  • studpuppy69 -- WHAT kind of CAT engines do you drive ,

I have went 15.000 Miles with 1 gallon added to the original OIL change ,

C-15 Acert year 2005 650.000 Miles on it

CAT and Cummins are the best heavy truck engines MONEY CAN BUY

  • man i love the sound of cat engines. way way to bad they dont make the over the highway engines anymore

  • does anyone know how much psi the turbos put out in these big rigs?

  • If I were to guess, probably 30 pounds of Boost.

  • I'm seeing just under 50 psi with that same motor, I've only been in the truck for 2 weeks so I'm not sure if thats normal or not.....anybody else ??

  • sucks they dont make over the highway truck engines

  • but ill try a big cummins isx if it gives me the horses like a cat the pull like a cat and has the torque like a cat . and sounds like a cat with 6 inch straight stacks ...hmmmm a possibility

  • All the Cummin's I've driven were a disapointment. The N14 though, its a mean sounding motor, weak jakes, weak power, but good fuel economy. When they get older they start eating coolant and oil.

  • @studpuppy69 haha you just described a CAT :p im sorry to say but the cummins n-14 and big cams ive driven have never failed. always got good mileage too. maybe it was the way you were driving it... probobly you were driving it the wrong way. im just saying its few of the people who say cummins are bad engines cause they dont know how to drive them :P

  • @eltrokeromexicano I used to work at Ryder, this is a common problem. CAT's are oil burners, it wasn't uncommon to put 3 gallons of oil in on fill up on a C6 CAT, or, a worn out C15 to put in 4-5 gallons, I had one Series 60 we put in 25-30 quarts of oil, the man carried oil jugs on the truck something was seriously wrong with that motor.

Other than that, Series 60 really had no problem using oil. Cummin's was better. CAT was the worst.

  • i will miss the c-16 cat .but it will not be forgotten .i can still get one but remanufactured .i dont believe in global warming .i believe in the big cats pulling heavy equipment blowing little smoke loud 6 inch straight stacks and a bunch of chicken lights and lots of chrome...yep yep

  • @jmagic32971 Amen to that bro... xD

  • personally i have always peferd my caterpillar engine but the new cummins has the horses and it sound like a v8 and another big bonus is that it is quiet and by the way the 3406c was a crap motor the b and the e were the best ones and fellers THE 3406E IS NOT THE SAME AS A C-15 THEY HAVE A DIFFERNT BLOCK AND EVERY THING

  • detroits are goood on fuel wen u r pullin 1 trailer but wen u put 2 or 3 trillers behind them they die flat in the ass the new cummins signature puts out 2250 pounds of talk while the c-15 puts out 1850 pounds of talk so the c-16 and the new cummins are at equal abillity now

  • yes but as of this year you can no longer get a cat in a on highway truck

  • i got a 90 kw with a 1693 cat in it

  • wow seriously?

  • Is this CAT engine electronically controlled?

  • the 3406C and Up were Eletronic. For the C models, some were eletronic and some werent. but on those u were able to make them mechanical again.

  • The 3406B engines were either electronically controlled or full mechanical as well.

The Bs used the PEEC setup. The C might as well, just never seen one in person.

The PEEC still utilizes a in-line fuel injection pump. Computer controls the rack and timing advance. Mechanical governor.

The 3406E and C15s use unit injectors.

  • Yes, and it looks to be a 5EK ser#.

  • i prefer cummins over cat jmo

    cat have more power though

  • I prefer CAT over anything, 'cept maybe yanmar for small stuff

  • I pefer the detroit 60 series. There easy on fuel. :]

  • A C15 and ISX have a lot of pulling power. The ISX fueling is a LOT more aggressive than a C15. The ISX will out run past a Cat rowing through the gears.

Once up and pulling, they are pretty well matched.

  • Get 5.5-5.9mpg with mine ('02 pre-ACERT) OTR. 4.5-5mpg locally (too much idle time)

  • Nice C15. The C15 is a 3406 cat pretty much. But changed a little. The C15s Twin turbos they have on some newer trucks get terrible fuel milage. My dads Big cam 3 cummins got around 6. While a friend of my dads W900 with a twin turbo C15 got around 4 - 4.5 lol.

  • I run a C15 that is 525hp w/ 1850tq. :D
