as fast and have more control over the coarseness. And grinding for espresso with a blade grinder? lol.
Hahaha as far as being able to do this quicker in a mortar and pestle you must be smoking something. Cant be done. As far as the espresso; yes you can but it must be held at an angle like he does or it cakes to the bottom. Same with a coffee grinder but less equipment to use.
kinda looks like he was just using it for the first time

Maybe try before you judge?
These machines are used in top standard kitchens. I've used one, domestically, and professionally, and they do live up to the hype.

nothing against bamix, would've said the same about any kitchen applience he promoted, it's just the lame way of advertising
