I believe the Boss is saying at our best Americans do not abandon one another; it is not every one for him or herself; Wherever this Flag is flown, we take care of our own and leave no one behind. Let Americans be Americans again!
People honestly think this isn't anything other than a progressive song? He's not telling the government to leave the people alone he's chastising the government for not doing enough.
Springsteen may be a Democrat but this song is not in support of the GOP or the Democrats. I think it is a cry out for the values that our country was built on and has long ago forgotten. "Where's the Promise from sea to shining sea?" says it all.
You should be (but are not) able to understand that what was said referred to the singer ... not the song. Did you imply that you understood the song?
Hey is this a new way to introduce a new clip/song? No longer on a clip/pop show on telly? Call me oldfashioned. Never watch pop programms anyway.. Popprograms do they still exsist? Or is it channels now these days? *confused viewer* Good song *thumbs up*
Bruce Springsteen is American, probably born on the 4th of July so that's why he IS Biased Bruce. You take care of your own. We are taking care of a world you have no idea exists. You're STILL playing music that I like to hear, but not listen to.
Can not wait to hear this at hard rock calling. Already listened to it several times and am not bored of it at all! It's different, but there are hints of Magic and Working on a Dream here. Love it.
I'm sure he will offer this to Obama for his campaign and to boost album sales. Lyrically, very naive and idealistic. look around. Do you really want to be in this "all together" with the people you see and meet? should have called "Some of us take care of the rest of us"....
As I just said to my fellow Bruce fans on email "Definitely a Music Video type song. If they invest in a really good video, this song could be big... Bruce playing in all different parts of the USA - Scenery... I would have him the Utah Desert, down highway 9... All the iconic places from his songs... The fans would know where those places are... but it would also follow the meaning of the song... I wish I could direct this video, I can see it in my head."
I believe he sings "There ain’t no help; the cavalry stayed home" and not "We yelled "help" but the cavalry stayed home".
Also, "Where's the love that has not forsaken me" might be "Where's the love that has not forsaken me".
I truly appreciate your transcribing the lyrics as well as uploading the song, so please don't take offence at the suggestions I'm making. Was just trying to chip in and help.
actually... i can see it as a song for the GOP nominee... lol. as much as Bruce is a lefty... it's a song that suits conservative ideals... libs rely on government, not each other.
I love it! I can see it opening or closing a show. Great. Also, I know The Big Man was not officially a part of this one, but I swear I can hear his sax wailing away at the end of this anthem. Thank you again Bruce.
Bruce takes care of his own by providing jobs for thousands of people in the music industry and stadiums. Tired of people knocking him because he is rich. His music has always had a special place in my heart and when you put him down you put me down. Bruce starved for years before he made money doing this. And during those times he sang about the less fortunate because he understood them. Once he made it why would he change his value system. Thanks Bruce for making the music.
Awesome new song! Can't wait to hear the rest of the album and the tour! Sounds like we could have a winner here from Bruce! Working on a Dream wasn't that great, this already sounds awesome and powerful. Sounds like a campaign song for the GOP nominee to go up agianst Obama. Love the song! BRING ON THE US TOUR!
@buckeyesrule10 Are you kidding me? A anthem for the GOP? Bruce supported Obama, Kerry and is a Democrat. This is the guy who told Reagan to F off and not use Born In The USA. Republicans rip him apart and call anti-American. Bruce will NEVER be for the GOP. If anything, this is a song against the GOP...who doesn't take care of their own. Go read the lyrics. Especially the line about the Superdome and calling for help. Sounds more like a shot at Bush and how Katrina was handled.
@JEH78 Cant you americans understand that there's no difference between clinton, obama and bush? they are all attached to the same strings. Obama expanded the wars on middle east, attacked libya without reason and now expanded the patriot act passing the NDAA that takes away your constitutional rights (US government now have the right to detain, torture, kill american citizens).
All GOP candidates are in the same mafia-except ron paul that voted against NDAA and wanna end the wars.
@JEH78 It's Born in the USA all over again, isn't it? They JUST Don't Get It. This is so NOT GOP. Ah well... Thank you for taking the words right out of my mouth!
@noisyrag2 Typical Democrat taking a wonderful description like "all American" and assuming that the guy was a republican. just cause someone has a strong stance on American Exceptionalism does not mean he is a conservative. for the record I'm a liberal 9just like Bruce) but that does not mean I don't think USA is number one. show a little patriotism!!!
@weadon44 Of course that guy is a republican. He thinks this song would be a great song for a GOP nominee going up against president Obama. What democrat would think that?
@michellearchibald You are funny. My father is a big fan, and i've been to since i came to this world, but never liked Bruce's hop hop la la la side, i always expect from him to create music that spawns a movie drama visuals in a listeners mind.
Bruce Springsteen is the greatest human to ever live. Worship him, or die an empty, meaningless, sterile death.

I've heard several songs from the new album, Wrecking Ball. I'm a 35 year fan and a 23 time concert veteran.
I thought Working on a Dream was the worst album Bruce ever made.
Sorry to say that Wrecking Ball is absolutely HORRID!
Get Well Soon Bruce!

@supergolfdude Nah. Wrong. Even Bruce's worst album is spun musical gold.

Have to give Springsteen credit: at least he's stepping up, and coming out in support. Most other bands seem scared to death.
We do a cover of the fist-shaking 60s protest / garage rock anthem “NOTHING CAN CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME”.
