Really wanna make it impressive? Add some interactive lighting (yeah I know, kind of hard but not impossible) and create a subtraction mask in AE so the particle effects go BEHIND the player when he's in front of it. I see a lot of instances where it simply looks too overlayed.
It was done with particle illusion, to get video all u do is click on the layer thing on the side (its gray)and find video u have. The masking was good!

Anyways, to answer your questions, I DID use Particle Illusion for creating the flames and sparks etc but After Effects was used to track the ball in the different clips then that tracking data was brought into PI. Glad you like it, I'll do another one sometime soon...
