this is beyond horrible. I didn't think there was anything that could make me hate shrinks more. Let's try not to blame the parents because shrinks love to brainwash them, too! They can't really abuse the child without brainwashing the parent into accepting it. I've encountered many quack therapists in my career. The "clients" are usually parents who do not want to put in the hard work needed to raise children. RAD is a very serious condition. HOLDING therapy is one of the ONLY ways to allow children with RAD to deal with there anger. without the anger being let out during these sessions, children with RAD can and HAVE killed in the most brutal ways you can imagine! there is nothing wrong with either of these forms of therapy as long as the person in charge knows what they are doing.

@TheGroundedAviator yes, the key point, to me, is that a child shouldn't be FORCED to take ANY substance or COERCED to undergo ANY 'therapy'! these "diseases" (behavior really!) have more to do with an adult's reaction to a child's behavior, and NOT how the child actually feels. the 'diagnoses': ADD, ADHD, Bi-Polar, RAD, etc. in children SO young are merely terms adults use to explain a child's, oft times normal, sometimes frustrating behavior, in order to ease their own minds, NOT the child's.
@bunkopaniczny Yeah the behaviors are just a confused reaction too some stimuli. I'd say the best way is too talk calmly too them and say why they are with another adult. Too me 'therapy' should be subtle and almost as if it's everyday life.
There is some medical links with ADHA and the like, nerological inbalences in the brain, but a two year-old is not the type one can diongnosed as they can't talk too you in a logical manner. I did have some mild meds for it but only mild.

I have NO issue with adults taking meds at all! But children, usually, are FORCED into this 'choice', as most 'childhood behavioral issues' are coercion from adult to child; and that's SICK, to me!

As a kid I had some VERY mild meds as a test and it didn't chainge my character one bit but DID help me stay calm, but I wasn't rushed THEY really looked into it and I was about 8. I'd NEVER give a baby meds. Ever read a book called Adopting the Hurt Child and Parenting the Hurt Child?

RAD is NOT a "basically non existant (sic) condition." It is very real and has a very defined set of behaviors. I know, because five years ago we became foster parents to a child with the condition (and subsequently adopted her.) I understand Jeane Newmaker's desperation and her willingness to try anything. And after all, these "therapists" were recommended by her licensed psychologist.
@DellaSinoui RAD is very commonly found among foster children. And while I have no doubt that the birth mother grieves the loss of her daughter, it was her neglect of the child that caused the disorder. Children are not removed from their homes lightly and the termination of parental rights is a very arduous process. It doesn't happen unless there is very strong evidence that the parents have abused/neglected the child and either have made no effort to change or are incapable of changing.
@DellaSinoui Medication can be very helpful. I resisted medicating our daughter for 4 1/2 years precisely because I didn't want to turn her into a "zombie." Closely monitored medication can make a real difference and the results are a relief to both the parents and the child.
I understand the concept behind the treatment, but on the other hand how in the world would that make you trust someone? If I was adopted and the first thing my "mother" did was force herself on me, and then wrap me up in a blanket and suffocate me and I survived, I might pretend to love her out of pure fear, but I can't imagine a child becoming docile AND loving because of that. I was with you up until your diatribe at the end. Please educate yourself before condemning child psychology as an entire field. For example, Reactive Attachment Disorder has nothing to do with refusal to bond with a new caregiver. Difficulty bonding is considered a cause of the actual disorder, which involves inappropriate responses to social interaction. That being said, if you want to condemn holding therapy in particular, I'm right with you-it's a dangerous and unsupported method.

The adopted mom was a nurse how are you not going to know that placing pillows on a child after the child has been wrapped up in a blanket, and then sitting on it is not going to smother the child to death. How could anyone think up this "therapy" and consider it therapy? Why would anyone in their right mind think this kind of treatment would ever be appropriate for any use except pure torture? RAD is a very serious condition. HOLDING therapy is one of the ONLY ways to allow children with RAD to deal with there anger. without the anger being let out during these sessions, children with RAD can and HAVE killed in the most brutal ways you can imagine! there is nothing wrong with either of these forms of therapy as long as the person in charge knows what they are doing.

@TheGroundedAviator yes, the key point, to me, is that a child shouldn't be FORCED to take ANY substance or COERCED to undergo ANY 'therapy'! these "diseases" (behavior really!) have more to do with an adult's reaction to a child's behavior, and NOT how the child actually feels. the 'diagnoses': ADD, ADHD, Bi-Polar, RAD, etc. in children SO young are merely terms adults use to explain a child's, oft times normal, sometimes frustrating behavior, in order to ease their own minds, NOT the child's.

There is some medical links with ADHA and the like, nerological inbalences in the brain, but a two year-old is not the type one can diongnosed as they can't talk too you in a logical manner. I did have some mild meds for it but only mild.

I have NO issue with adults taking meds at all! But children, usually, are FORCED into this 'choice', as most 'childhood behavioral issues' are coercion from adult to child; and that's SICK, to me!

I know, because five years ago we became foster parents to a child with the condition (and subsequently adopted her.) I understand Jeane Newmaker's desperation and her willingness to try anything. And while I have no doubt that the birth mother grieves the loss of her daughter, it was her neglect of the child that caused the disorder. Children are not removed from their homes lightly and the termination of parental rights is a very arduous process. It doesn't happen unless there is very strong evidence that the parents have abused/neglected the child and either have made no effort to change or are incapable of changing.

I understand the concept behind the treatment, but on the other hand how in the world would that make you trust someone? If I was adopted and the first thing my "mother" did was force herself on me, and then wrap me up in a blanket and suffocate me and I survived, I might pretend to love her out of pure fear, but I can't imagine a child becoming docile AND loving because of that. I was with you up until your diatribe at the end. Please educate yourself before condemning child psychology as an entire field. For example, Reactive Attachment Disorder has nothing to do with refusal to bond with a new caregiver. Difficulty bonding is considered a cause of the actual disorder, which involves inappropriate responses to social interaction. That being said, if you want to condemn holding therapy in particular, I'm right with you-it's a dangerous and unsupported method.

The adopted mom was a nurse how are you not going to know that placing pillows on a child after the child has been wrapped up in a blanket, and then sitting on it is not going to smother the child to death. There is no excuse she is as guilty as the rest of them. She heard all of what was being done, and said and did nothing no wounder why Candace didn't like her she saw her true colors. They all should be rotting in prison & never let out. Sickening concept of treatment. Who has the right to say how a child bonds with one adult or another? Some are just quiet & introverted. That may be their norm. And... some children have difficulty concentrating. If their academic achievement is not affected severely,the medications used to help them focus may have lifelong side affects as adults.Research & chose all sources of therapy (including medications) wisely. Have patience & strength.

If I were that poor girl I wouldn't want to bond with that abomination of a woman, I feel so sorry for the mother, and she was beautiful...that little girl remembers her mom like that, not some weird lady who looks like she cut her hair herself and never exercised a day in her life. This story is so sad I can't even cry.. my emotions are so overloaded . This is by far the most disturbing thing I've ever found on Youtube. I wish there was something I could have done, I wish I could have helped :(

How could anyone think up this "therapy" and consider it therapy? Why would anyone in their right mind think this kind of treatment would ever be appropriate for any use except pure torture? These women should have received the death sentence for killing an innocent child like that. Just look at the pictures, you can see the evil in them in one glance. I cannot believe anyone would allow this, ever. Even done "properly". This is absolutely absurd, and the first time I've heard of this practice.

However, one has to have a sick and twisted mind to allow that kind of procedure on any child, let alone one that they themselves did not conceive. I'm sure the mother was aware of what was going to take place, and should have rationalized the dangers and inhumanities of what was going to happen. Did you see the size of that one lady? How could one expect anyone like 10 times lighter to escape the pressure put on them while also trapped?

The picture of the real mother and that poor girl is just heart-wrenching after reading this story. Considering how the new mommy responded to what was being done to her I can see why Candace didn't want to bond with her. You can't buy love by showing kids with gifts the biggest gift of all is love, and Candace was not getting that. Anyone who subjects a kid to this kind of therapy needs to not have kids in the first place.

There was no evidence she even had a heart condition. They probably didn't want people to know so that is why she was cremated. I find it hard to believe the family would want to cremate her. I used to be a foster kid myself I didn't feel I was apart of the family because a knew the people were not my family. Imagine being taken from your home, and brought into a home of a stranger. It is no different than kidnapping unless the children were really being abused.

Kids get older sex should be for the person they marry. To many people think that just because a kid shows them affection they want that person sexually, and that is not what is going on kids want to be loved. This is video couldn't be anymore true. This is horrible and disgusting. I think anybody who does this to a child deserves the same. If I was ever to see any of them I would not be able to restrain myself. The last part of this video is my favorite. "Drug free..." Yes. I couldn't have said it any better. Medicating your child for behaving, well like a child, is absolute bullshit. I will never medicate my children, or myself. I will deal with my "depression" the old fashion way. Drug free.

And my mother is a speech therapist, there's also occupational and physical not just psychological, but I'm sure you already knew that :) ...I agree that some people can let it go to their head and got too far :(
