I've probably met more "famous" people than most, but sitting down with Hunter for a few drinks and talking politics is stil one of the highlights of my life. It always saddens me that people get caught up in the drug aspect of his life never realizing it was - for him at least - a politicaly reactionary thing. That the even Fear & Loathing was a political diatribe. The man loved politics, he was goddamned brilliant in writing about it. There are few writers who are as incisive and honest as he.
Gonzo will never die as long as there are people like us that remember this great man through his amazing books. "Myths and legends die hard in America. We love them for the extra dimension they provide, the illusion of near-infinite possibility to erase the narrow confines of most men's reality. Weird heroes and mould-breaking champions exist as living proof to those who need it that the tyranny of 'the rat race' is not yet final." -HST
Does anyone know the name of this song! Im afraid the tribute has stolen the meaning of the song, everytime I hear it I`ll think of Hunter so I`d like to get it if anyone knows who it is,cheers!
To understand how Hunter died, you must first have to understand how he lived. He always lived outside of the lines printed on the page, and was always in control. At times this may have proven too difficult to digest for some, but his life was his to live. Through is unique outlook on the changing world, he taught us many great things. And when the future seemed too bleak and unbearable, he was always there to make us laugh. Thanks for the memories Hunter, you will never be forgotten.
Im sorry im not trying to be offensive, i just dont know who "hunter thompson " is im not from the states, can someone give me some insight or care to comment and let me know who he was? Seems pretty interesting, I saw something with him and hells angels but i fully did not understand it because it was only a 2 minute video.
@bryz2034 Hunter S. Thompson, in short, is one of the greatest modren american journalist who invented Gonzo Jounalism; free flowing writing with very little editing and placing one'self in the middle of the action, even though they were possibly miles away (it also consist of taking moments the actual event that you were in and exagerating it)
A Mutant by his own admission, a strange criminal according to some, and an outstanding tribute to the twisted annals of journalism and American politics that somehow bleed into folklore and freaks who become legends. The going is certainly getting weird these days, Hunter. I'm trying to turn pro.
I think the world is at a nice place. we dont need any bigger weapons or vehicles, the ones we have wrk fine. lets all just sit around and use drugs.
a true original I want some blow just thinkin about him..........R.I.P. His last wife said his "perfect spread in the morning" was a huge breakfast with grapefruit and other things, and a glass of oj, and a glass of Chivas, with the bottle beside it SOUNDS NICE
My highest respects to The Gonzo Man ! You did not influence just one nation! But people all over the world! Love you and Miss you for giving us what you did. Hope our channels cross some time in some space.
I spent the 70's and the first half of the 80's on a Fear and Loathing binge. What a great fucking time. Thank you for the spirit and the influence, Hunter. See you on the other side. Please say hey to Jerry Garcia for me. I miss him, too.
"No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun — for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax — This won't hurt."

You're both right. Gonzo is a style of writing and Dr. Gonzo is a character HST used in Fear and Loathing in LV to replace his own name to make the book look like a Fiction (legal reasons)
Nothing is ever cured, Matt. Simply because a pill exists does not mean that it fixes someone's problems. Thompson had sciatica, a bad hip/leg, combined with his age and the demands of his stardom. He couldn't keep up with his own life anymore, so he called the race. Prozac would not have helped, just like anti-depressants don't cure the vast majority of American citizens who are "depressed."
Yeah I'm sure they'd call me crazy and give me prozac too but i'll never go to a fucking doctor that's gonna try to make me a statistic. Long live gonzo.
""I am always bitchy. No fun for anyone." That's called clinical depression, cured in 85% of cases with about $150 in generic Prozac and six weeks."
matt605 . . are you ok ? Do you have any idea who HST was, have you ever read one of his books.. you don't know shit about him. fuck your prozac, this wasn't depression, this was a way of life, that you will never understand.
Why do we need to "cure" personality's? A few bitter cynical people are good for the world. It will be very unfortunate if we don't have any more Hunter S. Thompaons cus they all get "cured" when they are 15 by jackasses like you. There are already plenty of drones in the hive, leave the rest of us the fuck alone.
Man what a dude, fuck..He was so goddamn inspiring. I am going to go get gonzo drunk right now. He makes me feel alive and right. He moves me man. Me and JB went to Vegas one drunk March morning after watching fear and loathing, the drunk wore off on the plane but we still had a great fucking time. And crabstick keep on keeping on.
That was an incredible and real nice tribute to the finest and most challenging writer of our lifetime. What song is that playing? It sort of sounded like Joe Strummer (the Clash). Great job...Grazie...Flo
But, Jesus, it would be a wonderful way to go out... and if I do it you bastards are going to owe me a king-hell forty gun salutr (that word is 'salute', goddamnit - and I guess I can't work this elegant typewriter as well as I thought I could)... But you know I could, if I had just a little more time.
wonderful, what more can be said. When you admire someone as much as we all did, its like loosin your buddy down the street. Thanks for puttin this togather man.
I've watched this a few times and it sure gets me crying...the world needs more people like him in it. Thanks for putting this together, it's really sweet and touching.
Calling all gonzo fans or music fans in general...Who sings this song ? i need to know. please reply to this message board so I can all the other fans can know as well. Thanks !...stay weird...(for hunter)
Although I didn't necessarily agree w/ HST on a lot of stuff, you can't help but be drawn into his charm and wit. Such an interesting individual. I would have loved to just kick back w/ him...set off some bombs...shoot some crap...drink...laugh at all the hilarious stuff he said. RIP

Right?

Too soon his wisdom was taken from us. Yet I trust his judgment. Long live the spirit of Gonzo.

RIP
