Actually the men are sending messages because they can't really say what they really mean just as in the old slavery days. Songs were sung to send messages
Frederick Douglass said in his first book that slaves never sang when they were happy. These black men weren't slaves, but they worked like slaves. Maybe they deserved to be in prison, maybe they were innocent. I don't know, but regardless, the sound you hear is raw pain and emotion. Cries to God for mercy and hope for a better day. This is what you hear and more importantly feel in our Spirituals ( Slave songs) and Traditional Church music.
u know what annoys me? people claiming that it's pain that birthed this music...this music runs in their veins....africans sing...sing when they're happy sad working...this comes from thousands of years of tradition
the voices are pure and soulful because we put our heart into our voices simple as that.
Something primal, wailing, crushed blues...thought it might be a Gandy Dancing song, or rock breaking...here it is.
We're gonna make a dance about the new Depression we're in...Ladies in business suits leaping around a pile of their possessions with railroad hammers, dancing with ghost of the 1st Great Depression....
The woman in these pictures are gorgeouse. Now I know where I get my good looks from.. hee hee. The songs are amazing and haunting. Thank you for posting them. I will share this with my childfren.
These voices are so haunting...it's like you feel them after all this time. Literally see them in those fields! I feel like taking a sip of gin..and I hate gin! love this sound!!!
I wish Euro Americans would honour the African women who tended the babies, fed them, worried when they were sick, loved them, cuddled them, taught them to walk, fretted when they were unhappy...beautiful Affrican women full of warmth and strength,
@mrman6511 i think its cuz we were all born nude, and when we die the worms gonna eat our nude bodies and if it affects your moral sense to have to ask what the fuck its really you who has got the problem. i caught my grandmother and her friends all sitting round this video masturbating their brains out, then we all went outside and sacrificed two goats to hecate. thats why, i reckon.
Répondre à cette vidéo... its all aboiut your morals and how they warp humanity with their shames and guilts you try to put upon others. my grandmother and her circle of friends were all masturbating like cr5azy to this video, and then when all went outside and sacrificed two goats to hecate and coyote,
@Dannyboy855 hehhehehe almost yes! This music led to blues which spawned almost every music sort alive today :) ever seen Caddilac Records? I can recommend it :) one of my favs! :D
When I first heard this type of musice I was a mother less child, stronger than any man and determind, skilled, and well taught inmany arts: alost soul and very loney. This musice saved my soul and hepled restore my sprit. Know an older sprit it will help me hepl my children understand how to over come: to live sain in an insain world for the 1 true GOD. Thank You
@brianbkstrong im not being racist... im just being factual... i find it funny that you say one true god when as a so the government forces the name upon us "african American" you were forced to learn about these things by the white slave masters who oppressed you so >_> technically your our god is suposed to be a bunch of gods... *shrugs* but im religion neutral so who am i kidding
no no this is proof that the real isnt gone away it's just veiled lets us practice these songs for the day when we sing together again.... you see one person alone cannot bring forth this sort of energy...that is the magic of the voices in accord.. a day existed when we were more united and our struggles were not disguised.. dont you dare loss hope we need eachother more now then we ever have...you see we can all purchase our very own nooses nowadays
When I was a kid, we had a history of African American Music LP with "Black Woman" on it. I have been looking for it every since. Thank You for posting. I do not know why it made such an impression on me. Perhaps it was the fact that it was so soulful but also so haunting at the same time.
