  • Regardless of the stupid scare tactics, the dam cannot be rebuilt on the same site for the very reason that caused it to fail in the first place. The rock under that side of the canyon is severely fractured and will not support either a concrete or earth fill dam. The water will simply go around and under that side of the dam and eventually undermine the structure. There may be another site, either upstream or downstream where the foundation rock is suitable, but a Geologist needs to find it.

  • it needs to be rebuilt. perfect canyon for hydroelectric and irrigation. it should not be a playground for a few wealthy eccentrics running rafting tours and hollywood weirdos living in driggs.ID no cement dam has ever collapsed in the usa.

    water rates and hydro electricity would pay for the dam in no time.

    the dam would only change a few miles of the canyon upstream. these throwbacks always use hysterics to prevent progress.
