The Benny Hill show is damn funny, but the jokes are all sexual innuendo and are usually mocking, like the way he taps the old man on the head - funny but any clever dick can come up with these sort of jokes. What makes the Pythons great is that the theme of their sketches, are totally absurd and not many people can think such things up. Old ladies ganging up on young men or the self defense sketch are testament to this fact.

Actually, what happened was that he was conducting a different experiment but accidently left one of the petri dishes in the wrong conditions and mould grew on it. He thought that the experiment was ruined but he realized the mould had killed off the bacteria. Fascinating, isn't it?
