It s amusing how British humour while criticising the queen may be part of its strength. I am not - in any way - minimising the remarkable work of Fry and Laury. But if I may take the example of Mr jacques Chirac in France and the way he was considered by the "Guignols de l'info" (a famous news muppet show there) we might wonder to what extend criticism could be only a threat. Of course we must bear in mind that this kind of high spoted humour starts to be from another age. What do you think?
I was making a coffee in the office today and a smile spread across my face and I couldn't quite stifle a giggle. A colleague noticed and asked why on earth I just started smiling for no reason. I muttered "oh nothing, nothing. Just thinking about something I saw on telly." and I scuttled off rather embarrassed. I didn't feel I could tell my female colleague of advancing years that the real reason was beacuse I was thinking of Fry saying "...thicken and engorge with mounting excitement." !!
haha I love how nerdy Hugh has "never actually owned a piano" whilst normal Hugh is one of the most soulful and talented pianists I have ever had the good fortune of hearing.
Plus I just love it when these two act like idiots!! ( referring to Hugh's cop character) they're extremely well at it, which is remarkable for such intelligent men!!
Ahhh... the Brits... Trapped in their own imperial history. They can't develop a progressive nationalism like the French, so they have to nervously make fun of themselves like this.
Thank God we Irish don't have any political conflicts with _our_ nationalisms....
Stephen Fry is awesome when he's being dirty! BTW I love Hugh's nerd character that I have affectionately titled "Generic Nerd No. 47". I love that stupid cop too.
Is it possible that his appearance reminds me of the current day James May?

I love that he adds the extraneous "you" - it puts in a little pause between the joke and the "real" punchline.

Do you know an awful lot of imperial soldiers were Irish? And have you forgotten that Ireland was part of Britain back then?

No conflicts with your nationalisms? The Irish? Are you kidding me? At least the British aren't engaged in a civil 'war'.

you are a great example of somebody with absolutely no sense of humour.
no offense, mate but when people over-analyze comedy trying to sound clever they usually end up just sounding like idiots (and you're one of them).
